Metallica are a band known for not doing things half way, and when they set out to make a live album, they did it on an epic scale. Metallica: Live Sh*t -- Binge and Purge is a mammoth box set which on features a complete three hour concert recorded in Mexico City 1993 on compact disc, and on home video adds two more shows in their entirety -- San Diego in 1992, and Seattle in 1989. If that wasn't enough, the package also comes with an extensive souvenir booklet, a Metallica stencil, a replica of a "snakepit pass" from the 1992-93 tour, and more. Eight and a half hours of Metallica at the peak of their form, Metallica: Live Sh*t -- Binge and Purge is the ultimate live set from one of America's most consistently innovative hard rock bands.

Although given a lukewarm reception by critics and the public upon its release, The Thing, like so many of John Carpenter's films, has since acquired a fiercely loyal cult following, and MCA Home Video will have fans of the chilly sci-fi horror in rapture with this outstanding reissue DVD. Originally released in 1998, this Collector's Edition is an exact replica of the previous disc, except for the chilly slipcase packaging. Picture-wise, the film's immaculate whites and cold blues are clean and sharp, and the polar landscapes are awe-inspiring in widescreen. Carpenter is renowned for his inventive use of sound effects and music, and the Dolby 5.1 Audio truly heightens the film's suspense. There is also a mind-boggling array of extra features on the DVD. The theatrical trailer, production notes, and biographies of Carpenter and star Kurt Russell are welcome, but they pale in comparison to most of the other additions. The production archives section, for example, is an extensive combination of text and photos that concentrates on Rob Bottin's eye-popping special effects, and equally interesting is the production art showing early designs of the alien creature. The background archive will interest would-be screenwriters, as it uses pages from the original draft to show how the film took shape. Of the countless other bits and pieces, the outtakes section is surest to please confirmed fans, even though the stills and deleted scenes here are of a mainly expository nature (though at least one deleted scene will delight fans of the movie's sardonic humor). Yet even if it had none of the aforementioned special features, this would be an essential DVD due to the commentary track and 80-minute documentary "Terror Takes Shape". The latter, featuring contributions from all the main players, is an utterly engrossing background to the conception and production of The Thing, and also includes spectacular stop-motion footage that was not used in the final version. The commentary by Carpenter and Russell, meanwhile, is a winning blend of astute analysis and warm recollection that is always enjoyable and occasionally hilarious. This is a wonderful DVD package that will give pleasure to even casual fans of the film.

Chucky and Tiffany are back, and this time they've got an extra hand to help out with the murderous mayhem as offspring Glen lends a hand in skewering Hollywood -- quite literally -- in the latest installment of Don Mancini's Child's Play series. In addition to an uncut 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and a selection of either English (closed-captioned) or French Dolby Digital 5.1 audio as well as English DTS 5.1 audio with optional Spanish and French subtitles, this release also offers a variety of bonus materials for the rabid Chucky fan. Follow everyone's favorite psychotic doll in a "Family Hell-iday Slideshow" that must be seen to be believed, and once you've returned safely to the comfort of your couch, take a look behind the scenes at two decades of Chucky movies in the featurette "Conceiving the Seed of Chucky." Fans of sultry Seed of Chucky starlet Jennifer Tilly will no doubt enjoy the inclusion of her video diary as seen on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and in addition to a written diary, gorehounds can also access "Fuzion Up Close with the Seed of Chucky Stars," in which Chucky and Tiffany speak candidly about life as a Hollywood couple, and a feature commentary track with director Mancini and star Tilly. Bonus materials included in this uncut edition but not available in the R-rated release include "Chucky's Insider Facts on Demand" featuring over 150 trivia facts about the pint-sized killer, a deleted scene, an interview with Chucy that also includes an early screen test, and an additional commentary track in which director Mancini is joined by puppet master Tony Gardner.

