First, be warned: These are the films only. There are no language options, subtitles, special features, etc.. When you choose; it goes straight to the movie. These are 2 classic Harryhausen 50s sci-fi movies. They were both released by Columbia(now Sony) Studios. It shows Mr. Harryhausen's skills as a "stop motion" artist to his fullest. The picture is a nice mastering; both are b & w, but, the images are nice and sharp. I have "20 Million Miles to Earth" on a 2-disc special edition DVD; this has all the features, documentaries, commentary, etc.. that are not here. But, it is at the DVD resolution; these are complementary to each other; one does not replace the other. I am not certain if "It Came from Beneath" was available on DVD or VHS videotape at all. Both films are also classic examples of low-budget films at their best and imaginative. "It Came from Beneath" does use some great sets; several scenes are set in, and, on a submarine. The studio apparently got permission to use an actual sub for these. However, a couple of scenes show that they used existing footage(a standard practice to cut costs; it is still being done today) for the movie. Check the scene when the monster attacks a waterfront warehouse, and the traffic on the street. Well, I did say this is a low- budget film. The stories still hold up, though, and, so do the special effects for the most part. Ray Harryhausen learned from the best in his field and always cared about his audience. For those who love these old films, I can recommend this Two-pack(that it was in the Best Buy Blu-ray bargain bin was a definite plus) without any hesitation. For others, who want to see what the fuss is; you won't spend a lot to get them; and, you get to see some interesting and fun movies. Ray was a great artist, and, these show off his work beautifully. And, you can see how even a low-budget movie is still great entertainment. Highly recommended!
This release collects every episode from the debut season of The Blacklist, the NBC series starring James Spader as a powerful and lethal spy who helps authorities catch other nefarious international criminals.

This review is less about the disc contents than it is about the show itself. First, the contents themselves are well mastered; the picture and sound are excellent. The special features give a lot of good back story about the characters, and the FBI unit. I haven't watched them all or in their entirety, but, the few minutes I did watch are worthwhile. What makes this program is the casting, the writing, and the concept behind it all. James Spader plays a creepy guy. He is not so much a "criminal mastermind" as a "criminal mastermind's, criminal mastermind". He has been wanted for 20 years, then just walks into an FBI office to give himself up. Why? Well, that is not clear; but, it is clear that he has an agenda; and wants the FBI to help him carry it out. He has a list of really nasty people who he is willing to give up; in return, he has some conditions: He will talk/work with only one agent; freedom of action; etc.. The reasons are never given; but, clues are sprinkled throughout the episodes. There is a great element of never knowing where, or what, or why some of the villains he gives up to the FBI. The producers keep a great element of suspense and mystery in all the episodes. James Spader is having great fun as a villain; all these combine to give us a great program. Season 1 is the start; Season 2 will give up a little more; who knows what the next few seasons will have? Only more good stuff, is my opinion. Buy this season! I cannot recommend it enough!

This was Sean Connery's last official outing as James Bond. He thwarts a plot by Blofeld(played by Donald Pleasance) to start a war between the USA, and the USSR. To do this, he travels to Japan where MI-6 believes that all the activity is happening. This is in many ways the typical Bond movie with great stunts, good(for the times) special effects, beautiful women, and good dialogue between Bond and his colleagues and the many villains he encounters. The Blu-ray presentation is fantastic; the studios(MGM and Fox) did a great job of mastering it. It is 2 hours of great fun, suspense, and thrills. Sean Connery was very comfortable in the role(though it was his last time as Bond); and handled it smoothly. I can recommend this not just for Bond, or Connery fans; but, to anyone who enjoys movies. This series of films have lasted for 50 years; this film shows why. The producers, and writers care about the films, and their audience. It doesn't get better than this.

This is not "Great Cinema"; but, it is a lot of fun. It is filled with gratuitous violence, and stunts that are unbelievable; but, could happen. Sly Stallone got together a great cast of action movie actors, and, a decent story about an arms dealer(played be Mel Gibson) who will sell to anyone. Gibson plays the guy who started the Expendables; then went his own way. The Expendables now have to stop or kill him. That is the basic story. Along the way, they blow up armored train, a prison, and an abandoned hotel(and, great explosions they are!). The "The Expendables" series are a throwback to the action movies of the 80s & 90s; and, include a lot of the actors who made them. It is clear that they are having fun making the movies; and, making fun of themselves; when Wesley Snipes' character is freed; the others ask why he was in prison. His answer is: "Tax evasion(a reference to his recent conviction)". I could go on; but, it could turn boring. Again, this is a fun movie; the actors had fun making it; and, it doesn't have any pretentions of being otherwise. On a more technical note, the Blu-ray is one of the first, if not the first, to use the new Dolby Atmos sound format. I don't have a Dolby Atmos capable receiver; but, it was handled as Dolby TruHD 7.1 by my system. I imagine that it will sound impressive when I finally upgrade to it.
