May be small but it packs a serious sound punch!

Type of Listener:Casual listener
Most Important to Purchase:Sound quality
How Often Used:3-5 times a week
I have previously owned the Soundlink II and although I liked it, I got rid of it because it was just too big. This speaker on the other hand is just the right size and packs some serious sound into a tiny box with the same qualities as the Soundlink II only smaller. I was shocked at how good this sounded using Sirius app on the iPhone. Not only that, it is much easier to use and it seems to connect a bit quicker and has a charger base which I do like. I purchased the protective case for it as well and in all it is a great purchase and a nice price!

Does not work splitting Fios and Xbox One
on January 3, 2014
Posted by: recruiter89
from Boston, MA
Those of you trying to split your cable between Xbox One and a Verizon Fios box are in for a rude awakening. This will work for about 30 minutes and then channels will start blacking out and distortion sets in and then you will lose about 20 HD and regular channels before the motherboard on your Fios box blows. I tried to do this since I did not want Xbox One controlling my cable all the time and it wrecked my entire cable set up. I called Verizon and they had to ship me a new set top box. The compliance with this splitter is not in compliance with certain Fios channels including Bravo, Disney and Nickelodeon. Plus it distorts other channels and then blocks you out entirely of certain channels. Do not do this! It is not worth it and not worth TV integration splitting with Fios.
What's great about it: Looks like it does the job
What's not so great: Does not work splitting Xbox One and Fios

The PS4 is a graphical powerhouse, able to deliver massive game worlds with impressive clarity and detail. 8GB of RAM allows for serious multitasking potential, complementing the great apps and features that make up the PS4 experience. The PlayStation brand of consoles has an impressive history of delivering world-class exclusive games, and the trend is sure to continue with the PS4. The growing blockbuster catalog is backed by a library of free-to-play and indie games, giving you flexibility in how you pay and play. The PS4 also acts as a social hub, with several built-in features that take advantage of the social networks you're already using. The controller's Share button opens up a world of video sharing, with the option to stream your gameplay live or record it to edit and post later. PlayStation Vita owners will enjoy the connectivity that ties the two devices together, from Remote Play, which allows you to play your PS4 games on your Vita's screen over a local Wi-Fi network, to Cross-Buy, which allows you to purchase a game digitally only once and play it on both your PS4 and your Vita. All PS4 consoles will need a firmware update and must be connected to the Internet to complete the update. While your console will not always need to be connected to the Internet, a one-time connection is required for the update. Online multiplayer requires a paid PlayStation Plus membership. Some features require a broadband Internet connection; ISP fees apply. PS3 games, controllers and some accessories are not compatible with the PS4.

Beautiful graphics and impressive gameplay!

I have owned every Sony console since PS2 and have to say this one is the best yet. Got this on release day and it really exceeded expectations. I was a bit upset there was no backward compatibility with PS3 games however I feel this will far surpass PS3 with graphics and speed in no time. The set up was easy and I was playing games quickly with no hassle. The box does get very hot and the fan tries to cool it down as much as possible but still gets a bit warm. The design is very sleek and compact compared to my Xbox One which is bulky and large. The one thing Sony did not do well with here is the home screen which is nothing like the full integration of Xbox One. It is boring and basically shows a row of boxes with unchangeable background music which is also boring. The game selection is okay but not as good as Xbox yet, but sure it will get better. However graphics are spectacular, Call of Duty and Battlefield are impressive and speed and game play has come a long way. The controller is heavy and a lot better and looks like more is to come since it includes a touchpad. I like the fact you can standby from a game to home screen and save your spot. Multiplayer is about the same but Playstation Plus is a waste of money right now. The free games are horrible and it is a waste of $49. Unless they plan to come out with more capabilities for this, I would not purchase a membership. Between the two consoles, Xbox now having Blu Ray, I have to say I have always liked Sony, but I think Xbox has given them some serious competition and it is a matter of time before Microsoft take the helm of the video game wars. For now I like having both for exclusive content.
What's great about it: Love the new graphics and speed
What's not so great: Home screen is a boring concept

So far so good and a very cool device!

