The best fighting game going around

I downloaded the online version for updating super SF4 and I have to say it is just excellent. The four new chars (Oni, Evil Ryu, Yun and Yang) plus the old set of chars totally rebalanced is awesome. Extremely solid game play (as usual in the serie), rebalance and improved online (lag reduced) just make it the best fighting game in the market. If you like fighting games, you want to buy this one. And if you already have super SF4, just download the online version for a fraction of the money.

Amazing fighting game (with reserves)
on May 4, 2011

Long time without playing any MK. I used to be a fan of MKs 1 and 2 before I left the series. Time will tell if MK9 is broken or not, but as a fan of SF4 series and MvC3, what can I say, so far it is amazing.
The game is plenty of offline contents and challenges, what is greatly appreciated in a genre that normally lacks contents more than abuses them. As you advance in completing each one and also by winning combats, you earn money for buying many kinds of unlockables, including fatalities, storyboards, new skins for each char and much more.
Fighting mechanic is pretty easy to get, moves just go out without too much technical issues, but performing a high-stamina damaging combo requires some skills and practice. Even in this case, anybody will get it with some few hours on the joystick. The 5.1 sound sensation is excellent and graphics and scenarios are first class (much better that any other fighting game I played), but interaction with chars during contact and hits has some glitches; even when distracting, it is not detracting to the whole fighting experience (at least for me, different kind of opinions along my friends). So far the fight is good, but if you are a fan of fighting games you will note sooner than later that the gaming is simpler and less demanding than other games, like SF4 and MvC3. In MK it is more important to know when to use a move rather than making the move itself. Difficulty is not that hard, even in expert; some hours on the game and you will defeat the worst of the rivals.
Moves and fatalities have a special mention; they are depicted in a very brutal way; also, each char finishes a combat with a lot of heals and blood. In summary, the game has a lot of gore content. Consider this in the decision if you are going to buy the game for your kids; most will consider it is not appropriate for children.
A pending matter is the behavior of the game online. As PSN is down for already 2 weeks, I can´t say nothing about. What I read is that sells were more than expected and that some saturation and lag was present online. I can’t say more by now.
In summary, being or not a fan of the series, the game itself is very rewarding for me. Just a personal opinion, so consider carefully that you may not be in agreement if you have some issues with the series. Not my case.
What's great about it: Graphics, sound, plenty of contents, easy learning curve
What's not so great: Fighting mechanic, interaction with chars

Excellent for kids

I wrote this review based mostly on my kids´ opinion, as I didn’t play this game quite much. Pretty similar mechanic than the first LBP, easier and shorter to finish, but this one improves over the previous version in graphics and gameplay. The design section for building new environments is much friendly than before, making things much easier to make. My kids spend hours and hours playing this game and building all kind of stuff both online and offline. Online play is very smooth.
If you never played this game, it is about fabric toys walking, jumping and hanging any kind of objects to get the goal, capturing objects and bonus balls while running to the end of each level. Many objects can be used once collected to get the goal. Very entertaining game and also fast-mind requiring as some challenges get the best of us.
It supports as much as 4 players, being an ideal game for family. And besides being a game more orientated for kids, any adult can spend awesome time playing this game.

I have to say I am a bit dissapointed with this sequel of the first Bioshock. This second trial is good, but not same quality as before. Levels are shorter and I have a sense of lack of quality overall, if that's the proper expresion. Killing your enemies take a lof of ammo, and that means you ran out quite often playing in difficult, which is not good. Game is set to be more focus on traps and an intelligent gaming to kill your enemies, but having no bullets to do so spoil the attempt.
The game didnt change the playing mechanic, so you will find same stile than Bioshock 1. Game is quite precise and polished even when some bugs are present, but nothing serious as to be an annoying issue.
Story is OK, but just so.
As result, I am not so complain to finish as I was with other games, including of course the first Bioshock.
My opinion: a good FPS but I wouldn't spend more than $30 for this one, even when I bought it at full price.
What's great about it: Remblance of the first bioshock, precise gaming
What's not so great: Run out of ammo often, not same quality than first Bsh

Have to start saying that I never played any NFS before. This is my first one and I enjoyed it a lot. Graphics are amazing, sound is so realistic and gameplay is awesome for me. Controls are a kind of hard but just get accustom to the joystick. My personal opinion is that this is a good game and deserves a 5 for me. Have in mind that I am not the biggest fan of race games, this is my second one so far beyond Gran Turismo 5.
What's great about it: online, graphics, sound, fun
What's not so great: kinda hard to drive with a joystick

