Bought this on sale as a cheap system recovery drive. I didn't really care about the speed since I was going to make a recovery drive, label it, and hopefully never use it again. I was very surprised! Read and write speeds are very fast. Reads in the range of 100-120Mb/s and writes in the range of 30-50Mb/s. Ended up using it as a data transfer drive instead, works really well and very reliably.

Really Clean Teeth!

I've been using the Philips Sonicare 6100 for about a week now. Combined with a whitening toothpaste it does a terrific job controlling coffee stains, much better than manual brushing. I had switched back to manual brushing after my old electric died. After several weeks my teeth didn't feel really clean and I was starting to show the effects of a serious coffee habit. There really is quite a difference.
I really like this particular model. It has all the features I wanted and would actually use.
- Slim, easy to manuever handle.
- Three modes for cleaning, whitening, or gum care. The modes are really run time settings.
- Three intensities, which you can set once the brush is on (the mode button becomes the intensity button when the Sonicare is running). It's really nice to be able to reduce the intensity around that sensitive tooth, or increase it when you're trying to get the caramel off.
- Pressure sensor that alerts you that you are pressing too hard. This is really useful in combination with the switchable intensities.
- Quadpacer which tells you when to brush a different quarter of your mouth. Nice to have a signal how long to brush a segment, especially if you tend to brush too quickly.
- Nice travel case.
- Three modes for cleaning, whitening, or gum care. The modes are really run time settings.

There is also a 'Brushsync' pairing, which detects a chip in the (newer) heads and automagically sets the suggested mode and intensity. It also helps monitor the brush lifetime. I found this to be the one gimmick I could easily live without. Fortunately, the (much less expensive) non-chip heads can be used without any issue.
Compared to the Oral-B, Sonicare is quieter and the battery lasts longer (I've been brushing 3 times a day for the past week on the same charge). Whether it does a better job seems to be a matter of personal preference. I have tightly spaced teeth and the Sonicare seems to get into the crevices better, so for me, this is it.
Highly recommended, especially over manual brushing.

Excellent Business Presentation Projector

This Epson projector is a great presentation projector, and is also a capable video projector. It is capable in any role from the solo visiting presenter to enterprise class presentations. While it's not really a home theater projector, it's no slouch in that role either. It offers multiple methods to display content using a computer, smartphone, or memory stick as a source device.

The image quality is absolutely first rate. The image is very bright, sharp, with deep, saturated colors. Projection in a conference room with the lights on was perfectly acceptable. There is an 'eco' setting which reduces the brightness, which worked well in smaller or darkened conference rooms.
The menu system is very easy to navigate and very intuitive. The buttons on the projector are double duty, depending on whether you're navigating a setup/configuration menu or presenting, which minimizes the clutter. Or you can use the remote. The remote can double as a wireless mouse during presentations (NOTE: I'm a PC guy and this is a PC thing).
Wired connections are HDMI, VGA, Discrete A/V, and USB-B. The USB-B uses a proprietary Epson display driver (Mac&PC) so that they can control the projector from the computer and drive the display. This is a one time driver thing. There is a wireless option which is actually pretty cool. The projector can act like a local access point for 'quick' connections, or it can join an existing wireless network. This will significantly reduce the setup fumbling time for those multi-presenter presentations. This works with computers and smartphones.
One really nice feature is the ability to plug in a memory stick with jpegs or avi's and play them directly. No computer required. If you're simply presenting pictures, like a travelog, memorial, or simply a photo-share, this makes it really easy. The photos can be advanced on demand or by timer.
The fan is pretty quiet, and the projector doesn't put out a lot of heat. The built in speaker is adequate for speech presentation, but that's about it.
In terms of portability, size, connectivity, and of course presentation quality, this projector will be hard to beat. It scales very well in uses from small single presenters to multi presenter (and even multi location presenter) applications. Good job Epson! Recommended!

