an enjoyable romp playing solo, locally, or online

Triforce Heroes is a great game best enjoyed with others, though it may be a surprise to many that the game is even more challenging when completing levels (especially challenge scenarios) on your own.
The hook of the game is simple: play solo or with 3 other people (locally or online; if locally, only 1 copy of the game is needed, which is GREAT), beating dungeons that take about 15 minutes to complete. There are 8 worlds, each with 4 levels, for a total of 32 stages. Complete each stage, earning rubies along the way, and at the end of the stage you're rewarded with materials that can be used to make new outfits that give you status bonuses (more hearts, weapon boost, more energy, etc.). The puzzles within the levels are fun and clever, and while the first world is a bit of a cake walk for veteran players, the levels do become increasingly challenging.
Online play can can be a mixed bag, with disconnects, log, and connectivity issues, but overall I've found the experience tends to be both surprisingly solid and fun, especially when attempting one of the thirty-two levels with a Drabland challenge active. I've had minor issues with lag and players dropping (for whatever reason), and while communication is limited to a preset list of commands, the system Nintendo put in place works well enough with the mechanics of the game to not make it a hindrance when playing with strangers.
Where the title really falls short is if you'd like to play with only two people, you can't. This is something that could be addressed with a patch down the road, but right now, it's either a solo or trio adventure, which is a downer for couples looking to play together.
Still, it's an enjoyable game that gives players a reason to replay levels over and over again, even if it's for just 15 minutes at a time.

Holy side quest, Batman!

I'm torn about this game. On the one hand, it's a (mostly) polished experience that's enjoyable and caps off a great series of games started on the 360/PS3. On the other hand, the developers over at Rocksteady have crammed so much "side" quest stuff into the game, it feels aimless.
Many modern games have this issue, particularly ones with open worlds. You're pulled in every direction with missions: stop a crime here, put out a fire there, chase some bad guys in the Batmobile. And oh yeah, if you have a moment, remember there's a bomb about to go off, but not really... we need to give you the choice of what to do in the order you want to do it in, so long as you've "unlocked" the different sections of the map. As "open" as this world is, it's not truly open until about halfway through the "main" story mission.
Characters chatter all the time, and in small doses that's fine, but the game is overwritten to a fault, so much so that conversations often overlap one another. Which either proves how pointless most of it is, or just shows a lack of awareness on the developer's part.
Aside from the occasional hiccup in framerate or action, the game runs really well. There were some major issues with the PS4 version, one that required a day-one patch that was nearly 4GBs, with an additional patch a week later to fix the online leader boards that were working on the first day of release.
Overall, it's a good game that doesn't quite achieve the same highs as its predecessor ARKHAM CITY, and with a $40 season pass on the table, those on the fence may want to wait for the inevitable GOTY edition.

You take the lead as your team approaches a clean new area, free of color and chaos. With a smirk, you take it all in ~ you'll soon change that. Two teammates begin spraying down walls, floors, ceilings and every other imaginable surface with ink, claiming this territory as your own with a vivid wash of your colors. You and another fighter scan the area for enemies. The opposition never sees you as you sneak up and douse them in an ink bath they'll never forget. This turf is all yours ~ it's time to move on and paint the whole world in your team's colors.Get messy with Splatoon, a fun-filled third-person action shooter that challenges you to cover levels, and enemies, with a brilliant spray of colorful ink. Take on the role of an Inkling, a squid-like fighter ready to cover yourself and everything around you with your team's hues. Cover the terrain around you in ink to claim it, and spray walls to gain access to hard-to-reach areas. Earn high-powered super weapons by soaking your turf in ink, so you can cover your enemies in color or spray more territory. Put on your thinking cap to dream up devastating strategies, but don't forget to keep an eye on your turf ~ too much attention on the other team may lead to a redecoration of your own territory. Easily refill your tank or hide from enemies with just a touch of a button, or transform into a squid and dive into ink for a blazing-fast speed boost. Attack your own way with a multitude of control options thanks to the Wii U GamePad controller, including gyroscopic controls that let you look around, aim and more with precision. Band together with three friends and get online to take on other teams in four-on-four matches that will have you perched on the edge of your seat. A color-soaked battle awaits ~ are you ready to claim your turf?

No doubt you've seen mixed reviews about the value of a game like Splatoon on a Nintendo platform. It's a different genre for them (an online-focused multiplayer "shooter"), a new IP, and like other games of this nature that have been released on other platforms (at least initially), it's lacking modes/features.
Like most Nintendo games, it's incredibly polished with refined mechanics. Controls are simple, made even more simple with the motion control of the GamePad, and while there is a slight learning curve, after an hour or so with the game new players should feel competent enough to be competitive online. You level up and unlock new weapons with each level, and every day you can purchase new items for your head/body/feet, with each item also having different perks and leveling capabilities. New players level up quickly, and even though it can be tempting to use currency earned through playing on all of the weapons, the starting weapon is surprisingly well-balanced for any player. Unfortunately, there is no off TV play with this game, and that's one of the bigger disappointments for me.
Online itself is a mixed bag. There's no voice chat, an oversight many will lament. It hasn't impacted me, but I can see why others are bothered by it. Most of the matches are smooth and lag-free, but there are times with lag creeps up, and over the first week or so, I have been disconnected from matches (as I would gather so have others with whom I am playing). This hasn't been a huge deal, and it happens with other online games as well, but why it matters is that all games are 4v4. In other words, if someone is disconnected from your team, 25% of your team is gone. On the plus side, even though you will most always lose these matches when they're 4v3, the matches (so far) are all only 3 minutes long.
Currently, there are only two modes. Unranked and Ranked Turf Wars, with the goal being to cover as much horizontal ground in ink as you can in unranked, and control a certain section of the map over a period of time in ranked. Additionally, there are only six maps, with only two in play in both modes at any given time (with the maps being swapped around every 4 hours). This is kind of limiting, but it does help the players get used to the different maps, which I believe is the end goal of limiting the map pool.
If you can break away from the frantic and fun online multiplayer, the single player campaign is a mix of platforming/shooting enemies, and offers a hopeful insight to future maps/content updates that are scheduled to roll out over the course of the summer.
Despite any shortcomings the game has, Nintendo has shown a willingness to adjust and refine their titles even months after the initial release. As Splatoon is in the infancy of its lifespan (hopefully), many of the issues listed may eventually be patched out in the future.
Whatever reservations I have about the state of the game at the moment, one thing is for certain: it's undeniably fun.

The only reason I purchase these cards is to avoid using a credit card through PSN/PlayStation Store, which can all be done in a matter of moments online, and I've never had an issue with them.

Worth the wait

This was the game that was a deciding factor in my purchase of a PS4, and it's excellent. Much has been made of the "difficulty" or "challenge" players can expect to encounter in Bloodborne and the other games in FromSoftware's catalog, and while that may be a barrier to entry for some, those who are not put off will find a game that rewards patience and exploration in a way few games do.
Yes, there are flaws in this game, moments where the game feels cheap because of how you died or the mechanics aren't executed quite as precisely as a game of this nature requires, but those problems never overshadow the experience.
