Amy, Amy, Amy

This is a solid box set of Amy's albums. The only downside to this is that both her Frank and Back to Black albums have amazing double disc expanded editions (Frank especially, trust me it's PERFECT) which are not the ones in this box set. Instead with this box set you only get the standard version of her first two albums. But, given the great price and all it's still a great deal. However, I definitely recommend listening to the expanded versions first before buying this.

Pac's MASTERPIECE
on September 14, 2016

It feels odd to say Tupac is gone, even after all these years. How could someone so substantial to Hip-Hop as him, not be deeply missed. Though, while he is missed, his legacy and impact is ROOTED in the DNA of all that is Hip-Hop. This album showcases that truth abundantly. On 7 Day Theory (aka Makaveli which is also 2Pac's alias for this genius album specifically), Pac came into his THUG LIFE philosophy fully. The honesty, hope, humility, frustration and fire are what makes this his undisputable classic. He gave zero phucks about ruffling feathers or bruising anyone's ego because he wanted to. Tupac knew all too well about the schemes, scams and manipulations taking place across the board. This was his moment to expose it to those who cared enough to receive it. Every song on 7 Day Theory is important. They are also constantly "excerpted" and acknowledged by almost every rapper one can think of, ever since its release. Only the best art will accomplish that much admiration, "creative theft" and respect. There really isn't one song that is better than the other, because the work is immaculate, cohesive and each song practically stands on it's own. So, it's best to just buy it and let it work it's magic. Especially if you consider yourself a student of Hip-Hop...this is where you should start.

Grab a Seat and Take a Slow Sip with Bey!
on August 6, 2016

Verified Purchase:Yes
Not many artists can grab/curate/influence pop culture musically. Especially, when you consider the fact that Beyonce is doing just that with her second (and BEST) visual album. Somehow this woman has perfected a unique method for making an album (visually-speaking) which suits her perfectly and should become her continued approach for each record hereafter (but she has to do something a bit more grand next time around, and if she were to somehow read this...Girl I have some EPIC ideas). King Bey continues her SLAY on the delectable LEMONADE visual album. HBO was the first place to share LEMONADE in its entirety while viewers watched on in anxious awe. This aspect alone showcases Beyonce and her team's collective genius for this beautiful double-tiered love letter of an album (both to the way Black women can uplift one another through being each-other's shoulder/champion also by displaying how art can heal/unite). To captivate the public through the comfort of their living rooms, during HBO's free weekend trial was BEYOND. So, to separate the songs from the visual feels insane. Simply because the both of them flow so magically with one another. Especially, when the poems by the impeccable Warsan Shire are brought into play. Here's the thing... the visual album tells a conceptual story, from top to bottom. But, I will do my best. Bey starts off subtle with: melancholic 'Pray You Catch Me' and summery 'Hold Up'. But, when she digs deep into her Hard-Rock/Soul sensibility (who knew she had that up her sleeve) on 'Don't Hurt Yourself' she steps into her most ferocious territory with that song alone. Then keeps up the momentum with: the brilliant flip-off 'Sorry', swaggering purr '6 Inch', country-rock-soul secular hymnal legend of 'Daddy Lessons' and explosive Kendrick Lamar assisted 'Freedom'. But, for all that fire, she shares something cool and delicate with: the splendid (and 2nd personal fave) 'Love Drought', gut-wrenching 'Sandcastles' and hope-driven 'All Night'. So please watch the DVD portion and then enjoy the CD afterwards because King Bey is offering something truly memorable with this one in particular. I ain't lyin'

More Issues Than Expected...
on August 6, 2016
Posted by: SUGAHOOH22
Verified Purchase:Yes
K. Michelle is a fabulous singer and personality. So when it comes to her music she radiates excellence because she knows who she is and that's why she is so relatable/fun to her fans. However on "More Issues Than Vogue" things sadly hit a musical snag. Don't get me wrong there are some definite BOPS on here: the infectious T-Pain assisted rap-soul 'Mindful', sassy stripclub anthem 'Got Em' Like', unbothered 'Ain't You' and knockin' Yo Gotti and Trina joint 'Rich'. But sadly that's about it. Of course she is also known for more soulful fare like: lead single 'Not A Little Bit', angsty gem 'Nightstand' and southern soul 'These Men'. Yet, the other songs lack the colorful personality and no-fux-given honesty she is adored for. The heart is there still (especially on 'Memphis'), but the genre experimentation on: country&B 'If It Ain't Love', Jason Derulo assisted EDM-ish pop 'Make The Bed' and underwhelming 'All I Got' and 'Time' subdue the album's highlights. Hopefully K's next album will beam with more personality and cohesive quality like her sophomore "Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart?". There are also Best Buy exclusive tracks on "More Issues Than Vogue".

