For the price, and the size, this TV is probably unbeatable for the generation. It's really crazy how affordable TVs have gotten, and VIzio provides a lot of bang for the buck.
One drawback to the 43" is that it's essentially a different model altogether, with far fewer local dimming zones than all the models larger than it. I imagine this impacts the actual ability to showcase HDR content, but what it shows looks good. Blacks look really good, though.

The smartcast platform is pretty decent, but is a little weird with some Google services not reaching their expected potential. Apparently each side blames the other. I have abundant means of getting those services anyway, but it's still a little strange. Most other services work totally fine, and reach their full potential.

This soundbar fits fairly perfectly with my 43" M series in a small room. If you have doubts about the subwoofer, you can put those to rest, the thing can hit (although perhaps not the most precise? I'm no audiophile).
The main thing about this soundbar is that it can instantly make you wish you'd gone for 5.1.2 or 5.1.4. Atmos decoding really does make a difference, but the actual effect is limited in the 3.1.2 config.
It's not so much a "surround sound" system, but instead you should view it akin to the difference between mono and stereo, only vertically oriented. Stereo Version 2, perhaps.
A nicer way of putting it is that this soundbar sounds good enough that I kinda would've liked to have known how the beefier versions sound. But a full surround setup is impractical in the 11x12 room this is in.

I recommend the 4k version of Blade Runner (1982), the Directors Cut, with Atmos. That movie's audio is (re)masterfully done, and really showcased the potential of even this 3.1.2 configuration.

Cowboy Bebop is a classic, and this one includes a digital copy, which is nice... although I bought it digitally too, not too long ago.
Arguably makes this a slightly better deal than the traditional version with the slipcase.

Microsoft has been killin it with Game Pass, I have Ultimate through 2021 and bought this Xbox SAD just to access the console only titles. I actually remote play it from my PC in another room.
I had to decide whether the 4k blu ray player (and a game) on the One S was worth paying more for, but I honestly don'y have any 4k Blu ray media anyway, and I'm a pretty big proponent of digital libraries, so I figured I'd put my money (savings) where my mouth is, and have been happy with the S All Digital (SAD).

Vizio's website claims that M21d-H8R supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Is this correct?
No, just Virtual X. I think the Atmos banner is meant for the M Series line, which includes a beefier soundbar that's coming out later.
Virtual X does a pretty decent job simulating a wider soundstage across all content, but it doesn't simulate a surround effect and it lacks the degree of precision of dedicated Atmos content, IMO.
