brighter than advertised

These seem to be even brighter than advertised, I replaced 120w "old" bulbs and these seem brighter. The extra blue shade is rather extreme compared to the other two which seem more natural.

This is an adult story, and that does get a bit tough but it is interesting and does make you think about the motivations of batman, batgirl, and the joker.

A good service for serious gamers
on January 4, 2014

There are many free and discounted games, game add-ons, skins, and playstation themes available with this service, so it is worth the investment if you game enough. They are updated every week, if you are away and miss a promotion there is no way I know of to go back and claim it, though. You do have the ability to re-download anything you have successfully purchased, so you aren't required to store all the free content to have access to it. If your subscription lapses, you will lose the free things, but the items purchased on discount will be kept associated with your account.
For the PS4 this also enables online play, but the other sony systems don't require the service to play online. You only need on subscription per account, it is not tied to your hardware.
There are some smaller services like trials of several games, automatic downloading for hardware updates, priority access to betas, and online storage for game saves. These services aren't that great but worth mentioning. There is also a marker placed on your username online to indicate you subscribe to playstation plus, it doesn't do anything else, but it is something to be aware of.
This is currently not required to access any 3rd party online services, like netflix, hulu plus, and amazon prime; other consoles may require a premium subscription to use such services but currently none of Sony's do.
Currently there don't seem to be free or discounted offerings on Music, TV shows, or movies which are also sold in the playstation store but that may change in the future. There was a code for a 1 month trial of epix which is a 3rd party movie service, but nothing as regular as the gaming promotions.
The service is worth the price for me, but it may not be worth it for you, look at the current and past promotions and make your own decision based on how much you game. The playstation store will list current promotions and many websites list previous promotions. If you prefer less-popular titles, if you don't play many games, or if you purchase everything on the day it is released, it may not be worth the investment; but if you are patient but still want variety in your games, this will pay off.

What's great about it: Free games and numerous discounts
What's not so great: required for online play on PS4

Commando or spy, you can decide and love it!
on November 15, 2008
Posted by: izual1
This is like three games in one. The single player is very open-ended, you can play it like a spy who sneaks through a battlefield, or you can be a commando who kills everybody who looks at him wrong. Replaying it as a different type of person is like playing a different game all together, it's great!
Sometimes you will be all alone in the middle of a warzone, and sometimes you will find yourself killing a crazy robot with the help of several commandos who are on your side, they all feel right and work well together. There are also some situations which feel like they would be at home in Resident Evil, but it is still a great addition to the game itself, so I am happy, you will be too.
The graphics are very impressive, meaning you will see a great amount of details and that's a great thing given the nature of this genera. Also, there is a wide array of environments to enjoy, which keeps the graphics feeling fresh.
The online portion is very interesting, there are several modes that have Snake-style spies fighting guards or eachother, which is really unique for online and makes it easy for people to enter. There are also updates arriving to keep people playing it so coming lake to the party won't keep you from enjoying this part of the game.
The plot is a mixed bag, but the high point is certainly the characters. Several cut scenes will leave you feeling like these people are real and not just stereotypes. You don't have to know the story so far to enjoy this game, also there is a bit of downloadable content you can get for free that will explain who people are and what is going on if you do want extra detail.
The story is a bit convoluted and hard to follow, but that is not something you will be faced with too often, but there are some unclear moments. It is one of the clearest plots for this series, so do not let this hold you back, I just have to say something negative or I don't feel objective.
This goes into the "is it good or bad" column, I like the amount of cutscenes, but you may not. Just think of it like a movie, and enjoy yourself. If you really hate them you don't have to watch them to know what your mission is, so don't feel bad.
Overall, this game is wonderful, I suggest everyone at least try the new demo or just buy it now.
What's great about it: Great action, fantastic variety, excellent graphics, interesting and free online, and the characters have depth
What's not so great: The story is still odd and there are lots of cutscenes

A great game with wonderful improvements, mostly
on November 13, 2008

There are new weapons which fit in the the universe and make combat very interesting and entertaining. These are also sprinkled through the adventure, so you are not overwhelmed. There have also been improvements to the weapons from the original.
I won't spoil anything for you, but it is a good thing and it does make the game very exciting.
There are new enemy types which makes your combat strategy vary, some are huge and some are tiny hordes.
Online is improved and comes in two flavors. Co-op where you go through a different story with seven other people or you can compete online like you could in part one. The competitive isn't as frenzied as it was before, and I consider that an improvement but if you prefer not having time to think, you might be disappointed.
The game has taken a hint from other first person shooters and only allows you to carry two guns at once. This change makes me think of SIlent Hill: Homecoming, both of these games are great, but are not very similar to their previous installments. The two guns issue has reduced difficulty because ammo is more plentiful since you cannot carry multiple guns. In the first one you could carry all the guns you had found so far, meaning you had plenty of ammo but for different guns so you sometimes had to conserve the ammo for one gun by using a gun that wasn't perfect for your situation. Now, they cannot assume you have the right gun for the job so it is given to you, along with ammo. Basically, it takes away some of the strategy of the first one.
Nathan talks more now. In the first one he was almost mute only saying the occasional line, now he has a personality. That is like the two guns issue, a change. Not necessarily bad or good, but worth mentioning.
The last potentially bad change is that the HUD (heads up display which you always see around the screen) gives much less information. You cannot see your health bar now, but the screen darkens when you are in trouble so it isn't a guessing game, but it can be confusing at first.
This game is great, but I had to address the changes that were made. I welcome the changes and enjoyed both campaigns and can recommend this to anyone looking for a first person shooter.
What's great about it: New and improved weapons, great scares, plenty of new enemies, and online.
What's not so great: only two weapons, Nathan talks more, and minimalist HUD

