Spooky Metal A Go Go!
on July 25, 2008

This release from former Misfit lead guitarist, Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein is a MUST for Misfits fans. The music has a spooky, groovy, Metal boogie feel throughout. Rob Zombie fans will get a nice thrill out of Gorgeous Frankenstein due to the horror packaged theme, from the artwork on the digipak to the music itself. I feel this is Metal, not the punk stuff of legend that the Misfits are known for creating. Glen Danzig produces, and the entire mood and feel of the music is a tad raw and unpolished, just the way I like it. You are not getting pristine produced, elegantly arranged musical masterpieces here. For heaven sake, anyone who knows Misfits, Danzig or Osaka Popstar music knows what they are getting, a former Misfit legend who just wants to have a great time making fun music. Serious Classical and Symphony Orchestra listeners should shy away from this one. Gorgeous Frankenstein gets more enjoyable for me to listen to by the day, I am having fun with it, you will to.
What's great about it: Legendary Misfit Doyle with Danzig producing, yup, it's Metal!

This is "good times party" metal!!

Lynch Mob "Wicked Sensation" is a great disc to kick up your heels and party to, or go on a long ride and jam your ears with this delicious, melodic, Metal candy. You can definitely make a strong case that this type of Metal is relevant in 2008. Musically, this great stuff could have been released today and no one would really know the difference. "Wicked Sensation" is the single that was played on radio stations that matter, back in 1990. George Lynch really shreds on this one, he is the real deal. Mick Brown is the drummer (Dokken), and Oni Logan on lead vocals belts it out with a touch of swagger. These guys are fun to listen to and George Lynch is pure Metal guitar joy to the ears. Any Metalhead should buy this and enjoy this early 1990's Lynch Mob.
What's great about it: George Lynch is lead guitarist, lots of classic riffs & hooks, good old melodic metal

A jaw dropping metal onslaught!

Demiricous "One Hellbound" is incredibly great. Call Demiricous Thrash Metal or call them Death Metal, please understand, either way they are great Metal. These young dudes are carrying the Metal flag, representing how a new generation of thrashers understand and respect the genre. Demiricous are often at times very similiar musically to Slayer, and that is not a bad band to emulate. If you are a Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Cavalera Conspiracy fan or a fan of this genre, then this release is a MUST to own and devour. Nate Olp plays a great bass and has true to the music vocals. Ben Parrish makes quite a statement with his guitar lead. Scott Wilson (rhythm guitar) and Chris Cruz (drums) round out this European Thrash/Death machine. "One Hellbound" is brutally entertaining with the riffage and vocals tearing through each song like there is no tomorrow. I hope Demiricous stays tight for the next 30 years.
What's great about it: Extremely heavy and dark, new generation of thrash metal!

Iced Earth delivers the Metal fury here!
on July 22, 2008

This EP makes for a cool addition to any Iced Earth or metal collection. "Prophecy", "Birth of the Wicked", and "The Coming Curse" are songs that are found on the 1998 Iced Earth release "Something Wicked This Way Comes". Having Tim "Ripper" Owens" as the lead vocalist here is just fine with me, Matthew Barlow will alway's be a revered vocalist for Iced Earth just the same. The story telling brilliance of lead guitarist/bassist/founder Jon Schaffer along with his playing is what makes Iced Earth such a remarkable long standing metal band. "Overture of the Wicked" will give you four great metal songs to devour.
What's great about it: Jon Schaffer's writing genius and Tim "Ripper" Owens vocals

Power Metal at it's finest!

Helloween is in my opinion, one of the greatest Power Metal bands ever. Helloween always provides the listener with brilliant metal that is musically layered with awesome lyrics. That is what you are getting here with "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1". The speed at which Helloween plays at will impress any Metal fan. Helloween borders on the progressive side and this release is truly ahead of it's time. "Initiation" provides an eerie introduction, setting the stage for an enjoyable listen in Metal.
What's great about it: One of the greatest Power Metal bands ever, great lyrics and vocals.

Raging, dark, Metal fury!

Disturbed returns with what I feel is their heaviest release to date. "Indestructible" is a Metal thrill ride that is as ferocious as the title! There are many guitar solo's throughout being balanced out with great dark lyrics and a great melodic tone. The rhythm section plays tight together with unreal vocals from David Draiman. I feel Dan Donegan really makes his mark on "Indestructible", I simply cannot say enough about his excellent guitar work here. This is an exciting heavy release from Disturbed, I really recommend this being added to anyone's Disturbed or Metal collection.
What's great about it: Many guitar solo's, heavy throughout.

Vintage Overkill still thrashing today!
on July 16, 2008

This early 1990's Overkill release "Under the Influence" reminds us that thrash was alive and very well during this critical Heavy Metal period of time. Overkill has never compromised their music for any current trends, releasing this great album during the Grundge era. You will get what you are looking to hear from Overkill, rebellious and aggressive old school thrash from start to finish. All Overkill fans should own this and new thrash fans, well, welcome aboard!
What's great about it: Earlier Overkill thrashes hard

Raw and Aggressive, the way W.A.S.P. should be!
on July 15, 2008

This incredible W.A.S.P. release, "Helldorado" is an explosive old school Metal masterpiece that will be enjoyed by metalheads for centuries to come. The production is raw, with the overall sound giving off that old school Metal feel. This effort was not overproduced, and the end result is outstanding. Blackie Lawless and his gang do not let you catch your breath on "Helldorado", the Metal is aggressive and catchy with plenty of riffs and hooks to satisfy my W.A.S.P. Metal hunger. The intro on "Helldorado" is entertaining to say the least. Be careful not to play "Dirty Balls" around younger ears, for the intro to this tune is a bit explicit. I am not criticizing the song or Blackie in any way, just being upfront about having this song played unexpectedly when you do not want your kids to hear it. I adore W.A.S.P., you will adore "Helldorado".
What's great about it: The production is raw, old school Metal

A pretty cool greatest hits from Mr. Big.
on July 15, 2008
Posted by: Fiend
from Pennsylvania
Mr. Big mixes it up on their "Greatest Hits" with some Metal, "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy The Electric Drill Song", Hard Rock, "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" and soften it up with "To Be With You". Mr. Big went out of their way to make hits during their 13 year career and it is fitting they can put together a real cool collection of 17 hits. As musicians Mr. Big are really good, Billy Sheehan (bass) and Paul Gilbert (lead guitar) are highly respected. This "Greatest Hits" from Mr. Big will not disappoint any Hard Rock fan looking for a little mixture of musical moods to get you going.
What's great about it: A greatest hits, nice mix of Metal, Hard Rock & ballads.

A sweet collection of vintage hits from Sweet
on July 13, 2008
Posted by: Fiend
from Pennsylvania
If you do not own any Sweet, this is the ideal disc to get. This greatest hits includes the FM radio classics from the late 1970's: "Love Is Like Oxygen" , "Fox On The Run", and the often covered "Ballroom Blitz". These three songs make the purchase of this disc worth it. You are not getting Heavy Metal or Hard Rock here, just a darn good Rock & Roll band from the 1970's that will continue to influence Rock musicians for years to come. Sweet will keep you grounded on a Rock & Roll landscape that is worth checking into.
What's great about it: Greatest hits package that has all the key Sweet songs.
