Infamous Did It
on September 19, 2018

Have you played Spider-Man 2 for the PS2? Have you played any of the Infamous games? Then you've already played this game. There is nothing new, groundbreaking, or anything done exceptionally well other than including the Spider-Man brand. How this average game has gotten such massive sales and glowing reviews is beyond me, other than the typical comic book fan's obsessive need to consume every piece of media containing men in tights.
It's by no means a bad game though. It has decent graphics. I won't say great as there are far too many examples of games with much better visuals. It has good writing. Although, once again it's nothing amazing either. The combat is decent, although not as elegant as the Arkham games. It's also got a good length for an action game, though it achieves that by padding the experience with some of the most monotonous and repetitive missions in a recent open-world game. Oh yeah, don't get me started on those awful stealth missions. Wait, I thought I had good things to say?
This game is the very definition of average, and it walks that line as its seams fall apart the longer it goes on. If you have an undying love for Spider-Man, it may be worth it. If not, just stick to the Infamous games, which are far superior.

Too Loose

I bought these to use as PS4 and Nintendo Switch Joy-Con covers. I can't fault the convex covers being too loose on the Joy-Cons since they weren't made for that, but the concave covers are way too loose on the PS4 sticks, and they constantly slide and twist. Do yourself a favor and buy the Xbox One version of these analog covers as they fit the PS4 sticks much better. If you don't do that, buy a more expensive brand because these aren't worth the cheap cost.

Works for PS4 and Switch Pro Controllers
on August 10, 2018

I bought these for a Nintendo Switch Pro controller and an extra set for a PS4 controller. The concave set actually fits better on the PS4 controller than the ones made for the PS4, and the convex set, while slightly loose, is a suitable substitute for the Switch Pro controller. It's certainly worth the low price point compared to competitors.

Play eight separate games in one immersive title with Octopath Traveler for Nintendo Switch. Choose characters ranging from an apothecary to a merchant or warrior to set off on an adventure that includes layered turn-based battles across Square Enix. Octopath Traveler is a unique role-playing game with multiple paths to play each time you pick up the controller.

Repetitive, Nostalgic Fun

3.5/5
I'll get the biggest problem of the game out of the way: you're going to go through the exact same pattern of gameplay 32 times.
This level of repetition ruined Bravely Default (also from this developer--it seems old habits die hard), but somehow Octopath Traveler is able to maintain momentum. Perhaps it's the storylines, trope-laden as they are, which satisfyingly build throughout, or the most likely reason: the combat system.
Octopath has an engaging battle system that is consistently fun and strategic through to the end, although it is easily busted with magic classes and SP reduction/regeneration. The job system has been heavily praised, but I found it to be a huge downside--prepare to have characters lack any sort of identity, and with only 8 classes (4 additional towards the end), there just isn't much variety.
The visuals are also a mixed bag. At times they are fantastic, truly conveying a pixelized diorama of our childhoods. Most of the time, they're dark, blurry, and muddy, so it's not a particularly attractive game overall. The music is consistently fantastic, however.
Octopath Traveler is a good game that will hopefully lead to a better sequel, but as it is it does not stand up to the RPGs of yesterday, no matter how hard it tries to look and feel like one. Go in without heightened expectations and you may be surprised by its charm.
