This disc documents the star-studded October 20, 2001, concert for victims of terrorist attacks known as The Concert for New York City. The disc offers a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are neither subtitles nor closed captions on this release. Although there are no supplemental materials of any consequence, the five-hour running time and array of rock's biggest superstars make this disc a near must-own for music lovers. Also included are short films from Kevin Smith, Woody Allen, and other directors.

Great Concert!!

I remember watching this live on TV. It was an amazing night. A time for America to get together and remember the victims of that horrible day. Many of the performances are here as well as the short films. The best being The Who.

On July 13, 1985, some of the biggest names in popular music joined forces on both sides of the Atlantic with one goal in mind -- to help end hunger and famine in Africa. A worldwide audience of 1.5 billion people watched the massive Live Aid concerts from London and Philadelphia on television, and ten hours of highlights from those shows are featured on this special home video collection. Live Aid includes exclusive live performances from Eric Clapton, U2, The Who, Sting, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Neil Young, and many, many more; a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this release will be donated to the Band Aid Trust, which continues to fund hunger relief in the Third World.

Great Concert

Some of the best performers from the 80's as well as the 70's and 60's get together for a concert on both sides of the Atlantic. While some of the acts are from the early MTV days and you might say "one hit wonders" others are legends. Almost the entire concert is here on 4 DVD's. Great piece of history for $15.
What's great about it: Some of the best performers from the 80's as well as the 70's and 60's.

A parody of Walk The Line
on May 3, 2008

This film is a parody of Walk The Line. John C. Reilly is terriffic as the fictional singer Dewey Cox. We follow his lifeas he meets people like Buddy Holly, Elvis and in a very funny scene Cox hangs out with the Beatles in India. Kinda like Forest Gump. The music is funny. If you like This Is Spinal Tap you will enjoy this film. Picture and sound is good.

On the first anniversary of the passing of George Harrison, a group of close friends (who also happened to be among the biggest names in rock music) staged a memorial concert with a camera crew on hand to record the proceedings. This documentary of the event gets a reverent presentation for its release on DVD. Concert for George has been transferred to disc in its original full-screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1. Viewers have a choice of two audio options, one in Dolby Digital 5.1 and another in DTS 5.1. The DVD release is a two-disc set, with one disc featuring the original theatrical cut of the film and the other offering uncut versions of the performances. The "theatrical cut" disc also features additional rehearsal performances, interviews with the artists, and unseen backstage footage.

Tribute to a Legend

An all star cast comes out to sing and remember George Harrison 1 year after his death. Eric Clapton acts as the band leader as performer after performer comes out to sing a Harrison classic. Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney performs at the end. Paul’s performance of "All Things Must Pass" is amazing. This concert is a must have for anyone that enjoys music.
RIP George.
Peace

Not a good McCartney album like Band On The Run or Flaming Pie but this disc has it's moments. Just a few of them. Dance Tonight and Ever Present Past are standard McCartney tunes. And Only Mama Knows is a bit of a rocker. Then there is Paul thinking about his mortality with End Of The End. But the rest is simply throw away. This disc is only for the die hard McCartney fan.

This concert, in conjunction with McCartney's album, is some of the best rock & roll with which the ex-Beatle has been involved in a number of decades -- roughly, it's a live parallel to his 1997 Flaming Pie release. Returning to his early '60s roots, he avoids even the hint of softer sounds in favor of a back-to-basics set -- there are some originals interspersed with the classics, but they all fit together well, and the band is a decidedly good one, at least allowing for the fact that the members are a bit long in the tooth: Mick Green, David Gilmour, Peter Wingfield, and Ian Paice, whose careers range across as long a period as McCartney's. His singing is still very solid (indeed, he sounds exactly the same doing "I Saw Her Standing There" as he did 36 years earlier), and everyone is enjoying themselves -- he even works in a dig at the Liverpool local government for having filled in the original Cavern Club in 1973 (this Cavern was established in 1984, when the tourist and revenue potentials were better understood by all). Additionally, the action is well-covered, with multiple camera angles that get the players in close-up at the right moments. The DVD comes with a several bonus features, most notable among them a 22-minute interview with McCartney, in which his reminiscences of the original Cavern are intercut with black-and-white archival footage, interspersed with several nicely chosen black-and-white clips from the concert at hand. McCartney is very funny throughout the extended talk, in which he ranges freely across his whole life and career, including reminiscences about John Lennon, and of the songs that he does at this show (which features recollections of Stuart Sutcliffe). The interview is nearly as much fun as the concert, and effectively doubles the value of the DVD. The sound is also good and loud, though one wishes that McCartney's Hofner violin bass were a little more forward in the mix.

Great Collection...so far
on May 1, 2008

A great collection of videos from McCartney's solo years. What keeps it from getting 5 stars is that not all his videos are included. I don't know why all of the videos were not included in this DVD box set? A good collection that could have been an amazing one. Still worth a look.
What's great about it: Many Videos
What's not so great: Not all Videos included

Only a decade after reuniting for the hugely successful Hell Freezes Over tour, The Eagles once again announce their dissolution, but not before playing another tour together. Winkingly referred to as the Farewell One Tour, Eagles: Farewell Tour -- Live From Melbourne captures one of the Australian stops on this tour. The set list contains most every song any fan would expect, including "Desperado," "Hotel California," and "Lyin' Eyes."

Richard Lester, who directed A Hard Day's Night and Help!, was the man behind the cameras for this documentary look at Paul McCartney's 1989-1990 world tour. McCartney and his band perform 20 songs spanning Macca's solo career as well as his years with the Beatles, including "Band on the Run," "Live and Let Die," "Coming Up," "Get Back," "I Saw Her Standing There," "Can't Buy Me Love," "The Long and Winding Road," and "Fool on the Hill."

Great Concert

I saw this show live twice in Chicago in 1989 and 1990. This is not the complete concert but includes most of the tracks. They are out of order from the set list. Also this was filmed at several concerts during the tour so the bands outfits change not just between songs but during them as well. But it is still the best concert DVD out there from McCartney. No interviews in between or during the songs. Just a straight forward concert like "Back in the USA" and "Space With In U.S." should have been.
What's great about it: DTS Audio
What's not so great: Not complete concert