Ms. Tweet Came Back!
on August 6, 2016
Posted by: SUGAHOOH22
Verified Purchase:Yes
Charlene, the third album by Tweet (aka Charlene Keys thus the title) is her most mature LP by far. This album is truly a tamed and soulful slow simmer. She expresses a more old school Soul sound rather than Hip-Hop or modern R&B elements her past releases are peppered with (which to be honest is unfortunate, yet understandable). So, for those expecting a sensuous or experimental set of lyrics/sound like her dazzling debut "Southern Hummingbird" may need to let these songs grow on them. Tweet clearly wasn't looking to appeal to radio (in a good way) one can tell she just wanted to create something she adored through and through. These stand-out tracks accomplish just that, while reminding listeners of why Tweet's voice is so gorgeous: with the sparkly 'Magic', sultry interlude 'All I See is You', undeniable 'Addicted' and earthy throwback 'Got Whatcha Want'. There are also two exclusive tracks ONLY available on the Best Buy version.

This release features all ten episodes from the fourth season of the HBO comedy-drama series Girls. In Season Four, Hannah (Lena Dunham) departs New York City to attend the celebrated Iowa Writers' Workshop to earn her Master's degree. Meanwhile, Marnie (Allison Williams), Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) remain in the Big Apple attempting to sort out their various mid-twenties pitfalls.

Girls Will Be Girls (Part 4) the Story Continues
on July 17, 2016
Posted by: SUGAHOOH22
Verified Purchase:Yes
Hannah and the crew are definitely getting closer to whatever their "it" is in the fourth season. Expect a lot of interesting revelations, connections and relationship evolutions for both the lead and supporting characters. Girls truly is an odd and ridiculous yet honest comedic gem. Also, Best Buy's price match opportunities really do come in handy, because I got a great deal on this when it came out.

Marvin Keeps It Comin' On
on July 17, 2016
Posted by: SUGAHOOH22
Verified Purchase:Yes
Marvin Gaye undoubtedly has one of the most seductive and delicious tones in music. On "Let's Get It On" his voice breeds a carefree level of pleasure's fun and abandon. It's not as poetic as his love/lust manifesto and masterpiece "I Want You". Which in my opinion is the DEFINITIVE chapter (and most indulgent one) in his later "cognac, candles and moonlight" era. Yet this LP has a more wild groove to it (checkout the joy in his voice on 'Come Get to This'). It's like he knew he would whisper his ultimate "come on" with "I Want You". So, when "Let's Get It On" came to him, he wanted to be a bit more straightforward in his lyricism and less "tongue in cheek". It pays off too. This relaxed vibe bubbles over on the title track, 'Keep Gettin' It On' and steamy 'You Sure Love to Ball'. On this re-mastered version of the album, one can hear his "freak-flag" work its vocalized magic in crisp definition. The more subtle tracks like: his dreamy 'If I Should Die Tonight', 'Distant Lover', irresistible 'Please Stay (Once You Go Away)' and most soulful break-up burner 'Just To Keep You Satisfied' explores his tone even further. This album ain't deemed a classic for nothin'.

