Thank you for your question. The CineMate Series II offers a digital optical input, in addition to the standard analog input also found on the CineMate Series I system. There are two reasons this is advantageous: 1) better compatibility with newer TVs, and 2) more detailed sound from any content encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1. The CineMate Series I only offers the analog input and does not have a bass knob. As such, there is no way to adjust bass compensation on the CineMate Series I. Besides these differences, the two systems are essentially the same. Please be aware we offer two versions of the newer CineMate, one is the Series II and the other is the GS Series II. These are the same except for the fact that the Series II comes with a smaller 4 button remote and the GS Series II has a larger remote that is similar to the one that comes with the original CineMate Series I.
