IYKYK. I mean, this movie encapsulates so much early 90s it's a time capsule unto itself. Beyond that, it's top notch action filmmaking from a young Katherine Bigelow, two iconic performances from Patrick Swayze as Bodi and Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah (no better a name was ever written), and a dash of Gary Busey which is a spice any movie benefits from!

Never steered wrong with a Samsung!

Finally had to upgrade the TV after my old HD Samsung went out after 15 years! Stuck with Samsung because I trust them and they last :) Only downside to this really is the fact that there's a noticeable lag between pressing a button on the remote and the TV then receiving the command. I believe this is on account of the small processor inside all Smart TVs, so it is what it is. It's fine but a little annoying. Picture overally is very good, love the Filmmaker Mode, and the internal sound is decent enough.

Oh, Heat… How many times have I bought you? Let me count the ways…
If I would’ve started my collection with VHS, I would’ve started with the 2-tape VHS set of this movie. However, being too young I wouldn’t pick up my first copy until the release of the special edition DVD. Then came the ‘Definitive Director’s Edition’ on Blu-ray. And now we get the same edition in 4k with a sleek, gorgeously appropriate steely blue steelbook case. I bought’em all. And never with a moment of doubt that I wouldn’t. It’s Heat. It’s a classic that’s influenced the likes of Christopher Nolan so how can you not appreciate it?! Don’t bother with my Best Buy review if you need to learn more about the film, that’s what the rest of the internet is for. If you know and love this film, then from one diehard to another, take my word for it: take the plunge and preserve a classic in its best looking release yet!

Love Forever

While some movies age poorly and become relics of their time barely clinging to nostalgia, others reflect their times and stand out because what worked then still works today. Like any vampire in this movie, The Lost Boys ages beautifully. And thanks to the full 4k upgrade and slick steelbook packaging this movie is rejuvenated for years to come. Long live the gorgeous and brash work from Joel Schumacher and the impossible cool and good looks from the entire cast (including the sexiest sax player ever committed to film - sorry Rob Lowe from both me and Joel ;)

What could’ve been poorly handled and reduced to typical sci-fi tropes/cliches (and subsequently was in straight to video sequels) was saved by someone with as bold of a vision as Paul Verhoeven. To make something look as slick and polished with such beautiful people fronting as our “good guys” while the enemy is reduced to literal bugs who should be beneath us all in an attempt to glamorize a pro-fascist government? Geez, this is incredible. And let’s face it: it’s incredibly fun. Gleefully, gruesomely, gory as all get out fun! This thing is singular. Singular of its time and from a singular creator. It deserves nothing less than a solid release in the highest quality to preserve it for time in collectors’ catalogs.

90’s Classic

I understand the problems surrounding the cast and crew of this film and don’t begrudge anyone their opinion. However, here’s mine: this is still one of my all time faves. The script from McQ, the score and editing from John Ottman, and one of the most fun crime ensembles gathered still adds up to something magically spellbinding. This movie was long overdue for the full upgrade and was long overdue in my library. I’ve been holding onto my DVD special edition with slipcase for what’s felt like decades. Now it can properly be retired and replaced by this stellar release from Kino. Thank you so much. I’ll be keeping this release close to me locked in a briefcase handcuffed to my wrist :D

Don’t miss the train!

Remakes are more often than not inferior to the original. I won’t say this surpasses the original but this is a well done western that at least lives up to the original. Solid action, solid cast, all packaged in a solid (steel) case ;) The design of the slipcase does a wonderful job evoking the mood, atmosphere, and even tone of the film. Fully worth the upgrade if you like/want this movie!

This movie doesn’t need much of an introduction or an overview here. It’s a classic. Solid script from David Mamet and solid direction from Brian De Palma building set piece sequences like only he can. And an Oscar-winning performance from Sir Sean Connery, who naturally benefits from getting the best lines. What we get here is an equally solid upgrade to 4k with a well-designed steelbook keeping in theme with the prohibition-set movie. If you love The Untouchables then this is the version to get.

I love collector's editions of fave movies and when this was announced, I was predisposed for the pre-order. However, sometimes "special" editions or steelbooks hardly live up to the movie they encase. Not the "case" here ;) When I saw they used the slipcover to reveal Bradley Whitford and Peter Jenkins' characters behind their control monitors...that just confirmed this was created by someone who loved the movie just as much as me. The original Blu-ray came with a well-designed linticular cover which I will keep, but I'm now thrilled to have this in my collection as well. I always keep my eye out for great steelbooks and this is why!
