Great movie, high quality release

We all know the story by now, it's a classic 80's movie. After finding it in the discount bin for a decent price, I was happy to finally pick this up on disc, particularly the remastered version. While not a perfect release, the new transfer is substantially improved, most notably the color. Definitely worth owning.

Ambitiously grand, all-around excessive

It's not an amazing movie, but Peter Jackson did a pretty fantastic job capturing a spirit of grandeur with this movie. Surprisingly, the rather excessive digital effects actually hold up particularly well and can even put some newer movies to shame. While ultimately an entertaining ride, it is so unnecessarily long.
The Blu-ray presentation, though, is great all the way around. The quality of the movie, presentation, and incredibly extensive bonus features (thankfully placed on a separate disc) is a steal at $6. I actually preferred this to the upscaled 4K version which makes it an even better value for me. Can't go wrong for such a low price.

Great film, great Blu-ray release

A very well-produced film, especially considering it's a low-budget TV movie from almost 30 years ago. Great atmosphere and effects, and – most importantly – a well-paced and well executed plot. This is everything the 2017 movie wishes it was.
Considering the source, the Blu-ray turned out very well with a surprisingly high-quality, organically grainy release. It's nice to finally have this in its original aspect ratio and is a substantial quality bump over the DVD (or even VHS, both of which I once had). the DTS-HD MA 2.0 track also does a decent job representing the content, again, taking into account the source material.

Nothing more. I do however appreciate Apple's effort to make these cards less ridiculous to redeem with the easy peel-off sticker over the code, instead of having to scratch it off with a coin or something. Other than that, the iTunes Store is what it always was and this is a nice way to load funds on one's account.

Can't call this a "good" movie, but it satisfies well enough as mindless entertainment. It provides the popcorn spectacle with just enough ridiculous story to keep it moving. We all know what we're getting into, so I can't really fault them too much. The transfer was fine, nothing too impressive. So I guess the BD's quality falls in line with the film rather well in that regard. It's everything you expect it to be; good and bad.

Excellent release, much better color

Very different from the previous Blu-ray I have, but a significant improvement in my opinion. Everything is significantly brighter and the color grading is far more natural (as it should be) compared to the previous over-the-top green. WB was also polite enough to port the new transfer to the 1080p Blu-ray as well, which is always a pleasant surprise. Overall, not everyone will necessarily like the new look as it changes the feel of the movie, but for me I was significantly impressed with the improvement over the previous releases.
