The digital zoom function on my Sony Cyber-Shot camera is broken again.
The zoom lens/function on my Cyber-Shot camera is stuck and will not go in and out to focus/zoom. I am convinced this problem is in the design or materials used to perform this function. I've had the same problem before and the Best Buy warranty (I purchased when new) covered the repairs. Now my warranty is expired. I purposely purchase "SONY" products to avoid problems such as this. What can I do to solve the problem? Is this a "RECALL" problem?
Its not a recall. The fact of the matter is that all point-and-shoot cameras are prone to lens errors and misalignments (which is what is causing your specific problem).
As components get smaller and more complex (IE, cameras are getting thinner, more compact, etc...), they will have a higher likelyhood of failure.
Its pretty much a law of manufacturing.
Anyways, on your next point-and-shoot camera, it is highly advisable to get the longest best buy service contract available. They cover these repairs (which would cost you over $150 each time). Furthermore, you can extent the warranty as well.
