Does this provide a true impedance measurement or does it use an algorithm to calculate the fat %, bone mass, etc. based on height and weight?
It measures through impedance, since you need to be in bare foot while step in the scale, plus the holders, to close the circuit.

What makes the receiving voice garbled?
When someone is speaking to me, their voice sounds garbled, like under water.
It could be either too high volume on handset, saturating the speaker of the earpiece, or eventual problem with the bluetooth reception of the device.

how many hours of talk time do you get using this device
It states that gives you around 6 hours. If you use the remote base, it extends to even more.
