Zakk Wylde's latest BLS album is chock full of everything you'd want in a BLS album. Chunky riffs, pinch harmonics, Ozzy-like howl, rockers and some somber piano and acoustic moments. This probably won't win over any new fans, but it also won't disappoint the old ones. If you're a fan, you know what you're getting here. And despite the weird title, it's NOT a hits compilation. It's all new material.

What Happened, Joe?

The last few Joe Perry solo albums consisted of songs Joe wrote for Aerosmith. When they didn't get used, he recorded them himself and for the most part they work. Now with Aerosmith on hiatus and not recording, Joe wrote an albums worth of material free from the shackles of writing for Aerosmith. These songs are more experimental and kinda out there. They don't rock hard and just don't work. The lead-off track is a real head-scratcher as it's not a particularly good song to begin with and an even worse way to open an album. Although I guess it's kind of fitting as the rest of the album is kinda bland and forgettable. Very disappointing to this long-time fan.

Album number 3 from Mothership pretty much follows the same path they were on for the first 2. Good, old fashioned, meat-and-potatoes stoner rock with clean, sometimes spacey vocals. If you liked their previous output, you should have no problem digging this new one.
