Scarlett Johansson is always a joy to watch and the action sequences are pretty fun as well. The soundtrack was interesting as well. The video/audio quality are both good.

Dark Phoenix has gotten a lot of hate, some of it well deserved and some of it not so much. I do not think this film is that "bad" so much as it is just "okay". If you've seen previous X-Men films, there is not much new here that stands out. There was a lot of potential in this story from the comics that, unfortunately, was not all realized in the film. Overall, I thought the film was an average good time to watch and do not regret watching it. The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer, however, is Phenomenal and the strongest part of this film. The technical merits of the blu ray discs are good. If you like this film, pick it up.

The picture and audio quality of the 4k blu ray is very nice and the Steelbook packaging makes for a nice gift. As for the film, I thought it was really great. Jon Favreau did an excellent job directing this. I know a lot of people like to claim the Animated Movie is better, but I feel this is an unfair criticism of this remake. If you consider the Remake on its own, I think it has substantial value. Lastly, the visuals are excellent and it is impressive how far CGI has come. The animals look lifelike. Check this out if you want a good film for the whole family or just an update on the Animated Classic.

If you enjoyed the first xXx with Vin Diesel, this is very reminiscent of it, although the production values seem higher and the action sequences are more elaborate here. The film itself doesn't take itself too seriously and, although there are some cheesy parts, I found it to be quite enjoyable like the first xXx. The cast is fun to watch as well. The actual blu ray picture quality is very sharp and the audio is good as well. If you like the Fast and the Furious franchise, you may want to consider checking this out.

This is a great streaming player for the price. The installation/set up is very quick and the user interface is easy to use. Most of all, it comes loaded with tons of streaming apps all of which can be updated to their respective latest versions. If your TV doesn't have apps like HBO NOW or Disney+, this is a good way to gain access to them. The streaming quality through the Roku is also nice and seems smoother compared to streaming directly through the apps installed directly on my smart TV.

The Last Jedi is an Absolute Masterpiece!

I am what you might call a "hardcore Star Wars fan". I grew up as a kid watching the original trilogy on VHS alongside my father to give you some perspective. When Disney bought Lucasfilm and started the sequel trilogy with the original cast returning, I was really excited and when "The Force Awakens" came out I really loved it! J.J. Abrams did an excellent job with Episode 7. Then, came Episode 8 "The Last Jedi" and I had very high expectations going into it after seeing TFA. Well, when I first saw it, "The Last Jedi" absolutely floored me in a great way and exceeded my expectations! Words cannot describe how much I LOVE this film. To me, this film is perfection and it is up there with "The Empire Strikes Back", the original trilogy, and "The Force Awakens" as a strong contender for the best Star Wars film in the entire saga!
"The Last Jedi" is a masterpiece because it is both an excellent Star Wars movie AND and incredible film from a film-making perspective. The extremely talented director Rian Johnson, who previously directed the interesting film "Looper", wrote and directed TLJ which resulted in the most ambitious and original Star Wars film since "Empire". His writing and direction are excellent, original, memorable, and pitch-perfect here as he has crafted a tremendous story that has layers upon layers of depth and is very thematically rich. Each of the main characters has a great character arc/journey that fits with the overall themes of the film and adds more depth to them. In addition, TLJ honors and respects the legacy of Star Wars while also looking to the future and embracing necessary change as the franchise evolves and grows. All of the actors are excellent in this film. Mark Hamill gives his best, most emotional performance ever as the legendary Luke Skywalker, whose portrayal I loved in this film, and Carrie Fisher is excellent as Princess Leia as she gives her last performance. The two of them share a beautiful scene together that will put you in tears if you are a long-time SW fans like me! The standouts from the new cast members are Daisy Ridley who is excellent as Rey and Adam Driver who wonderfully portrays a conflicted and unpredictable Kylo Ren! I cannot stress enough how talented these two new actors are. They really embody these characters and add depth to them while providing some of the best acting I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in a Star Wars film to date.
The cinematography by Steve Yedlin is also incredibly stunning and beautiful. Some of the shots and scenes in this movie had my jaw on the floor! This is also one of the most beautiful looking Star Wars films and so the 4K transfer is very sharp and crisp. The colors and lighting are great and there are some nice HDR highlights throughout. The 4K blu ray is pretty much the best way to experience this film at home.
The audio is also quite good for a Disney release as long as you crank up the volume. The sound effects and explosions have a nice crunch to them and make for a really immersive experience. On top of that, the legendary John Williams' wonderful music is the icing on this delicious cake. The musical score in TLJ packs a powerful and emotional punch that really adds to the film and the feeling of nostalgia while watching it.
To me, the pacing seems perfect and I have seen the film many times by now. There are moments that let you breathe and then there are moments where the action is very intense and engaging creating a pleasant and balanced movie watching experience. TLJ is one of those films that I absolutely loved on a first viewing and then has gotten even better and better over time the more times I have seen it on repeat viewings again and again.
The action and visual effects are also quite stunning. There is a "throne room scene" that is incredibly choreographed and filmed. It is one of the best and most memorable moments in the entire saga for me. And there is an entirely CGI character known as Snoke who looks photo-realistic. The CGI on him is so well-done that he looks like a living, breathing creature in front of the camera.
Overall, the writing and direction by Rian Johnson are excellent, the acting by the whole cast is wonderful, the cinematography by Steve Yedlin is stunning and beautiful, the music by John Williams is powerful, and the action/visual effects are incredible.
I apologize for the long review, but this is one of those films that has a really special place in my heart and resonates a lot with me. You can just tell that the director poured all of his heart, soul, and love for Star Wars into the making of this film and it is the definition of a passion project. It is NOT a generic Hollywood action movie produced on a conveyor belt like many other films tend to be these days. Instead, it is true art made by an artist with a voice and that makes it special.
If you loved "The Last Jedi" like me, then this 4K transfer is a must-have addition to your film collection and you probably already own it. Both the film and the 4K get my highest recommendation. And the Steelbook collector's edition that Best Buy offers for this film is a really nice touch as well. The artwork is colorful/vibrant and looks great in person.