ANTI is the ANTI-thesis of the Norm from Rih
on February 5, 2016
Posted by: SUGAHOOH22
Verified Purchase:Yes
ANTI IS FINALLY HERE and its...STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS, proving to be worth the wait, and what a wait it was. The road to experiencing ANTI was a LONG and annoying one (did I say long, I meant torturously long). Full of rumored release dates, chilling AntidiaRy video teasers, three random and diverse singles (Four Five Seconds, American Oxygen and Bi+ch Better Have My Money, which unfortunately did not make it on the album) and thirst-worthy studio snippets, which made the road to the album even more twist and turn filled. For awhile, it felt like the album was just a haunting mystery with no happy ending, that teased restless fans. Thankfully, Rih finally ended the wait and surprised everyone by releasing it on January 27th on TIDAL...FOR FREE with a download code for her NAVY, for ANYONE, even the haters. Which only proved how much of a "G" Ms. Fenty truly is (also I must mention that the RIAA certified it platinum!). Other digital retailers (Amazon, Google Music etc.) soon followed and then news of a physical CD release set for today. Now, finally with all that out of the way, lets dig deep into this timeless music and groundbreaking physical album. Rih said she needed to focus on making "timeless...soulful" music this go around that would not feel stale, or distant to who she is now. She did just that and more with this SOLID album that took years to make. ANTI feels like freely travelling through a lush fantasy realm where time is non-existent but FEELING is all that matters and beauty both light and dark is abundant in certain spaces. The album opener 'Consideration' (which features the honeyed vocals of SZA and fiery voiced Rih demanding/questioning why peace seems to escape her/them) sets the perfect tone with it's Alternative/Hip-Hop snap. Then the album moves to a heady and euphoric place of lovelorn coos with 'James Joint' (which needs to be longer, because it feels decadent in every way, with its production reminiscent of something Stevie Wonder would do). On ANTI its clear what Rih had on her mind these past few years of her musical absence: DEEPER artistic/personal exploration and LOVE with all of it's many shades and shapes. On the sweet yet frustrated 'Kiss It Better' she demands her lover to "phuck [his] pride/ just take it on back.../ [asking him] what are you willing to do/ kiss it, kiss it better baby". 'Desperado' finds her staying in a no-strings attached dalliance "[where] there ain't nothin' here for [her] anymore/ but [she] don't wanna be alone". ANTI finds here shifting between three love-related moods: vulnerable ('Work', 'Never Ending', 'Close To You'), feverish ('Yeah I Said It', 'Love On The Brain', 'Higher') and stubborn ('Woo' and 'Needed Me') which in turn showcases her vocally at her MOST UNTAMED and ABSOLUTE BEST, this go around the moods bring out richer "characters" in her voice, and each one is unforgettable. There is also a woozy, free flying cover of Tame Impala's 'New Person, Same Old Mistakes' which only heightens the fantasy aspect of the elegant body of work. The deluxe version has three additional tracks: the sinister and sneering quasi-instrumental 'Goodnight Gotham' which was also used in her Dior campaign Secret Garden, Punk inspired hip-hop/electro warble of 'Pose' and dirty carefree romp '$ex With Me'. Physically the album matches the music by being a TOTAL work of art. The front and back cover collaboration conceived by Roy Nachum and Rihanna has actual braille on both sides and the inside as well (pure genius, peep the written poem hidden on the back of the album's poster included inside that perfectly captures Rih's mindset for this album and those to come after it). As great as many of her albums are (Rated R, Talk That Talk and Unapologetic in particular) this one just feels especially EXCEPTIONAL. In a way ANTI feels like Rihanna's RE-DEBUT to music and I must say I love meeting this new musically fully-realized Rih, cooler and even more relatable.

Fierce is Only the Half of It, Fearless is Whole
on January 16, 2016
Posted by: SUGAHOOH22
Verified Purchase:Yes
Beyoncé is considered a LEGEND for a reason. She beams with talent, focus and drive throughout her entire discography. So it's easy to say "I Am...Sasha Fierce" the deluxe edition is only further proof. "I Am", (the first half of the album) gleams with emotion and some of Beyoncé's MOST beautiful and excellent songs. Also, the first half is dedicated to her more vulnerable side and in my opinion is the better half in comparison to the "Sasha Fierce" side of the album. "I Am" offers gorgeous album highlights like: 'Disappear', 'Smash Into You' and the often unsung tender Rock n Roll dream that is 'That's Why You're Beautiful'. Of course the hits are here: 'If I Were a Boy' and 'Halo' but the deeper cuts from "I Am" are the biggest diamonds to be found. The "Sasha Fierce" portion is the more raucous and wild part of who Beyoncé is. She delivers the fierceness in full throttle on tracks like: 'Video Phone' (this deluxe version includes the Lady Gaga extended cut of this track), 'Radio', 'Ego' and 'Diva'. There's also the unshakeable mega-hit 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)' found on the second half too. The other bonus track found here is the mid-tempo 'Poison'. The only reason this edition of the album doesn't get five stars is because 'Why Don't You Love Me' is NOT on here which is a SHAME.
