Musicals morphed once to epics in the 60s then shifted again to the modern, gritty, New American cinema of the 70s. Bob Fosse met that challenge head on with a toe tapping, devastatingly introspective look at fascism and its effects, both in denial and of acceptance, on the people who live amid its rise. CABARET is a story of dreams, high dreams, trounced and shattered but never dead. This is innovative filmmaking at its finest with shining acting and the beginning of the 'life is a stage' musical motif returned to in CHICAGO. Represented very well on Blu-ray with an awesome book. A++

If you've read the legends then you know this movie. It exists. It's all true. George Lucas put his name to it. And yes, there is duck nudity. The film is outrageous and laugh out loud ridiculous. There are some nifty effects and the actors try their best, but even for schlock you feel by the end of its too long runtime the character should have stayed on the comic book page. Best for a bad movie night and a few beers.

One of the best written comedies of the golden age of Hollywood. It is biting, satirical and emotionally deft where it counts as well as where it is unexpected when it reveals the tragic underpinnings of modern corporate living from all facets. 4 star review is only because like all MGM discs from a period, it annoyingly has no main menu and just cycles the movie, features only accessible through the pop up menu which inhibits the experience.

Haunting, mesmerizing and sensual -- everything you'd expect from the leading surrealist filmmaker of the modern (or any) era. This is near peak-Lynch perfection and also, oddly enough, one of his most accessible. Then he gave us TWIN PEAKS <3 The MGM Blu-ray is perfectly fine although its lack of menu is frustrating (one of their follies on all blurays) so if you don't like that, get the Criterion release, otherwise, this one does just fine.

Entertaining Re-Invention

Michael Myers has come alive and died a million times and then did it again in 2018 with help from a large cast/crew and Jamie Lee Curtis returning to her seminal character that ignites every frame she's in. It may be pedestrian at times and have a few misfire ideas, but even without nostalgia I was entertained from the first moment and am thankful that everyone tried their hardest to give Halloween new meaning. And it's beautiful, well designed aurally and you cannot beat an original John Carpenter score who is basically the John Williams of horror. A+

Who doesn't love The Evil Dead? Maybe those with weak stomachs and low tolerance for weirdo slapstick -- but they don't make practical effect low fi shockers like this anymore! Bruce Campbell and the effects crew pull out all the stops under Sam Raimi's expert direction to deliver a scary thrill ride filled with gore and laughs. This is a classic, also the blurry delivers on all fronts for the price.
