I feel like there's a great game here somewhere, it just hasn't made it there yet. Fallout 76 looks great and the area is vast to explore, but the lack of NPC and inability to really communicate with the other human players is a serious drag (at launch time). There's a chance that Bethesda could eventually make Fallout 76 like No Man's Sky in that the launch version was underwhelming but patches and updates could make it more fun. As it is, there's just enough to keep me interested, but not enough to make me hurry back to the game.

A Release the Dude would Abide

The Big Lebowski finally has a release that looks like a movie. I've seen this film in every iteration since catching it at a second run theater in 1998, and it's always been a bummer to see Joel and Ethan Coen's stoner classic look waxy and digital on DVD and Blu-Ray. For once, the 4k disc looks like something shot on film without smoothed over faces and sharp edges. And on the off chance that's still what you want, the included Blu-Ray is the same old disc, so best of both worlds?
I'll take the UHD - it really ties the room together.

Bigger Laughs in Smaller Packages

I hadn't heard much about Ant-Man and the Wasp following Infinity War, but this turns out to be a solid - if inessential - entry into the everlasting gobstopper known as "the Marvel Cinematic Universe". For a movie that doesn't really have villains and for which the stakes are pretty low, I found this pretty enjoyable and - dare I say it - more fun than the first Ant-Man. The 4k adds texture and the Quantum Realm pops in HDR, so if you need something to whet your appetite until Captain Marvel, you'll be pleasantly surprised by Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Aside from a less than robust audio mix, the 4k disc is an improvement on the (included) Blu-ray. I'm normally not a big steelbook guy, but the focus on Thanos is appropriate and preferable to the regular art.

If this is where Daniel Day-Lewis truly decides to end his acting career, at least he does so leaving it all out there. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the most interesting directors working today, and Phantom Thread somehow makes something I couldn't be less interested in (fashion) and turns it into riveting cinema. Kudos for adding the extras in 4k - it's not the norm right now.

Do yourself a favor when you watch A Quiet Place: turn off your phone and any other device, turn the sound up and make sure you have absolute silence to enjoy the movie in. This is a fantastic ride of a movie - even if it makes almost no sense after you're finished - and it deserves your full attention.

The early days of UHD is a lot like the early days of Blu-Ray, where it's not clear what's going to be carried over on the "new" format. It was a pleasant surprise to see the UHD disc with both cuts of Gladiator and their corresponding commentaries, plus all of the "legacy" extras included on the Blu-ray discs. As long as you don't mind a little print damage, this is a worthy upgrade.

It's hard to recommend The Last House on the Left as a movie for people who haven't seen it, but for those of you who have, this is the definitive presentation. Arrow have outdone themselves putting together this package, and shy of someone finding an actual uncut version, this is the best we're going to see.
