A:
We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue with your television's picture turning black.
There are two suggestions that we might suggest checking first that might help.
1. Change out your cable. Sometimes, HDCP (High Def Copy Protection) technology will detect that the cable/sat box, or Blu-Ray player (or any device) is not an authorized device. When that happens, the video will be disabled and only the audio will be sent. If your cable is faulty, this can happen, and a simple replacement may fix the problem.
2. In other rare instances, the device that you use when the picture turns black may need an update. If it's a Blu-Ray player, cable or satellite box, often times updates are available that will fix this issue. Most Blu-Ray players will allow you to update, and cable/satellite boxes can be updated while you're on the phone with most customer service representatives with your service provider.
But if the picture is going out, and only audio is heard, that means that the HDCP handshake isn't connecting, and it's most likely a cable issue. The fact that the picture comes back when you cycle the power suggests that the handshake is made, but then is lost.
