Alien is a film that requires little introduction although, in the event that you haven't seen it, know that you're in for one heck of a ride that won't easily be forgotten. Taking the science fiction genre into the realm of pure horror, Alien truly impresses on every level imaginable, whether that be visually, sonically or thematically. This particular blu-ray release showcases the film looking better than it ever has and, as such, comes recommended most highly without hesitation.

Poltergeist is about as mainstream as horror films get (or at least it was for its time) due to its family-friendly themes, storytelling and rating but it still stands on its own all the same and makes for a colorful horror yarn. The blu-ray release here does the film justice with the transfer and, overall, this is recommend most highly for a Halloween or horror-themed family movie night.

Misery is one of the more well-known Stephen King pieces out there and not without good reason. Keeping the viewer amidst a state of continuous emotional tension throughout, Misery is an effective piece of horror that manages to keep things quite grounded in reality. The transfer of this particular blu-ray release is excellent and is sure to please old fans and new viewers alike.

Day Of The Dead, while not perhaps the most well-known of all of the zombie films out there, is nevertheless one of the best. The effects are dazzling and the film is permeated with a kind of nihilistic dread and fatalism that really add something more unsettling than usual to a film of this particular sub-genre. As a whole, I do recommend Day Of The Dead highly to anyone with an interest in horror and/or zombies and would also like to add that the transfer here is excellent and most worthy indeed.

While many people associate the name John Carpenter with the likes of Halloween and The Thing, both rightly so, there are a number of other films under his belt worthy of such recognition, Prince Of Darkness notwithstanding. As usual with this company's releases, the transfer of the film is excellent and I doubt it will get any better than this anytime soon, if ever. As such, if you're a John Carpenter fan or simply enjoy horror cinema at large, Prince Of Darkness is a worthy addition to your collection that explores the darker depths of both science and belief.

Phantasm is a personal favorite of mine and is one that has been long overdue on blu-ray for some time now. The transfer here is truly first-rate and it definitely ranks amongst the best of the best insofar as "old school" horror films are concerned. You really can tell much care was taken in giving Phantasm the high definition treatment it deserves and it shows on this wonderful edition of the film. Highly, highly recommended!

It was a stormy evening (quite literally) on Lake Huron in a small pop-up camper, relentlessly shaken by a vigorous autumnal wind, and I was a boy yet to the hit the "double digits". Being unable to play outside due to the torrential downpour that evening, my father had decided it would instead be a good idea to rent a movie and "stay in" for the evening. As such, we went out and drove a good 20 minutes to the closest strain of civilization - a gas station (yes, in those days you could rent movies just about anywhere, including gas stations) - to look at their tapes. After mulling over the somewhat slim selection for a few minutes, my father had decided to go with John Carpenter's The Fog for our cinematic venture that night and, as they say, the rest is history. Despite the fact that I am in my 30s now, I still actutely remember watching that movie on our tiny and portable TV, engrossed and horrified all at once while the film's length went on. By the end of it I was so awe-struck and terrified that I laid in my bed for at least a couple hours before falling asleep, imagining that every large gust of wind that shook our camper may very well have been Blake and his spectral caravan, and ardently hoping that wasn't the case. Many years have passed since that fateful night but The Fog's impact still remains with me to this day, for it was that very experience that planted the seed within my bosom that has since grown into a well-nourished and ever-blossoming love affair with horror. I guess it's safe to say there was something in the fog after all, no?

It, especially presently, is amongst the most popular of Stephen King's works and has been summarized many times over so I'll refrain from doing that here. Instead, I'd like to highlight this particular blu-ray release and, more specifically, the aspect ratio which is now finally correct for the home media market. The DVD release features a widescreen picture but since the aspect ratio of the actual show was fullscreen the picture was cropped and thus incomplete. Thankfully more care was taken in preparing this blu-ray release for mass consumption and the aspect ratio is as it should be in all of its splendid glory. Also, the picture looks great!
Every episode of television's seminal speculative fiction series that germinated from the mind of Rod Serling is collected in high-definition in this comprehensive six-Blu ray set. Along with the original 156 episodes of the series that provided early roles for Robert Redford, William Shatner, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, Carol Burnett, Burt Reynolds and others, this set includes the original unaired pilot version of "Where is Everybody?", interviews, bloopers, stills, commentary tracks and more.

While I have never been an active broadcasted television viewer, The Twilight Zone nevertheless remains my favorite program of all-time and has gotten many upon many views over the years. Instead of going over the content of the show itself, I'd rather use this review as an opportunity to briefly highlight this particular blu-ray release instead. The picture quality here is excellent and the show has truly never looked better; the extra features are plentiful and even include the show's "pilot" episode if you will which is a nice bonus for life-long fans of the series. In short, this is the quintessential set of The Twilight Zone that will take you to the fifth dimension and beyond ...

Pet Sematary, while not in my personal top three Stephen King adaptations, is an absolutely fantastic horror film in its own right and has earned a place in the hearts of genre fans over the years. The majority of seaoned horror viewers are going to already have seen this, true, but it's worth noting that the blu-ray release of this film is a worthy upgrade to any previous home media release available - the detail is much finer and the color palette more vast. Pet Sematary most definitely belongs in any horror collection and I would recommend this particular release most highly.
