A surprising effort from M. Night Shyamalan

M. Night Shyamalan has had his ups and downs as a filmmaker as he debuted with "The Sixth Sense" to critical acclaim and continued to apply his craft with his follow-up "Unbreakable" & "Signs", but then his works started to become stale ("The Village") very quick and at times plain awful ("The Happening"). So for his latest film "Split", he actually showcases the craft that made him into an appealing filmmaker with this surprisingly effective thriller film showcasing an individual who has multiple personalities with one looking to appear very soon to become the dominant one. Actor James MacAvoy does a very good job portraying the tormented antagonist and with a surprising reveal towards the end tied to another one of his films, "Split" manages to deliver.

"Hereditary" stars Toni Collette in what may be one of her best roles in recent years portraying a grieving mother who looks to find a way to communicate with her late daughter but other sinister motives come into play. Fans of slow driven horror films like "The Badabook" & "The Witch" will find plenty to like in this gothic horror film.

The third chapter of "The Avengers" franchise ups the ante with a massive cast featuring more than 20 stars on the big screen. Despite having dozens of stories taking place during the film, the film delivers the goods as the unexpected occurs. The only drawback is that viewers will have to wait for the next film to see how this story ends. Overall, "Avengers: Infinity War" is highly recommended.

"Counterpart" offers a unique premise regarding another parallel universe involving the protagonist's doppelganger. But as the plot progresses, things are not what they appear to be while showcasing an interesting story that has some promise to this freshman series. The acting is also done very well by working man actor J.K. Simmons.

Jason Reitman & Diablo Cody return with a new film and it's good. "Tully" is a drama providing a viewpoint on the struggles of motherhood at a mid-life age. While the plot does unveil a surprise that some may have already predicted from the get go, the acting here (particularly MacKenzie Davis) is top notch.

John Krasinski's "A Quiet Place" is for the most part an effective film to add in the horror/thriller genre as it draws similarities to the likes of other films such as "The Witch" & "The Badabook" relying not only on scares but on character development and storytelling as well as creating an effective atmosphere. "A Quiet Place" overall is a solid film that even most casual viewers will enjoy.

Does this version of the film feature the Director's Cut as a special feature? Want to decide between getting this amazing looking steelbook or regular Blu-ray with the Director's Cut.
Will there be a US 4k release or possibly a steelbook by BestBuy instead of just a blu-ray copy?
A lot of people have asked this question. While there is currently a 4K version set to be available overseas in Europe, there may be a slither of a chance it arrives possibly down the road in the States. As Neon's (the distributor) record of yet releasing any of their titles (e.g. "Apollo 11", "I, Tonya" & "Three Identical Strangers) on the 4K format leaves any chance of a possible 4K release to be very slim.