I purchased this yesterday at Best Buy and it was the last one since they literally were sold out. This seems to be a very popular item and blows away a lot of the other similar devices out there. It fits on your wrist like a watch and is waterproof and sweat proof. The monitor is a small piece that fits into the band and it syncs with your computer and/or iPhone or iPad to measure daily steps walked, calories burned, food intake, sleep and even water intake. You can also input and log exercise outside normal routine and even mood. The band is comfortable and you can buy colors to match etc. The small piece syncs automatically with your iPhone and computer when near and needs charging every 5 days. It is very simple to set up and start using and works great. The only complaint is the calories burned which I guess is measured by metabolic figures you put in like age and weight and height. It seemed inaccurate and shows me burning like 1200 calories for about 3000 steps walked. If it is right, my metabolism is sure fast. Other than that it is a very cool device and at a good price.

Worthless machine. One ink is down and it stops

I use it for:Document printing
I switched from an HP printer to give Canon a try since I loved their cameras. Let me tell you, Canon has no business being in the printer business. This machine is one of the worst I have ever used. It is big and bulky and barely fits in any office space. It contains multiple ink cartridges of several colors and if one cartridge runs out, printing is suspended and there is no getting around it. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard if you are just printing black and white, to stop printing if color goes down? Plus the wireless is sporadic and the software is not user friendly. It is a worthless machine and I actually tossed the whole machine in the garbage and bought an HP Envy with auto refill ink which is much better. Stick to cameras Canon, get out of the printer business!

Great peace of mind and better than Monster
on October 6, 2013

I researched several Power Conditioners prior to making the choice on this one. First off, Best Buy has all of these and unless you are an authorized retailer of Panamax, they will not honor their warranty protection of your home theater. Amazon however is not an authorized seller and sells through third parties which does not qualify for the extended protection. It costs a bit more through Best Buy but at least you know you are purchasing from an authorized dealer.
The unit is quite large and resembles a stereo amplifier and can blend in nicely to any home theater set up. If you are expecting detailed directions of how to set this up, there are none, but the putlets on this are labeled pretty well and all it takes is to plug it into a wall outlet and start plugging in your components. What you will notice, the front of this until has two round windows displaying amps and actually is reading power coming in. Plus you can run your audio system through the high voltage outlets and it separates the sound so as not to interrupt your other systems from speaker distortion etc. I compared this to the Monster units and there is no comparison. Monster makes fine power strips, but for my new Sony 4K TV, I would not trust a measly Monster power strip to protect something this valuable. Once plugged into this unit, it takes over and manages your power intake and protects your systems and is always on monitoring. This unit is a bit pricey but I would not expect anything less to protect my high end equipment.

What's great about it: Top of the line power conditioner, best on the market
What's not so great: Pricey

Ditched my iPad for this magnificent machine!!
on July 8, 2013
Posted by: recruiter89

Let me just say I am an avid Apple fan, owning every Apple product from iMac, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, 1st through 3rd generation iPad and every iPhone to date and Apple TV from 1st generation. I though Apple could do no wrong and loved everything about their designs, their products and went all in with Mac, getting rid of my PCs. I though Microsoft was done and laughed when someone told me they bought a PC. Up until now, I have tried other tablets (Sony, Samsung) but they just never compared to iPad. However what iPad lacked was the functionality to transition to business. I do a lot of writing in my business and thought the iPad could assist being so portable but it never could.
Microsoft has reinvented itself and launched full force into the tablet world with a magnificent machine capable of being both tablet and full fledged PC all in one incredible package. I sold my iPad 3 64GB since it was not only dusty and cobwebbed from not being used, but I was quite frankly bored with it. Apps, apps and more apps but the problem was, it lacked further functionality and productivity. Yes I could check my bank account and control my TV and go on the web browsing, but it got old and whatever dreams Apple had of inventing tablets and being the leader is slowly slipping away and I feel disappeared with Steve Jobs. Sure there was magic in the first iPad, but it is old and not even close to what Microsoft has created with this latest creation. Like you reading this now, I screened hundreds of reviews on the Surface, on every type of electronics website and found only a few negative reviews (Apple die hards). For the most part, all are positive and they are absolutely correct. This is a brilliant piece of technology, and Windows 8 does take getting used to but no different than when I had to get used to new Apple OS releases annually. Plus I plugged this tablet into a 23" monitor and it is like I have a full PC in a tiny package. It is fast, efficient and I can take care of business and still browse applications. Sure the Microsoft App store is nothing compared to iTunes, but this is how iTunes started and in time, there will be thousands of apps flooding this store. This is not a fluke and not a tablet that will quickly disappear. Microsoft has truly broke ground on what a tablet should be, an all in one Ultrabook in tablet form. Until Apple comes out with something even close to this, I am not going back to iPad. By the way, the guy that bought my iPad was buying it for his 7 year old so go figure what that technology has turned into.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, beautiful screen, computer all in one and Windows 8 is awesome!
What's not so great: Price tag is a bit high, battery could be better, touch screen takes getting used to

