If the power is out for just a couple minutes and then comes on again, will this be sufficient to hold?
not sure what you are trying to keep going but I have it hooked up to my LG 55 inch TV and cable box and internet modem and router and it will hold for at least 5 minutes , this is the limit so far from my experience.

what wire going in to tv do I use ? and do I need anything else besides the cable box,, I have Comcast,,, that's right im a dummy. Do they make a instruction book for dummies
All you should need is an HDMI cable to go from cable box to tv , and enough power outlets for both units.