Good Home Security System, But Contract Necessary

This is a decent home security system that seems to work very well with pets. We have two small dogs who don't seem to set off the motion sensors, although we do. It was easy (dare I say simple) to install and connect. I would guess it took no more than a half hour including setting up a monitoring plan.
The Shield kit contains enough sensors to secure a large house against break-ins, but does not contain the fire or water sensors. The hardware is attractive and appears to be very robustly built. The system uses proprietary communications and does not interoperate with or control other vendors hardware, such as Honeywell, Arlo, Samsung, Nest, or Phillips. It has both wifi and cellular backhaul for monitoring, battery backup on the base station, and a reasonably intuitive control panel. There is no 'panic' button on the control panel. There is a 'duress' PIN that you can enter if you are being forced to disable the alarm. If either the control panel or base unit is smashed, the alarm is sent.
There are two levels ($15/mo and $25/mo) of monitoring. Both include professional monitoring, but the more expensive one enables smartphone alerts and control. The base system can't be used for self-monitoring (notification and control on a smartphone) without the more expensive plan. Without a plan, the system is simply an old-fashioned alarm system; The alarm will sound in your house, but there is no notification. With the less expensive plan, the Simplisafe monitoring team will notify the police or fire department, but you will not receive a smartphone notification. In order to enable smartphone control and notifications, you must subscribe to the more expensive plan.
There are several nice features of the Simplisafe plan. You can stop and restart it on a month by month basis at any time, so it can be enabled for vacations or other times when the home is unoccupied. After 11 months of continuous monitoring, you get the 12th month free. And finally, there is no per device charge, the monthly charge is the monthly charge.
Conclusion
Is this the system for you? If you are looking for a self monitored system, or one that will integrate with other vendors' hardware, then there are probably better solutions for you. But if you are looking for an all in one package with simple installation, smart phone integration, and a professionally monitored service with a relatively low monthly cost, Simplisafe should be a top consideration.

Good Household Computer

The HP Envy Desktop is a really fast, capable computer for the home office. Equipped with an Intel I7-7700 and 16 gig of ddr4 ram, wireless-AC, Bluetooth 4.2, and USB 3.0 ports, it is well protected against obsolescence for the foreseeable future. The case is a mostly metal standard mini-tower, although the picture makes it look smaller. The door in the front hides a DVD reader/writer. A nice touch is that it comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse (not Bluetooth) and a small dedicated wireless USB dongle. The keyboard is compact, with chiclet style keys and a not quite standard key layout. It was quite comfortable to use and the 'wireless' cuts down on the wires snaking across the desk. I've attached a picture of it below a standard 104 keyboard for reference.
The 16Gig Optane disk cache really speeds up disk operations. Bootup is extremely quick, and file operations are extremely fast. The Optane cache acts like a non-volatile (retains memory on power down) ultra high speed 16GB file store between memory and the hard disk. It 'learns' which files you use most frequently and really speeds up disk access.
The Intel HD630 graphics are adequate for most office applications (word, excel, quicken, turbotax, etc), web browsing and video playback. For gaming, video editing, or graphic design, you'll want to add a dedicated video card.
Setup was super easy and fast. Initial boot was really fast, go through the usual question round from Microsoft, then on to the update round. I want to note that I did have a problem with the Windows updates, and HP Support was absolutely stellar in getting me around it and back up and running.
There is a lot of bloatware, mostly Windows apps and games, although it's easily removed. The HP support utilities (help, update) are actually quite useful and a welcome addition.
There are really only two downsides to this system. The location of the USB, headphone, and SD card slot on the top facing away from the user are really awkward to use. It's nice not having to reach around to the back of the computer, but the location is really a poor design choice. The small power supply (300W) cuts down on energy consumption, but really limits video card addition. Anything more than a bottome end video card (ie., Nvidia GTX1030) will require that the power supply be upgraded to a more substantial supply.
These are minor annoyances with a fine system. All in all, a well constructed, really fast office workstation for home use and basic graphic applications backed by an excellent support team.

Really Great Sound, a Few Small Annoyances

The sound quality is excellent, absolutely stellar; Clear highs, good bass, and excellent sonic clarity. You can listen to complex passages and pick out details without any muddying. Comfort is good, pretty typical for ear buds. The whole package is very light and doesn't feel like it's dragging out of your ears. There is a small slide on the cable to allow you to cinch up the excess cable to keep it from flopping around. Sound isolation is surprisingly good, considering these do not have active noise cancellation. Build quality is quite substantial, they should last a long time.
Bluetooth pairing was quick and easy, no problems. I tried out pairing to two devices and it worked! One very nice touch, there are voice prompts for everything. Both the advertised 6 hr battery life and the 1.5 hr charge time seem to be correct. I didn't try out the (Android) app extensively, but it does control the headset.
Annoyances (Slight)
The buttons are not well raised for tactile selection. I found myself having to look at the controls to make the proper selection.
The microphone dangles a bit too far away from your mouth making it difficult for the person on the other end to hear at times during a call.
The magnets in the earpieces that are supposed to hold them together (think necklace) when you don't want to wear them are too weak. Any jostling and they go flying off your neck. Just stick them back in the (supplied) case.

