Ghost in the Shell - Upgraded to 4K
on January 4, 2021
Posted by: MovieCollector
Verified Purchase:Yes
Over the years, the original Japanese Anime film Ghost in the Shell has been released many times, each of which has had problems with the release. The new 4K release is not without problems but is by far the best release so far. The pluses - the colors are richer and has never looked finer, a bit of grain is still present but not distracting, and the English translation has been corrected and is the most accurate so far. Negatives - the film’s original end credit song—Kenji Kawai’s (Chant 3 – Reincarnation) has been replaced by the Passengers’s (One Minute Warning), so this release isn't true to the original film release. In addition the slip cover art has been censored, they've covered her nipples and masked her gun.
So if you a fan of this movie this is the best version available if you can look past the original end credit song being removed as the improved picture, sound, and translations are far the best in this version than any prior release. Also there are new special features included on the 4K disc and the Blu-ray disc has the previous special features carried over on to it.

Visually Stunning War Film
on January 3, 2021

1917 was nominated for 10 Oscars (including Best Picture and Director) and winning 3 (Cinematography, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects). The story is similar to the movie Apocalypse Now but without the madness. My only fault with this release is that extras come up a bit short (standard fluff pieces) but there are two Audio Commentaries, one by the director/co-writer Sam Mendes and the other by the director of photography Roger Deakins that are excellent and well worth listening to.

Lesser-Known Noir Film Release
on January 27, 2020
Posted by: MovieCollector
Verified Purchase:Yes
Trapped is the latest Noir film released by the Flicker Alley studio. This film was recently restored by the UCLA Film & Television Archive and the restoration is great. Flicker Alley who have been releasing these lesser-known Noir films, mainly to showcase earlier works by actors/actresses/directors who would go on to greater films. In this case it's one of Lloyd Bridges earliest film roles and the director, Richard Fleischer went on to direct classics such as 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Tora! Tora! Tora!, The Boston Strangler, and Doctor Doolittle. To be honest this film is definitely a B-Film at best and should only be purchased by those who are fans of unknown Noir, Lloyd Bridges, or Richard Fleischer.

Impressive Joaquin Phoenix Film
on January 27, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
The Joker was the most Oscar nominated film this year (11 nominations), and it's easy to see why. Joaquin's performance as the Joker will amaze you, and he should get the Oscar for Best Actor this year. The film has so many layers to it, it's a current reflection on the viewpoint on how we treat mental health issues in the United States today. It's a cautionary tale of what we can expect if we continue down our our current path of the rich taking everything and leaving the poor fighting for scraps. On top of this it's a great movie and the rise of the Joker. You can't beat the 4K presentation too. Highly recommend this film, it's great better with each repeated viewing.

John Rambo Is Back With A Vengeance
on January 27, 2020

After some twenty-eight years later John Rambo is back. If you've been following the series of films (the latest is the fifth film in the series), then you're no stranger to the expected over the top violence. Sylvester Stallone (who plays John Rambo), after all these years is still on top of his game and is a joy to watch. Highly entertaining film especially if you are a fan of this series.

Conjuring Universe Annabelle Story Film
on January 27, 2020
Posted by: MovieCollector
Verified Purchase:Yes
If I was to rate the Annabelle films, I would say this is probably the weakest of all the films. The Warren's (Ed and Lorraine) roles are basically reduced to nearly cameos in this latest film. In the film you get a look at many of the artifacts they've collected over the years in their locked room. It would be nice to see some of these other stories brought to film and end the series of Annabelle films for the time being. That being said if you are a fan of the Annabelle series of films then this is a must see and add to your collection.

Another great film from the Conjuring universe of stories, and it even has a direct tie in to the Annabelle series of films. The story based on a Latino folklore, which was something unexpected and fresh. Special effects are really good too. Overall very entertaining and scary.

14 years Later and Still Going Strong
on January 27, 2020

Not many TV shows can say they've been continuously aired for fourteen years (soon to be fifteen years) and still stay fresh. The last few years haven't been on par with the earlier years, but in my opinion the writers kicked it up a notch this year and will hopefully will finish the series on a high note with the fifteen and final season. As to the fourteen season, if you've followed the Winchester boys this long, then buying this complete season is a no-brainer.

4K Sci-Fi Must See Film
on January 27, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
This movie is based on the Japanese manga comics, which James Cameron is a big fan of. He waited years until the technology in the movie industry could properly support his vision for the film, unfortunately due to his commitment to his Avatar sequel he wasn't able to direct this film but he brought in Robert Rodriguez, another fan of the Japanese manga comics to do so. I can only hope that James continues the Alita series as there are at least a couple more films that need be made before the story is finished. As to this 4K release, there are over two hours on bonus extras which are a must seeing to fully appreciate the love that was put into the making of this film. The movie was shot with 4K and 3-D in mind so this release is a must if you have a 4K TV and 4K Blu-ray player.

Classic Kubrick/Nicholson Film on 4K
on January 27, 2020
Posted by: MovieCollector
Verified Purchase:Yes
No need to review the movie itself as it's been available in every format since VHS. The film itself is the prequel to the new film Doctor Sleep and is a must see before seeing Doctor Sleep. Jack Nicholson gives the very best performance he's ever done, why he didn't get an Oscar is a mystery (other than Horror films are looked down upon by the Academy for some reason). This new 4K is a definite improvement over the regular Blu-ray release and is highly recommend if you have a 4K TV and 4K Blu-ray player.
