Mafia 3 is an open-world game set in the deep south in the 1960s. The game covers racial undertones, with some excellent voice acting by the characters along the way. In addition to a fine story, the game has some of the best (licensed) music you can hear in a video game. So while the game starts out well for the first two hours or so, the game ultimately morphs into a generic open world slog, which you'll use to help build your mob empire.

I love Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The soundtrack is wonderful, the worlds on top of the titans are at times breath taking, and the first hour of the game is excellent. While these are great points, the game does have some issues. First if playing this title in handheld mode, the game takes concessions with regards to frame rate and resolution. However the major issue I have with the game is the core combat mechanics itself. The battle system is complex, but the battles themselves are long, unnecessarily drawn out clogs. You'll eventually reach bosses too difficult, forcing you to grind out levels just to advance the story. The battle system was no where like this in the previous game on the Wii, plus the spin off Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U. This is a huge issue on my mind, but after getting frustrated I'm still drawn back into the game and have been pushing forward, just to see more titans and the rest of this story unfold.

Final Fantasy XV is a game that was in development for about a decade. The world is now more open (than it was in the linear Final Fantasy XIII), and the combat system has stepped away from the turn-based system employed in older Final Fantasy games, moving towards an action-based system used in titles like Kingdom Hearts. This game is definitely worth playing to see the story of Prince Noctis unfold, and even though the end game moves away from the open world experience towards a linear conclusion, I would definitely play this game again.

One of the best games to be released in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn imagines a world where society collapses and human kind is no longer the dominant species. In the new world, humans must learn to live with large machines which populate the planet. The open world map is large, with plenty of things to do. Expect a campaign which lasts over 30 hours as well. And if finish the game and still want more Horizon, a new piece of DLC exists called Frozen Wilds which adds an additional section to the world map as well.

This game takes off immediately after the events of Stick of Truth, in fact it'll be noticed in the opening moments of the game. The characters decide to go the super hero route this time, forming a franchise called "Coon and Friends", in search of their main Netflix TV series. Fractured builds upon the elements of the first game, and the big improvement is in its battle system, which now feels like a Fire Emblem game instead of Paper Mario. Granted Ubisoft decided to develop this title in house (instead of using Obsidian like the first game), but this game is incredibly polished. All of the characters and jokes are present, particularly characters in the later series. If you love South Park, you should do yourself a favor and play this game. Then again you probably already have by now.

Evil Within 2 is very similar to the first title, only this time Bethesda added open world elements to the game. The horror is present, and so is the challenge. The story falls apart, but aside from these the game is highly enjoyable. And you have to give credit to the publisher for not including micro-transactions in the single player campaign like other AAA publishers are doing today.

This game is a direct sequel to the 2011 game Deus Ex Human Revolution. Adam Jensen is back and this time he's in Prague, dealing with the events that took place after Panchea happened in Human Revolution. Mankind Divided is a Deus Ex game, and on the current gen consoles the game is beautiful. I ran into some frame rate issues on the Xbox One, but other than that the game is great. My main gripe is with the "single use" microtransactions that the publisher decided to add, but I was able to finish the campaign without having to go to the market place for additional Praxis kits. The other common complaint people have is with the short length of the story, but I didn't consider that an issue. I love Mankind Divided, and I also went out and grabbed the additional expansions released in the season pass, "System Rift" (featuring Francis Pritchard) and "Criminal Past", both of these coming highly recommended from me.

Stardew Valley is a farming simulator, in the veins of the classic Harvest Moon games. The title is loaded with content, and the developers continue to push more and more single player content to the consumer at no cost to them. Already having this on PC and PS4, I bought this title just to support the developer, who is one of the most customer-friendly developers that exist today.

As someone who avoids playing multiplayer games, I pre-ordered this game just for the single player campaign. It's been some time since there's been an excellent story-based Star Wars game. Any ways having started the campaign, the game has the wonderful look and feel of the Star Wars universe. After playing through the campaign however, I was left with an overall generic feeling. Combat is dull, and the story is hackneyed. It feels as if Dice/Criterion simply slapped a "Star Wars skin" on Battlefield 4. Still given the dearth of Star Wars story games, I wasn't complaining after playing this. With that all said, I don't have any intention of wasting my time on the multiplayer, especially given the heat EA and Disney are receiving now from consumers with regards to the microtransactions. That's another topic, but on the whole, this has probably been my most favorite Star Wars story since Knights of the Old Republic was released.

The Golf Club 2 is definitely a title which is for fans of professional golf. The golfing itself is nice, the in-game commentary appropriate, however nothing really stands out with this particular title. Then again there aren't too many excellent golf games out there, and with that statement, The Golf Club 2 is one of the better golfing games on the market.