Pretty Good, But a Couple of Annoyances

Installation was pretty quick, go to the AVG website, create an account and input the activation code. Once registered, you're directed to a download page, download the installer and run. Installation went without a hitch. The installed software takes about 1GB of disk space, but seems to have very little performance impact (ie., low resource utilization) even when running benchmarks.
The package contains a number of protective elements that seems fairly comprehensive. These include:
Malware scanning (viruses, rootkits, trojans, etc)
State Full Firewall
Real time web and email protection
Behavior analysis(AI) defenses for zero day attacks and ransomware
Webcam hijacking protection
Encrypted data safe for private files
Website payment shield, protects against fake websites

All seemed to work pretty well.
There are a few annoyances that may or may not be important to you. The first is continual advertising of other AVG products in the console. This is acceptable in a 'free' version, but should be muted in a purchased version. The second is the Security Console UI. It's improved over previous versions, but it's still clunky to use. Configuration may require popping into one or more sub-sub menus or even sub-sub-sub menus. The last is the lack of a backup/recovery option. Even the best defenses will miss something. When the only solution is to wipe the drive and reinstall, a good backup/recovery solution is invaluable to limit the pain.

This double oven is an excellent value. Even without convention baking on, it bakes very evenly both side to side and shelf to shelf. The large windows make it easy to check on items anywhere in the oven. Checked the temperature with a separate thermometer and it's spot on. The controls are mostly very intuitive and well laid out.
NOTE: We got the oven in white and the the doors are entirely fronted in glass, very, very nice looking.

Perfect Upgrade for an Alarm Clock

We needed a new dual alarm clock. The Insignia Voice Speaker turned out to be the perfect choice with it's clock display and voice interface. It's especially nice when you are trying to set multiple alarms in the morning. No more fumbling around trying to figure out which button to press, or getting into some weird mode because the buttons are multipurpose. Just tell it when you want to set the alarm, and tap the top to stop the alarm. The price, especially on sale, makes it a real no-brainer.
Physically, it's small (3.5"x3.5"x6"tall) and has a usable (1A) USB charging port. The sound quality is quite good, at least on a par with other smart speakers in this price range. The volume and display brightness are adjustable with the 'soft' buttons on the top. Although there is no auto-dimming function, the default display brightness is easily visible during the day and not objectionable at night.
Having Google Assistant is a real added bonus. Being able to turn the heat up on a cold morning without leaving the bed, or turn off all the lights in the house when you go to bed is great. Getting the news, weather, traffic, agenda, or just playing music in the morning just by asking is actually useful and, yes, pretty fun. The list of things you can do just keeps increasing, it really does feel like a portal into a new world.

Excellent Sound, Easy Setup

This soundbar replaced an inexpensive 3.0 (two speakers and a separate center voice channel) soundbar paired to a Samsung 65" 4k tv. The difference in sound was quite dramatic, both in terms of increased bass presence and, surprisingly, voice quality. Overall, the sound quality is absolutely excellent.
The setup is really easy. The bar itself is a low profile bar, about half the height of most bars so if fit neatly under the (freestanding) tv. Attach the supplied HDMI cable and plug it into an ARC port on the tv, plug in the power brick and you're ready to go. If you don't have an ARC port on your tv, plug into any HDMI port on the tv and attach the supplied optical cable. The subwoofer is wireless, just plug in the power cord and it pairs automagically with the soundbar. Easy Peasy! One nice touch, the bar comes preconfigured to work with several different manufacturers remotes, so our Samsung tv remote turns the bar on and off, adjusts the volume, and mutes, all without any setup. If your tv is not one of the supported brands, there is a learning function.
The bass (subwoofer) can be adjusted from subtle to earthquake depending on your tastes. The sound clarity was really surprising, lots of details coming through that hadn't been noticed before. The biggest surprise was the voice processing. Voices, especially with a British accent, can be difficult to understand, but they are quite distinct and audible through the Magnifi Max.
The Magnifi Max can play audio over Bluetooth or Chromecast and has ports for additional HDMI inputs. There is also a Ethernet port for network connectivity as well as WiFi. WiFi is setup through Google Home and the Chromecast audio works well (NOTE: I use an Android device). Bluetooth audio playback also works well. The bar can also be upgraded to a 5.1 system with wireless rear surrounds from Polk.
Overall, a significant improvement over the bar it replaced and a vast improvement over the built in speakers. Excellent investment for anyone who wants richer and more detailed sound from their TV system. Highly recommended!

What is the weight of the laptop? And what is the weight of the AC power adapter? Does it come with a giant and heavy AC power adapter?
The laptop is a bit over 4lbs and about 3/4" thick. Battery life if you're not gaming, or if you dial back the game settings is pretty stellar - about 10 hours for just general office type operation. The power supply is a bit of a brick, but not as heavy as other gaming laptop power supplies. I would guess about a pound.

Sort of. HDMI is somewhat bandwidth limited, so the refresh rate will be lower than the laptop refresh rate. Better to use the USB-c DP functionality to get a higher refresh rate on an external monitor.

Yes, you can buy only two and mesh them. There are also other options. You can also buy an Eero 6 or Eero 6 extender and use that as the 'remote' node in the mesh.

yes, it's currently a 'Discover' feature and is off by default. If you mean can you define separate SSID's for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks, then no.
