Having lost one of their young twin sons in a car accident, Rachel and Anthony Doyle (Teresa Palmer, Steven Cree) felt that pulling up stakes for a Finnish farmhouse would let them start afresh. It seems that it wasn't far enough, as surviving sib Elliot (Tristan Ruggeri) started manifesting bizarre behavior... and his trauma-spurred longing for his brother results in uncanny and unholy consequences. Moody stunner also stars Barbara Marten, Ergo K~ppas. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Almost Okay. Nice Blu-ray.

The movie was...okay, I guess. Nothing all that great, but it was reasonably attention-keeping. I could watch Teresa Palmer in just about anything and she seems to be the only one taking her performance seriously here. The disc provides a nice presentation, as expected for a modern, digitally-shot production, and it's nice that it was released on Blu-ray. It's not a great film, but if you like barely-mediocre horror movies or enjoy watching Tess, it might be worth it. Maybe.

So Far, So Good

I also have the older 4TB My Passport and this version is better in every way (faster, smaller, higher capacity). I haven't had any issues with is thus far (after about 5-6 months of use) and it's serving its purpose well as an encrypted AFP fileshare. Never had any issues with Western Digital yet and these 2.5" drives tolerate heat much better than similar Seagate drives from what I've experienced. I didn't touch any of the included software.

An Absolute Steal

Impossible to pass up at only $13 for six movies, the collection may be dwarfed by the 4K release, but you really can't go wrong for the price. The first three movies in particular sport unexciting Blu-ray releases that were dated even when the were new (and still lack lossless audio). The latter three, however, fare much better and excellently reproduce the big-budget extraordinaire of the productions. Definitely worth picking up for some ridiculous but also ridiculously entertaining films if you can find it for the right price...or just get the 4K collection.

Excellent Presentation from Sony
on January 5, 2021

The movie is absurd and outlandish, but an entertaining ride nonetheless. The 4K disc on the other hand is a treat. Sony consistently puts out high quality 4K releases (for celluloid pieces, that is) and this is no exception. The picture and audio presentation are worthy of this big-budget blockbuster.

Decent Sequel, Great Encode
on January 5, 2021

The first John Wick was an unexpectedly decent outing, though I still question the need for additional movies. That's not to discount the fact that as far as sequels go, this one is definitely above average, despite it being a relatively average movie overall. The technical presentation is excellent, as one should really expect from a modern, digitally-shot movie of this caliber. The audio is certainly a lot of fun and there is a nice assortment of bonus features on the disc.

Surprising

For a film of this vintage, the quality was outstanding. Fox's release carries a consistently high quality presentation with nicely a rendered grainfield and, again, surprisingly robust audio. The average bitrate is also particularly high which is always nice to see. I wish more classics received this treatment.

Good Movie, Okay Disc
on January 5, 2021

The film is certainly worth seeing and is always an amusing escape. The encode looks as though it was based on a DVD-era master – which certainly looks better than a DVD – but is merely watchable. There are no obvious problems with the release, but the movie could really use a new (4K) scan. The same can be said of the audio; no issues, but it's nothing more than pedestrian. It's better than nothing and worth owning on the strength of the movie.

Winner of six Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor, Robert Zemeckis' modern-day InchCandideInch stars Tom Hanks as the simple-minded but good-hearted Forrest, whose life is a series of accidental encounters with the memorable people and pivotal events of the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Endearing mix of comedy and drama also stars Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field as Mama Gump. 141 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks English Dolby Digital Atmos, French Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 German Dolby Digital 5.1, Italian Dolby Digital 5.1, Japanese Dolby Digital stereo, Portuguese Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles Cantonese, Mandarin, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish; audio commentary; featurettes. Mixed Bag

The film is wonderful – basically a classic at this point – and I'm sure everyone's aware of it. The anniversary remaster, however, is somewhat inconsistent. I would content that it is certainly better than the old release overall, but the occasional noise-stripping is unfortunate and the green-tint may be better or worse depending on your preferences.
The movie's great, the release is also good, but should have been much better.

First-Rate Technical Presentation, As Expected
on January 5, 2021

It's not a particularly "showy" film, but the Blu-ray faithfully replicates the content as one would hope. The audio is fine for a drama, talking was easily intelligible. The disc is nothing truly exceptional, but it's a good movie and this is a good way to enjoy it.

Better Than Expected

Gremlins is a well-loved classic, but I was surprised that this presentation was much better than I was led to believe by some reviews. It's wonderfully filmic and carries a beautiful grainfield that was thankfully reproduced properly. For being a relatively modestly-budgeted film, this 4K presentation holds up exceedingly well. I do wish WB had included a new 1080p disc based on the new master, though.
