[Employee of bestbuy] Got one for my kids after we watched the movie for Halloween, they love it! It’s not the best quality but for the price in think it’s worth it. It does remain off though, the sound he makes gets annoying after a while.

Firstly, no where online or the specifications does this say it doesn’t work with Blu-rays which would have been nice to know before I grabbed it from curbside. To their credit, it does say so on the box, albeit on the back and very small as well as in small print in their absolutely terrible instruction manual, never seen a manual open like this, so you’re bound not to read it in the right order. There a six plain and simple steps, and no way to screw this up. I made sure it was dripping wet and this was the result. Absolute trash!!!! I tried this on a PS3 game that made normal wear on it, but was taking a long time to load. The drive didn’t even recognize the disc after! I checked other discs and it’s definitely the disc and not the drive. The streaks it says are normal like rubbed the actual layer off the disc. On top of that, the little arm it comes with barely stays on, I felt like I was gonna break it before it stopped popping off! Every cuss word in the book going straight to insignia!

Firstly, I would like to say that this was delivered via USPS and the case arrived cracked and scratched up. Luckily the disc wasn’t damaged but I am very displeased nonetheless.
This must be a HD rerelease of the original DVD transfer because it suffered quit a bit in terms of visuals. Now this is a blu-ray not a 4K Blu-ray but watching this in 2021, I can say it definitely could have had more attention paid to it before it got released. This isn’t a hugely popular film, so although it was not the best transfer, this is probably the best it’s gonna get. Note that while it could’ve been better, it is far from unwatchable.
In terms of the film and story itself, this is not based on any truth, but it definitely fun and a good film to watch contemplating the worth of war and the repercussions of it, all wrapped up in a sort-of-heist/redemption arc.

This is the first film ever digitally scanned at the 8k resolution, that alone warrants any collector, including 4K UHD collectors, to get this disc! I wish this had HDR but it still looks fantastic, there isn’t talk to have this rereleased in 4K so I would get this while you can!

I watched this as a kid and was really looking forward to an HD, or at least better than CRTTV picture quality, to share with my kids. This restoration is absolute junk, this is the lowest quality transfer I’ve seen. I understand that this came out in the early 2000s, on Hallmark no less, but watching this through a 4K player (Panasonic UB-820) on an OLED (C9) is bad. This looks every bit as subpar as any DVD I have. This isn’t anywhere close to being worth $60! Just get the DVD if you can.
Two-disc set includes Braveheart (1995) Director/star Mel Gibson took home Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards for this historical epic about 13th-century Scottish hero William Wallace, a farmer of lesser nobility, who is forced into fighting the forces of England's King Edward I after they kill his father and new wife. Highlighted by amazing battle scenes, the passionate saga, based on a 15th-century poem, also stars Patrick McGoohan, Sophie Marceau, Angus Macfadyen, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine McCormick. 177 min. C/Rtg R Gladiator (2000) Winner of Best Picture and Best Actor Academy Awards, director Ridley Scott's stirring spectacle stars Russell Crowe as heroic Roman general Maximus. Firstly I will say this: Gladiator 4K stand-alone is $19.99, Braveheart 4K stand-alone is $17.99. This is only $27.99 (when I bought it), save money and just get this. This was released after those two so it has the same transfer as each of those.
This is first time I have seen either one of these films and I was not disappointed at all. These films look fantastic in 4K, especially Gladiator. Desert films shot in bright, natural sunlight somehow transfer perfectly in HDR. Gladiator has Dolby Vision but no Atmos, just a DTS 5.1 audio transfer (sorry Sonos owners). Braveheart also has Dolby Vision but does have Atmos so I am very happy.
Gladiator Extended is nonstop fun, I couldn’t get enough and didn’t want to get up! Braveheart dragged in certain spots and felt more like a mini-series, or what should have been a mini-series, kind of awkwardly edited into slightly longer than standard movie length. Both are not only worth the watch, but worthy of any cinema collection, especially a 4K collection, get it while you can!

Firstly, you’re probably only gonna get this if you’re a huge Firefly/Serenity Nerd, just buy it. This is the best we will probably ever get of Serenity from Universal. Universal wastes no time in franchises that don’t have Fast, Jurassic, or Furious in the title, so this mostly likely it. It is an obvious upconvert from the original Blu-ray release, maximum of a 2k scan. But to their credit, they did make a fan film for a show that was cancelled halfway though it’s first season. Again if you’re a hardcore fan, this isn’t disappointing at all and major improvement over the DVD I got back in ‘06, but it isn’t perfect for the hardcore HDR nut.
No Dolby Vision, no Atmos/DTS: X, which should move this down to 3/5 but I love this film. Sonos owners beware, no Dolby tracks, only DTS which sucks. The desert/sunny scenes are nice to look at but most interior shots are meh when referring to HDR.

Great Restoration 4K Blompkamp Trilogy is Complete

Arguably the best in the District 9-Elysium-Charlie Trilogy, this 4K restoration is on point. It doesn’t have Dolby Vision which is disappointing, but it does have Atmos True HD which is great. The HDR doesn’t suffer though, so maybe it didn’t need Dolby Vision. If you’re a Blompkamp fan, this needs to be on your shelf!

This movie was originally shot on film but what was digitally scanned to add the CGI. This is obviously a quick up-convert by re-encoding it into 4K. HDR is garbage, almost too dark to make out most of the film, but does have DTS:X (no Atmos though, sorry Sonos owners). Universal has gotten extremely lazy, unless Fast, Furious or Jurassic is in the title, they won’t put any money into it. This does have the additional Blu-ray and the digital copy so it’s not a total loss; if you’re a big fan of this movie or cast/crew behind it, this probably the best you’re gonna get, it just could’ve been better. Given that it has faded from the mainstream and the Dark Universe reboots (which this should’ve totally been the launching point) failed, I doubt Arrow Video (who has recently been restoring Universal films in 4K) will pursue it. Kinda hope they don’t since I bought this, but I doubt it.