Very expansive world of mini-quests
on October 25, 2008
Posted by: izual1
I couldn't imagine a more expansive game that wasn't an MMO, in fact it feels like an MMO at certain times because various people will kill eachother, so you will find dead bodies in some surprising places. There is also a wide variety of lands to explore and discover, but they all have different kinds of monsters. The equipment and item lists are equally massive and allows you to try a variety of new things.
These new things let you choose your kind of adventure, you can be nice or a jerk, a dumb brawler or a wise wizard, a very focused savior or an easily distracted side-quest completer. Side-quests are a major part of this game since some will suit the nice guys, some will suit the bad, and others will have different endings for how you act. These quests will drag you all over the country, in a good way.
Going different places is good because it gives you the opportunity to see all of the beauty this world has to offer. I wish it had printer support for some of the beautiful scenes both of horror and of peaceful nature. You will notice yourself going places just to see what is there instead of doing it because you must.
On the downside, the expansive nature can make this a bit repetitive, the wide variety of landscapes will keep it interesting, but there are only so many kinds of monsters to kill or dungeons to explore.
The expansive nature also makes the game get easier and easier, here's why: when you start out, you are a novice of everything and so are the bad guys, when you get better at your primary tasks (you pick those) your enemies will too, but the rest of their stats will stay low, if they are warriors, they won't learn any spells though you may have. You can turn up the difficulty to counter this as I had to, so it isn't a big issue.
Overall, this is great and will serve to consume your time like few other games on the consoles.
What's great about it: very expansive, very open-ended, and beautiful
What's not so great: can get repetitive and a bit too easy

Best game in the series
on October 21, 2008
Posted by: izual1
This is one of those great games you don't have to sell very hard, just looking at it you see it is something special. There is a nice effect of blurring distant objects allowing them to give more detail to the nearer objects and emphasize realism. It isn't perfect, but it serves to immerse the player nicely.
There are many different objectives to accomplish, defend things, destroy things, carry your wounded pal around and occasionally put him down so you can BOTH fight, and there are also traps to use.
The online component is one of the biggest draws of this game, the leveling system makes it addictive to gain more and more. This leads to an issue which leads to the new players being at a disadvantage since they lack the gear and skills of their higher-ranking competition.
The gameplay is also short, short enough to finish the single-player campaign in a single week, but you will probably replay it. There are also more races from here or there with enemies between for my taste, but your opinion may differ.
Overall this is great and you should strongly consider purchasing this game.
What's great about it: Great graphics, different types of gameplay, addictive online, and it's fun!
What's not so great: The online leveling system is hard on new guys, it is a bit short, and there are too many time trials

Not as good as part three, but better than par two
on September 27, 2008
Posted by: izual1
The graphics are good, and the levels vary in style nicely from blizzards, to jungles. Different textures look varied too, but it is nothing that amazing.
Many of the standards of the series are here, the style, the crazy action, the ability to customize your skillset, and the blades & bullets combat. If you enjoyed previous installments in the series like part one and part three, you will enjoy this one, mostly. One notable part is Nero's sword which revs almost like a motorcycle giving it more power.
There are several memorable bosses you will encounter both as Dante and Nero with very different styles of attack, which is great. The one glaring exception to those bosses is the final one who can only be defeated using a certain technique which runs contrary to the history of the series wherein you could use any one of multiple attack strategies to defeat the bosses. Beyond that, you will be happy.
The biggest problem of this game is the length and predictability of the levels. This is spoiler-free. You are forced to start as Nero on one side of an island, when you reach the other end you are forced to use Dante to return to the original starting point meaning you know exactly where you are and what is waiting for you. IN PREVIOUS INSTALLMENTS of the series many areas were organized like a wheel with spokes, you would go to a common area and enter various sub-areas to gain access to other areas which brought many surprises and various bosses who may or may not return without warning and new tricks. IN THIS INSTALLMENT, that is not the case, the surprise is removed for most of the exploration and boss fights because the maps and patterns do not change much. There are no surprises in the Dante half, which is really disappointing. Backtracking was part of other games in the series, but those had modifications to the original levels to make them feel fresh and unexpected, it is the most disappointing part of this title.
There were only a few moments where I was afraid I would die, which isn't acceptable for me since I want to have to fail once or twice before winning a game. This becomes especially evident with Nero's arm which renders everyone but bosses helpless allowing you to smash the enemy soldiers into the dirt one by one without any danger to yourself. There are different difficulty modes, but those must be unlocked, in Japanese tradition.
In previous devil may cry games you could not return skills previously purchased, this has obviously changed due to the character change halfway through, but it makes the strategy of character creation feel shallow. Also, the different styles used by Dante are reduced to moves executed used by one button instead of affecting all aspects of the controls such as speed or attack power.
Overall it was enjoyable, but a little disappointing. If you enjoyed the series, pick this up, or at least rent it. If you are looking for great action, hold out for God of War 3 or try Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
What's great about it: Looks good, comparable to previous titles, and lots of action.
What's not so great: Predictable, easy, and somewhat shallow.

