The Amityville Horror is one of the most well-known pieces of the so-called "haunted house" genre and excels at everything one would expect from such a film. I find that the blu-ray transfer of this film is particularly enjoyable in that the autumnal colors are rich and the overall tone "soft", giving the film a natural looking appearance. As such, I do recommend this title most highly to horror fans and to those looking to replace their old DVD or even VHS copy of The Amityville Horror.

The Shining is a film that needs no introduction - if you haven't seen this you are doing yourself and your existence a disservice. If you happen to be getting into horror cinema then hopefully this is high on your list of "to see" films. This particular edition is the first and only blu-ray version of the movie available thus far and it looks excellent - the colors are spot-on and detail is evident but not so strong as to give you an overly grainy picture. It's also worth noting that this edition shows the film in its original widescreen aspect ratio which is most welcome since the common DVD release had the picture cropped to fullscreen. All-in-all, this is the best The Shining has ever looked and I cannot recommend this release highly enough to anyone with even a passing interest in cinema at large let alone horror.
Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis. A brilliant scientist's unbridled ambition leads to his own grotesque transformation. David Cronenberg directed this chilling remake. 1986/color/95 min/R.

The Fly is a film that delves deeper into the viewer's subconscious than may initially be anticipated. Starting off comfortably within the realm of general science fiction, the film eventually spirals into a emotionally jarring and existentially pessimistic journey that will likely hit viewers harder than they anticipate. The blu-ray transfer of this film is excellent and I recommend The Fly quite highly to anyone with an interest in science fiction, horror and/or Franz Kafka.

Salem's Lot, while not the most popular horror film out there, is made of the same ilk that the classics are and is a worthy viewing for any even casual fan of the genre. It creates a dense, consistent and creepy atmosphere that very much lends itself to the vampiric mythos that the film so passionately nourishes. The blu-ray transfer of this release is strong and I am also glad that the full-screen aspect ratio was kept intact as opposed to it being cropped to widescreen (and, in effect, losing part of its picture). At any rate, I highly recommend this gem to anyone with even a remote interest in horror films.

An American Werewolf In London is a beloved horror film and any guru of the genre is likely to have seen it (and multiple times at that). It, along with many other horror films, have more than one version available on blu-ray and this new release is the better of the two. The other edition, called the "full moon version", while a nice blu-ray transfer in of itself, is not as well-done as this new "restored edition" so, if you're after some great werewolf action on blu-ray, this specific copy is the one to get.

Halloween is a classic, renowned horror title and covering the film itself here would be futile. With that said, there are two versions of this classic available on blu-ray and this one - the 35th anniversary edition - is definitely the superior of the two. Unlike the first generic release, this particular edition of Halloween was restored to optimize the blu-ray format and it most definitely shows in the transfer. If you do not own this gem already and are trying to decide which version to get, the 35th anniversary edition is the way to go!
