I am reviewing the RE9000 as part of the Best Buy Tech Insider Program and, unfortunately, I can't recommend this part. It's very loud. My girlfriend and I compare it to the days of having a dial-up modem. Whenever any device is accessing internet sites (especially streaming sites) the unit makes a high pitch noise.
I thought maybe my device was just defective. I contacted Linksys technical support. First, I contacted their support from the e-mail address listed in a few of their comment responses at LinksysCares@linksys.com. However, they did not respond. So, I called. And, the phone reps were very friendly and agreed with me that the device was defective. They eventually sent me a new one, but this new one has the exact same problem. Both devices make noise. I've never had this problem with a wi-fi router or access point before. It's a very annoying pitch. I tried plugging the device into other outlets. I tried moving its location. But still the noise remains.
Speeds in wireless repeater mode seemed good. Even when working with a router that does not have tri-band features, the repeater gave me speeds at near the same as a direct connection. The device also makes for a good access point. In fact, that's how I would recommend using it. The software is easy to use and did seem to allow for filtering of mac devices. However, the device is slow to boot up and lacks any USB connection.
But, again, I am not impressed with the noise this unit makes. I don't think it should be making any. I wanted to give this a good review. I waited a week hoping this replacement would be better, but it isn't. I'm surprised no one else has commented on this.

These headphones come packed with many great extras: a convenient travel case, plenty of ear bud options for the perfect fit, and cables to allow the headphones to plug into analog devices.
They sound pretty good in my tests, too. Have good range, and they have good battery life.
The “Active Noise Cancellation”, however, does not work. I have other headphones with this feature, but this pair does nothing to drown out air or engine noises. I can’t tell any difference with the feature on or off.
As workout headphones, I think these are great. They’re comfortable and sound good. But the noise cancellation does not work, and if that is why you are purchasing the headphones, you had better look elsewhere.

The Suunto Spartan Trainer Wrist HR is a very powerful sports watch. With navigation features, you can set up routes. You can also view the common routes in your area to plan ahead. The watch face is very easy to read and the tools included on the watch are great.
The battery life depends on how you use the watch. Using GPS and heart rate features pull battery, but so far my watch has managed a few days on one charge.
The watch syncs with my iPhone to provide notifications for everything from Facebook and texts to my daily bible verse. This is not a touch screen device and I don’t believe you can respond to texts from the watch, but still it is very useful when quickly wanting to glance at a text or incoming Facebook notification.
Only real downside at this point is the awful Movescount software used to sync your watch with the phone. Suunto is currently developing a new app which is in Beta, but neither app directly imports my heart rate, steps, and sleep into Apple HealthKit. This makes no sense to me. The watch is obviously recording the data and I can read the statistics from the watch itself, but for someone who is really entrenched with syncing all health data to their smartphone, this may not be the best solution.
The watch is great. I recommend it, but not for people wanting a tool to integrate all data into Apple HealthKit. Maybe the new iPhone app will eventually get there, but in its current state, the Movescount software is easily the weakest link.
Also, the heart rate monitor may not be as accurate as some would like. I have serious questions about its accuracy.
However, the rest of the watch features are amazing at the current list price. I just wish the apps and phone integration worked.

Great Document Scanner for Homes and Small Offices
on January 4, 2018

from Abington, PA
This is an incredibly fast and easy to use document scanner. I highly recommend it for anyone in a home or small office setting.
My stack of documents scan in fast and look great. The on screen interface makes it easy to set the scanner up, connect to WiFi, and to make scanning adjustments. You can use this scanner many different ways: hook it up directly to a computer with a USB cable (not included), hook it up to a wired network, scan directly to USB, scan over WiFi to a computer, scan to email, and there is an app (the Brother iPrint&Scan) for the iPad.
Still, there were a few hiccups..
Setup materials were a bit more sparse than I anticipated. There’s a tape that needs to be removed before you attach the paper tray, but the QuickStart materials didn’t mention it. There is no software included and if you need a proper manual and software, you will need to visit support.brother.com. I wasn’t entirely sure which software was needed and I installed the bare minimum. Still, the scan to computer feature worked well.
The iPad app worked, but did crash on me once or twice. The three / five star reviews on the app lead me to think this must be a common problem. But the iPad app worked more often than not.
All in all, the scanner works well. My complaints are pretty trivial and I can see this scanner helping a lot in the office.

This is a great mouse for someone who wants a no frills gaming mouse.
The mouse can connect via Bluetooth and Logitech’s low latency usb dongle. Either option works great.
If I have any complaints, it’s that there is very little in documentation. The software for the mouse needs to be downloaded from logitech’s Website to maximize the features. The batteries are supposed to last 500 hours, but I wish there was a rechargeable battery built in.
But the mouse is very responsive. The software does a great job detecting the installed games. In my testing, the mouse performed great and I personally prefer this to the tether of a wired mouse.

Photoshop is the gold standard for a reason. I’m not convinced there are enough new features to encourage existing users to upgrade, but if you are new to photo editing, this new edition is great. There are plenty of guided features and tutorials built into the programs to ensure anyone can edit their photos or videos.
P.S. someone said that there was no download code and that this software does not work on computers without a DVD player, but that is simply not true. Adobe gives you a link in the box to download the software with the included software keys.