Jeff Burr's Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III has never been looked too kindly upon, for all the right reasons -- funny then that New Line gave this such a grand DVD release. For a terribly flawed sequel to one of the seminal horror films of 1970s, the extras included on the disc are staggering. For starters, gore fans should be happy to know that both the rated and unrated cuts appear on the disc, so all of KNB's effects can now be seen digitally for the first time (the unrated VHS has been available for years). For those not familiar with the history of the film, the R-rated version is a complete mess and this DVD will tell you why. Often remembered for delivering little of the red stuff in the theatrical cut, here you can dig into two documentaries and one commentary on the hows and whys of the third film's turbulent production. From the infamous MPAA battles to New Line themselves sabotaging the film through their desperate need for another horror franchise (A Nightmare on Elm Street 5 had just come out and bombed), the fate of Leatherface is mapped out extensively through various candid interviews that fill the disc. From horror scribe David Schow to the many bits with director Burr, everyone featured has stories which paint a picture of a truly hindered production. The film itself is presented in its original 1.85:1 widescreen picture, while the audio benefits greatly from the remastered Dolby Digital EX 5.1 and DTS ES 6.1 Surround Sound tracks. To be sure, time was put into this release, as evidenced by the blood-red menus and the inclusion of an alternate ending and probably one of the best modern horror trailers out there -- the Lady of the Lake teaser for the film (which you get to hear the full story behind in the meat of the extras). If there's anything annoying about the disc, it's that the commentary track consists of the very same interviews which make up the lengthy "The Saw is Family: Making of Leatherface" documentary. With no scene-specific discussion, you end up sifting through a lot of the same talk repeatedly between the main two features of the DVD -- plus look out for Burr's comments on the chainsaw in the film, because you'll hear the exact same audio clip of it more than once! Gripes aside, New Line most assuredly should be praised for giving such high treatment to such horror dreck for which they themselves are partly to blame.

It seems that korn just seems to get worse and worse every album. Don't get me wrong I love their first two albums, but after that I feel it all kind of went to S**t. I mean the 3rd was tollerable. But the forth was just awful. The untouchables wasn't far from that either. Now I must say I did kind of like take a look in the mirror, speaking as a metal head. But then they made untitled and that just was awful, just awful. And now this album is just "pethedic" and "Stupid". They really need to go back to doing heavy stuff, cause really, in my opinion, it doesn't sound good with anyone. I think that this is just a series of albums that are gonna keep getting worse and worse, until they realize they need to stick to heavyness.

why do you critize awesome metal bands/albums
July 18, 2010
i first noticed you saying good stuff about metal bands but in my opinon you are not as open to new music as me you called the world needs a hero by megadeth a dry album which i totally disagree with you stop hating on metal bands and metal music
The album is ok, but it is nothing I would really rave about. It is, in my opinion, probeblly the "dryist" Megadeth album. There wasn''t really anything magical about it. But it's not awful, it's just not magical at all, magical meaning: the solos are bland, the music itself is bland. I don't think I would recomend this album to a friend. If you have to choose between this and another megadeth album, I strongly suggest you choose the other one, cause this album is by far the worst album, as far as the music goes.

This album is a break from the Coldplay normal, but not all breaks are bad. I like this album for its innovation in sound and creativity. No two tracks are the same either. In terms of price though, this album is one of those "almost-rip-offs" because it only has 10 tracks on it.

actually 12 songs if you include the hidden tracks
July 27, 2010
you misscounted theirs only 12 songs on the album if you include the two hidden tracks
This sounds like a cross between R.I.P. and S.F.S.G.S.W. only a little better. The only thing thats lacking is the drums. They are very good but lack the style and creativity that only Menza had. This has to be one of the best CD's of 2009.

shawn drover is in the same league as nick menza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also listened to the whole album on Kid's facebook and it is awesome! He went a total different route with this album leaving his twisted brown trucker band behind. It's a little country and rock but the cd takes on a total different feel from his previous work. So go out and support this album you won't be dissapointed!
