Breath of the Wild isn’t a game I can say does new things. It’s a game I can say does things better. There’s a polish here in the gameplay department that doesn’t redefine, but instead outshines all before it. An open world so perfectly adjusted, so meticulously balanced, and so inviting to everyone of all skill types is the new Zelda. While I will miss some of the old traditions, I welcome this new breath of fresh wilderness. Thus, the game was named perfectly for what it is, even if its framerate and story don’t top the traditions it left behind. Here’s to another five year wait to see what’s next.

As a person who enjoys combat in action games (a la The Witcher 3, Dark Souls III, Monster Hunter, etc.), this game's pretty graphics are just the winning smile. Underneath that smile is some personality, mostly in the combat aspects. Taking on mechanical beasts is thrilling and fun, and when you use all of the tools the game provides you, you start to feel like a total bada**. Before you know it, you WELCOME the fights, and it all becomes an explosive and engaging experience. Couple that with the winning smile, and you have a world you want to explore and hunt in. The only thing I provide fair warning of is that the story is poorly paced, and let's just say you'll go from knowing almost nothing to essentially everything all at once in the end-game. It's an odd climb in the story narrative, but perhaps partially a fault of being an open-world game where player pacing cannot be controlled. Otherwise, you get that winning smile and personality, and if you're on the PS4 Pro like I am, that smile has got some really shiny pearly whites!

While the RTS genre has largely been replaced in popularity by the MOBA genre, I'm glad to see Microsoft release this title against the dying popularity of its genre. The game is a solid RTS, though it lacks the trifecta (per se) of the StarCraft series, lending more to a focus on Leader Powers (powers you can use from your camera perspective that target anywhere you want that aren't tied to a unit's action) than playing to your "race's" strengths. Since there are only two sides, and both share a large portion of their unit strategies with only a handful of real differentiation, large-scale (and ultimately longer match) battles get to be a bit on the boring side. This is remedied by several modes, opting for quick matches of sheer strategy and all-out chaos, but I do only recommend fans of the RTS genre to give this game a chance. If you're not into this sort of game, this one won't change your mind!
Mass Effect: Andromeda is an upcoming action role-playing third-person shooter video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Although it shares the universe of the original trilogy, the title is considered a game derived, not the fourth episode of the saga.

After putting in nearly 50 hours, I can solidly say that "gamers" have got this one all wrong. This game is not a zero or even a five out of ten. The hyperbole and angle that these "gamers" have tried to make popular do not actually represent the product: the Metacritic critic review score aggregate is far more accurate. It's a solid game universe with solid combat mechanics, and contains many enjoyable aspects from colonization to quests to loyalty missions with 1000s of lines of dialogue that range from cheesy to college humor. The characters grow on you, and there's a silver lining to the cheeseball humor in that it surprises you with little blurbs of character between squadmates YOU pick to take into the field with you! It has its shares of technical foibles, one cannot deny that, but barring the technical shortcomings and glitches, what's underneath has a big heart, one that "gamers" cannot appreciate behind their agenda.
Now includes the 4v4 Ghost War PvP mode. In Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, the Santa Blanca drug cartel has transformed the beautiful country of Bolivia into a perilous narco-state, leading to lawlessness, fear, and rampant violence. With their corrosive influence growing, the cartel is set to bring this entire country to ruin. But all hope is not lost. You and your elite team of Ghosts must infiltrate and destroy the deadly cartel to save Bolivia, and its people, from total collapse. Set in a massive open world, you have total freedom of choice; every decision made affects the world around you. You decide how to play.

The sense that going guns blazing can get you downed easily in this game rewards a more slow, stealthy approach. Despite this, going guns blazing and explosions exploding can be faster and just as rewarding from an enjoyment standpoint, even more so with friends! In fact, due to the possibility of things going south when you go in guns blazing with your friends is often the source of some serious laughter and stupidity! Buckle up (literally), grab a friend or two, and prepare for a good time whether you're a stealth master sniper or a pyromaniac!
As your opponent moves toward you, you know you can take him. Sure he looks tough, but there are telling signs of his weaknesses and you know you can knock him out with just a few quick jabs. As he reaches back, ready to throw the first punch, it's as though you're seeing the world in slow motion. His footing is unstable. His chest is exposed. You dart out of the way and throw him to the ground in one swift motion. You live for this feeling. Enter a world created by the same developer that brought you the Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man and Devil May Cry franchises. What we have here is the Star Wars Battlefront problem. The core game is a good one, and it's polished to boot both gameplay wise and visually when lag isn't present. What it doesn't have is enough content. Not. Even. Close. While naturally more content will be added via DLC, paid and free, I will say the same thing I said with Stars Wars Battlefront: if you're a Street Fighter lover, you probably already bought this game. If you're not, you'll want to stay away until it's significantly cheaper. With games like Mortal Kombat X and Killer Instinct providing far better value-per-dollar, I can't recommend Street Fighter V at full price.

All things considered, Halo 5 is a diamond. It's polished gameplay practically melts you into its insane shootouts, whether with AI or other human players. It maintains this with a rock-solid 60 frames-per-second which helps prevent you from blinking. But this diamond has some flaws, and while a less-than-stellar draw distance and inefficient story-telling don't quite ruin the experience, they hold the latest Halo iteration back from the near-perfection it almost had.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is a step in the right direction, but not quite anything more than just a step. While it feels more refined, and takes a page out of Assassin's Creed II in its historical presentation and likeable character development, it continues to forget what makes Assassin's Creed lore so important: the modern day. Reliving history is the key to our future, and not progressing that factor and only giving us cinematic tidbits and a cliffhanger ending to the current day situation are disappointing. But in terms of being in Victorian London? It's the most beautifully crafted digital London ever, generally smooth and fun albeit clunky to navigate, stealth stabbing is also as rewarding as ever, and there's enough to do to keep a person occupied for a long time.