Simply awesome! The best sound on the market!
on March 28, 2013
Posted by: recruiter89

I just purchased this last component to my home theater and I can say I am now hooked on Sonos! This sound system is simply the best on the market and is so easy to set up it is sick. I have owned many systems, from Sony to Onkyo to Pioneer and nothing compares. Even the Bose systems I tested in the Magnolia section of Best Buy struggled to compare. Plus no system is fully wireless and works off of your existing Wifi. See what Sonos does best is connects to existing Wifi to become part of your digital household. Plus it just looks nice and the sound is crisp and true 5.1 surround. Adding this sub to my Playbar and two Play 3s completed what already was a booming sound. Now I crank this up and it is like Thunder shaking the house. I can't even put it at the top levels it is so strong. Plus playing music through the system is unbelievable, using my existing iTunes library and internet radio stations. When I needed to optimize the system, I called Sonos Tech support and they actually were able to log on and see my system and help me from their offices with diagnostics. The future is finally here and no more wires running all over the room. You plug in and hit one button and you are connected and up and running. Everything from the packaging to instructions is almost exactly like an Apple product, seamless and simple. Try this and you will never return to another system. The people I know that bought this system, brought their Bose system to the basement for a yard sale! Do yourself a favor, buy this system!
What's great about it: Booming sound with an easy set up and wireless
What's not so great: very pricey/expensive

Just what I needed for Sonos Play 3 speakers
on March 18, 2013
Posted by: recruiter89
from Boston, MA
Was looking for speaker stands to hold my new Sonos surround Play 3 speakers since I paired them with the new Playbar and the ones on the main floor were sticks that looked terrible. I walked into the Magnolia section and found these. They fit the bill and were easy to assemble and looks great and are very sturdy. The heavy metal hold any small speaker and the 24" height was enough to reach my couch arms which is what I needed. They do not have screws that fit into the speakers but just sitting on the platform works fine. There are spikes for feet which keep this off the floor and keep the sound fluid. I would highly recommend.
What's great about it: Looks great and is sturdy and durable. Perfect for non Bowers speakers!
What's not so great: No real compatibility screw wise for other speakers

Paired two of these with the new Playbar, awesome!
on March 17, 2013
Posted by: recruiter89
from Boston, MA
Just purchased the new Sonos Playbar for my home theater and ditched my 3D Sony Playbar with wireless sub. I am new to Sonos but the Best Buy Magnolia sales associate turned me on to this system and I am hooked! I ended up buying two of these to pair with my Playbar to be used as surround speakers and what a fantastic sound! Forget the sub, this bass moves the room and I do not even have this cranked all the way up. Sure this whole system is pricey but who cares, it is easy to set up and it is wait for it...wireless! Just what I was looking for. Who wants to have wires running all over the room or worse under carpets or around the walls. Just plug in each speaker, sync with your bridge and presto, this is on your network and can play music from your iTunes library existing on your Mac or iPad or iPod or iPhone. Plus you get all internet radio and it sounds awesome! The Playbar I reviewed separately and it is just as awesome! You will love the ease of setting this up with two buttons and how nice it compliments your rooms! Plus I can disconnect one of these and carry to another room and play other music through that one speaker flawlessly! Sonos is simply better and will beat out your Dad's Bose system in a heartbeat! Wave radio what?? Doesn't even compare.
What's great about it: Easy set up, amazing sound and wireless!
What's not so great: The price tag could run you some serious cash!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Big Differences between 2nd gen Nests! Great!
By recruiter89 from Boston, MA
I had just installed 2 2nd generation Nests and 3 weeks later this was released so I boxed them up and returned both to Best Buy and swapped them out for this generation version. Those of you who think there are no big differences in generations, you are dead wrong. This generation of Nest is thinner, larger more bold screen and has a Farsight setting which enhances the entire dial, noticing you from about 20 feet away looking at the thermostat. Plus it seems more intuitive and is just sleeker looking. What happened was Google bought these guys and said, lets update this product to make it look like a modern product put out by a Google company. Plus this syncs nicely with all 9 of my 2nd gen Nest Protects and is just a beautiful product. So go ahead and trade in your 2nd gen Nest Thermostat because you won't be sorry!