With the Ultimate Ears Blast, UE have created a great portable speaker with some Alexa integration now with more features to come later.
The speaker sounds great. Portable speakers are everywhere these days, but this speaker produces some of the best sound I have heard from a speaker this size. I tested the Blast with my iPhone and the set up was easy and within a few seconds I was playing music from my Apple library.
In addition to Bluetooth, UE have included Alexa integration over WiFi. In my testing, the Alexa has worked well. I tell the speaker to play Christmas music and it works. The mic can hear me and the voice commands are pretty intuitive. The Blast responds to many basic commands and plays music from Amazon, TuneIn, and iHeartRadio. If you don’t have Amazon Music, a 3 month subscription is included.
To get the most out of your Blast, you need the Ultimate Ears App and the Amazon Alexa app. I wish the Blast had built in Pandora support, but Ultimate Ears claim that support is coming soon.
The entire package would be better if there was a 3.5mm jack on the Blast and if the charging base had been included with the speaker, but beyond that, I really can’t think of anything wrong with this speaker. The UE Blast works great and I highly recommend it.

As far as I can tell, the Arlo cameras are the best wireless security cameras bar none. They work inside and outside. Set up is easy and the included mounts are magnetic which makes it easy to positions cameras as you want.
The batteries for the cameras come precharged and when the batteries do wear down, you can charge them with the included micro usb cable.
The cameras truly are the highlight and the picture during nighttime usage is great. You can set up motion tracking zones, however to use that feature, your cameras need to be plugged into a power outlet. But even without the preset zones, the motion tracking does a great job picking up movement.
The system isn’t quite as “wireless” as I would like. The base station requires an internet connection. There is no WiFi built into the base station. So that means you have to either plug the Arlo base directly into your router with the included Ethernet cable, or you have to buy a WiFi extender separately to link the Arlo base to your router.
There are two USB ports on the back of the base station. You can add a USB stick for local backup, but the station has to back up to the cloud. The usb storage isn’t a substitute for online recording and can’t be used in lieu of the online storage. You have to have an internet connection for the Arlo system to work.
There are three online storage options. The free option has recording for “seven days of memories”, 1gb of storage, and 3 months of support. The paid plans expand the length and size of storage and provide unlimited support.
Each camera and the base station required a firmware update upon activation, but the software was very easy to set up and the app support on the iPhone and appletv was great and easy to use.
I think the Arlo system is the best wireless security system currently available. I could add three more cameras, the range has been great, and the entire thing has been very easy to setup and use. I wish the base had WiFi built in and allowed for local recording without internet, but I can easily recommend Arlo for the quality of the cameras alone.

The safety is great, but set up wasn’t quite as “simple” as I hoped.
The nice thing about the SimpliSafe packages is that all the pieces come preconfigured in the box to work together. The base station will automatically sync with the keypad, entry sensors, and motion sensors. You can later add pieces as you want to add smoke detection, temperature monitoring, glass shattering, and water detection. I wish this kit had come with glass shattering sensors, but I know it will be an easy item to add in the future.
Once installed, the batteries on the individual devices are supposed to work for several years and the pieces themselves seem built to last. The base station is a bit bigger than I expected, but it reaches the entire house.
Physical installation of the system is easy. The only piece that has to be plugged in to an outlet is the base station. The other pieces adhere in place with 3M tape that does a good job keeping the pieces where you want them. However, the motion sensors needed their tape in a different spot as you can’t stick them to the corner with the current tape placement. You also have the option of screwing the pieces in if the 3M tape isn’t secure enough for you. But most people will probably be fine using the 3M tape.
Setting up the software was a bit more confusing than I would like. The entry key also functions as a usb setup device for the system. You plug the key into a computer and the software walks you through the process and then syncs your settings with the base station. But it was also a bit confusing as the software would open up multiple windows and not tell me I needed to go back to the main window to finish setting up the base station and the entry keypad.
It has also taken me the better part of an afternoon to get all of this working. I found out after installing the system that my town requires a permit for security systems. I filled out the required municipal forms, but it appears I have to wait until I send the permit number to SimpliSafe for my system to truly be ready.
All-in-all, this system is easily worth the price. Monitoring is not free. You currently have the option of two monthly monitoring plans that you can cancel at any time. Only difference I can see between the two plans is that one allows you the convenience of using the SimpliSafe smartphone app to arm and disarm the system and the other plan does not. Seemed like that should have been a default plan feature to me. There is no long term commitment. However, my plan seemed locked into the more expensive option of $24.99 per month by default and I have to call SimpliSafe to change my current plan settings.
So in summation: the safety is worth it and I like how easy it was to get he hardware setup. I wish the software had been a bit more straightforward, but so far the system works great and it can easily be expanded in the future.

These are easily the best headphones I have ever owned. The little details reproduced in music carryover wherever I am. They sound just as good in front of a window air conditioner as they do in a quiet room. These headphones are great for travel and come with a convenient travel pouch. Compared to the big and bulky over the ears headphones, these take up just a fraction of the space.
The Sony Headphones Connect App for the iPhone makes it easy to adjust sound quality settings. You can adjust the noise cancelling tech from within the app. Smart listening automatically detects your activity and adjusts the noise cancelling levels automatically. It’s all super easy to use.
The built in mic allows you to take phone calls. I had one person tell me I sounded a bit like I was in a tunnel (but then again the next person said I sounded great).
They have held their charge well. I wish they charged faster as they took a few hours to charge, but on a full charge they easily will last 9 - 10 hours.
Still, those are the only minor quibbles I have had so far and they are barely worth mentioning.
All-in-all, these headphones have been great and I highly recommend them. They will be my go to travel headphones for years to come.
