Yes, this is the official Sony controller for PS3. I had a bit of trouble finding a new one recently as well, as due to the age of the PS3, some stores like GameStop have stopped selling them new. Best Buy still sells them new however, so I would get one while you can. Nothing is worse than having to buy an old, sticky used controller, believe me.

A:

No the Sony DualShock 3 wireless controller does not come with a USB cable to charge it. It is intended to be charged with the USB charge cable that comes with the PS3. I however do not own a PS3 and bought the controller to use with my MacBook Pro wirelessly via bluetooth so I had to buy a USB cable separetly in order to charge it.

As far as I know the standard colors are black, white, red, and blue. They had silver for awhile, which is my favorite. But I think they've discontinued it. The same for gold. I think you still can get it in camouflage also.

Not without a bunch of tweaking that is of expert level computer manipulation. The Xbox 360 controller was the standard of PC gaming before this latest generation of console.

No, ps3 controllers use Bluetooth wireless built into system and controllers. Ps2 doesn't support Bluetooth but you can still find wireless controller kits for ps2. They work ok

No- the battery is internal. You just have to charge it, like you would a phone. The console comes with a cable that connects it to the controller for charging, but there are also many products made just for charging your controllers. Some are quite reasonably priced.

I think the first time to fully charge it takes overnight. After that I keep one controller plugged in while I play using a second controller. Then I switch them around the next time I play. That way I never run out of battery life.

usually my controller is charged fully after abut 30 minutes and last very long, lucky for us sony was smart enough to put rechargeable batteries in all of its controllers so we dont have to waste our money on batteries like xbox users do