Huge improvements!!
on May 5, 2010

I am playing SFIV from about 1 year ago and my first question with this one is that it worth the Price. I finally bought it a week ago and definitely worth the change.
GENERAL
Graphics and scenarios are good, and sound rocks in a 5.1.
The game is extremely well balanced; you can see it right after starting playing. No overpowered characters and similar chances of winning just depending upon how good you are.
On the other hand, controls are quite difficult to execute in a regular PS3 control. Better to buy the arcade stick, but you have to spend the 150+ bucks. I did not do it and I finally got good with the regular one, but still suffering when trying to learn new characters.
Online gaming is addicting once you get the point. I can spend hours playing online. Also you can play as less as 15 min, so I use this game as a stress-release.
Some friends didnt like the cartoon-kind-of-graphics. Not a problem for me.
My oppinion: one of my favorites games!!! If you liked previous SFs this is the one for you.
COMPARED WITH SFIV
Ultra well balanced. You can note this just by noting that there is no more cheap movements. In SFIV you could see many gamers that just do a couple of cheap movements to win a battle (is mythical the hard kick from Sagat, e.g.), now that possibility is gone if you know how to play.
New ultras and some polishing in movements makes all characters improved.
All characters are unlocked now; you have a lot of characters to chose and 8 new ones that are a mass. I did not get that advantage over the previous version due to I did not like all characters, so a lot of them remains unlocked.
Improved on line playing allows you to fight any character in the world with a minimal lag the worst. A huge improvement compared with the old SFIV. Also new modes for online gaming are a huge improvement. You can also see other matches in your own screen. Repetitions are much easier to look up and faster too. The only bad thing I see is that the old championship mode is gone, but the new system combines both championship and one-to-one gaming in a new and effective mix.
Buy this one and you never will go back to the previous version.
OVERAL
An excellent fighter. If you like fighting games definitely this is one you have to own. You wont regret it. On the other hand, if you did not liked SFIV you wont like this one, it is pretty much the same even when I see huge improvements.
And if you have the old SFIV I recommend you to spend the 40+ bucks. I did it and don’t regret it at all!!!
What's great about it: Balance, movements, fun, online
What's not so great: Still quite difficult to execute controls in a reg control, minor lags, championship mode gone
I would recommend this to a friend!

The game is great and IMHO it keeps the quality of COD4. Graphics and sound are the best, perfect for a 42” screen and a 5.1 sound system. I just completed the basic story and started playing online. The game system is pretty similar to that of COD4, so you will find it familiar. I liked the story, even when it is short, but not that bad, not different from the length of COD4, about 9 hours of playing (so don’t be surprised, you won’t find a bigger game here). For me, still worth the 60 bucks. I played from the beginning in difficult (I always do that) and I defeated without too much problems. Difficulty was ok, maybe a bit easier than COD4, but if you are an expert in COD4 it is not very unlikely that you would finish the game in about 5-7 hours. Some stages are too short and left you wishing for more, like at the very beginning with the big machine gun up in the humbee, shooting enemies for about 30 seconds and then to the floor, and then you saying “that’s all? I want more!!!”. Also I found some bugs that are not serious but ruins some of the effects of the game: dogs and enemies doing stupid thinks and getting stuck (you know, going back and forward very quickly), and aiming with the sight of a sniper rifle in the side of the target and the bullet hit the guy anywhere, and the opposite, aiming to the target and bullets don’t hit him. Continuity has some flaws, like your partner is coming after you and then he is waiting for you ahead (similar finding than killzone II, but not that bad). Even so, the game is well polished and the whole experience is quite intense. I have to admit that I miss the intense battles found in killzone II, I did not find that big and intense battles here.
The online is awesome, I can’t tell you too much about it because I am a pretty new player, but so far it is amazing.
So, I give the game a solid 5. It deserves a buy.
What's great about it: Graphics, sound, fun, game itself
What's not so great: some bugs, short game, short individual campains some times

Still very good FPS

Still a good FPS. Price is ok, the variety and design of weapons is spectacular and you can carry a very large number of weapons that will help you all around the game. Action is quite intense and the game will keep you busy at all times. Checkpoints are not quite frequent so if you lose you will have to start all over again, making the game quite compelling for good or bad (I enjoyed it, but some guys did not). Coop is amazing and makes the game quite more easy to defeat. You believed or not, I enjoyed more than Resistance 2. Even so there is evident differences with call of duty and killzone 2, so the game deserves a solid 3. No 4, sorry, but what you will get with this one woth the 29.90. And will keep you gessing how good is R2. Enjoy.
What's great about it: Good price, solid gaming, weapons, coop mode
What's not so great: old game, first one from insomniac