Most innovative next-gen real-world shooters yet
on February 24, 2008
Posted by: izual1
Most shooters have a choice, either be realistic and suffer with boring environments/weapons/enemies OR take place in space/future/non-realistic areas and risk realism fans. This game keeps the realism and brings the flash and excitement of a terrorist-filled Vegas. You cannot talk about this game without addressing the setting, which is wonderful without being distracting. The interactivity is great, everything breaks making distractions very possible, it is amazing this is the first game to feature shootouts in a casino, that I can think of. There are other places too, dilapidated streets, offices, "the strip" and a bank-like series of back rooms. The enemies vary a bit from poorly trained thugs to elite terrorist agents, not the variety you'd expect from resistance or half-life, but still better than you would get from other Tom Clancy games. The weapons don't vary that much but are fine, you won't be bothered by it. The only other game with this level of variety on the PS3 is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune which has only one person, not a squad, and there are more puzzle-elements in Uncharted, but it's worth mentioning in case you aren't a fan of Clancy.
The only substantive problem you'll find is that there is little random content; the maps don't change, the character AI doesn't change, the weapon location doesn't change, once you figure out how to pass a challenge that method will always work and will probably work in later levels too. If you do get bored, there is a nice online feature, which is well worth a try and offers more variety. The controls are fine, but take a little getting used to, and there is some six-axis usage which is fine. The story is a little silly, but does it's job.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes tactical shooters with a variety of environments and enemies, if they don't like online I'd warn them about a lack of replayability.
What's great about it: Wonderful setting, good visuals, nice audio, very interactive environments
What's not so great: Can get predictable, odd story, the controls take a bit of getting used to

Most open-ended game ever
on February 23, 2008
Posted by: izual1
This is no japanese role-playing game! The plot is sparse, but wonderfully voice-acted and the facial motions are great. The extra content, side-quests and styles, are usually easy to find but there is so much you can easily miss some great things. This bevy of content can be a bit overwhelming, so take your time and enjoy yourself. There are different ways of playing, you can shoot arrows, cast spells, bash with axes, slice with swords or stealth-kill with daggers, and don't get me started on enchanted, magic, or poisonous weapons. The scenery is beautiful and the people are just as varied as the rest of the game's content with different races, classes, and dispositions varying on what decisions you make.
The shivering isles expansion is expansion adds many ingredients, potions, poisons, spells, weapons, people, and enemies. All mix well into the rest of the world, and what a world! The isles themselves are two distinct halves one a dark brooding swamp the other a vibrant forest, both wonderfully created and a joy to just walk around in.
If you like role-playing and don't mind getting a massive amount for your money, this will cast quite a powerful enchantment spell on you, just don't forget to get some exercise.
What's great about it: Very open-ended, lots of enemies, lots of random content, great voice-acting, good plot
What's not so great: you might miss some great content if you aren't careful, can be almost too open, some silly items, can get easy

ps2 online internet setup

can you connect a ps2 slim with a ps3 slim by using an ethernet cable to play online?
if not how do you connect a ps2 to the internet?
You'd need a router, any normal router will do. Both systems would connect to that and that would connect to the internet.

Hi my ps3 isnt reading games but it plays dvds and movies wondering what could be the reason i have protection just seeing if i can fix it myself?

I also formatted the whole system and restored all the settings still no luck but it plays sometimes after a lot of opening and closing the system door.
If you cannot play blu-ray movies, that could be a hardware problem. If blu-rays play fine, I cannot think of what the issue could be.

Is there any one out there that knows for sure that the PS3 80GB is B/C with PS2 games? There are too many conflicting answers out there. HELP!!

It depends, if it has 4 USB ports and a card reader, you have software backwards compatibility.
You can check how the software works on the Sony site here: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus
If it has 2 USB ports and no card reader then there is no backwards compatibility.