Compelling fighter
on November 18, 2009
Posted by: DMC
from Phi
I quite agree with several comments from other people. After thinking about a score of 4 or 5, I finally decided the game deserves a 5, even with the less the game has. Street fighter is a good fighting game IMHO, having some flags that, should be solved the game is more enjoyable.
As disadvantages, graphics are not the best; in fact I am rather disappointed with this item. I read several revisions that highlighted graphics but they are just ok for me, solids but barely in the quality edge for a PS3, nothing outstanding, neither the introduction nor ending videos of each character, not even scenarios. Do not expect so much in this regard. Also movements and combos are pretty difficult to execute in a regular joystick (in fact I rejected to play with some characters due controls are impossible, I am not going to buy the $100+ for the good specialized control). Even so, after some practice you will do fine with most characters.
Besides that, the game was addictive for me once I defeated the last boss for first time in normal and after starting playing online. I am still a pretty new player, so I am just cumulating points at this time. I agree in what I read before, some players are just using same technique over and over again, but that’s a classic, you always find this kinda players in combat games, just find the way and accumulate points after defeat them. Expertise of opponents is also quite variable, I found people with low score but very good players and others with high scores than just perform a good movement over and over again.
The game is spectacularly balanced. You can play with a strong but slow guy that have great problems getting close to a quicker opponent and even crossing fireball and the like, but once close he does a lot of damage to his enemy and in few movements the combat is wan. And in the other hand some very fast but less damaging ones. Every movement can be contra-attacked with another one in each character, movement priority is well analyzed and the whole think make the game look very polished and fluid. Some kinda you have idem possibilities of winning with every character if you know what to do. I do not remember a combat game so well polished, so this is a great favorable plus and the final “5” is heavily influence on this comment and the following: I did found no a minimal bug in the entire game, nothing less expected from Konami. And the game is spectacular when you just have a short period of time for playing.
I did not find the problem that you have to use repetitive effective movements to defeat your opponents in very hard. Playing as usual (I mean realy fighting, not just repetitive movements) I did a good job, I do not like the idea of one repetitive movement. Even the last boss can be defeated in this way and in very hard. Not a problem for me, just rather hard to do it, but possible (and I have to admit that I am not the best player you can find, just average)
As conclusion, after an initial disappointment I can say I now enjoy the game, a few combats every day, stress gone and ready for diner. My opinion: get it.
What's great about it: Balance, characters, no bugs
What's not so great: difficult to learn controls, difficult to execute controls, graphics

Very good FPS
on November 5, 2009
Posted by: DMC
from Phi
Killzone II IMHO is a very good FPS but still not so good as to defeat COD. Graphics are outstanding, the best you can find in a PS3, but that seems to slow down thinks a little bit. So at the time you cross thru a break point, the game will freeze a few tenths of seconds (can be several dozen of tenths, sometimes) to load data and save information. I think this is understandable taking into consideration that this is a game that takes so much from our equipment, but it is still bothering when you are so concentrated in the game. Also the story has some flags in the continuity, like you are the first entering the scene and then a few meters ahead there is a full square waiting for you, or just your computerized partner is badly injured and then he is waiting for you ahead. Aiming also requires some adjustment of the options, because by default is quite slow and it makes difficult to aim somebody, so controls have to be fixed in the fastest possible way. The last thing to comment is that enemies do some stupid thinks sometimes instead of starting shooting you, even some funny ones, making evidence of some bugs going around the game. Besides these flags, this is a very good quality FPS and that makes it very enjoyable, action is quite intense and battles can make you die quite often (at least for somebody with my level of expertise). I don’t care too much about the use of foul language, I think it fits the nature of the game. Graphics and sound are the best, and the game is quite variable in nature (the most enjoyable thing for me was the use of big machine guns). So as a conclusion, the game is not COD4 but it is quite similar in essence, seeming to need a bit of polishing with some items. Even so, this is a must for a PS3 lovers of a good FPS.
What's great about it: Best graphics and sound, enjoyable game
What's not so great: lack of polishing, control needs fixing before playing

Best none first person shooter game?

I love first person shooter games except they make me dizzy and sick to my stomache so I would like to know what are the better ones out there that aren't first person shooter?
depends of your taste. Little big planet is a mass, even when is make for children is enjoyable at all ages. Uncharted 2 is a mass but it is a third person shooter so may be is pretty similar to what you are trying to avoid. Need for speed is also a good game if you like cars. And I love Street fighter 4 but you will be worse than with a FPS!! too much action. These are the best going around there as far as I know. I am going to buy godd of war 3 (RPG), but I still can tell you nothing. My opinions, check reviews about every one if you like a different opinion.
