Queen Biopic

We all like Queen. This movie is responsible for a revival of Queen--for every other commercial on TV from Silk Almond Milk to Ford Trucks taking advantage of Queen's catchiest tracks.
Yes, there were liberties taken with the actual events for the sake of the narrative--this is Hollywood, for cryin' out loud.
No, that is not Raimi Malek singing the vocal parts. But that's understandable, because Freddie Mercury's voice is nearly impossible for most humans to emulate.
But it's good anyway, and you'll find yourself wanting to hear Queen's music for awhile to come.

If you haven't seen this, you need to. Enough said. It's classic. All the parts come together perfectly. While still a bit goofy compared to today's standards, I think this film provides the prototype for the superhero genre moving forward.

I will start by saying this movie is up there with the best Spider-Man movies. It literally spews with creative energy. There's nothing I find problematic, truly--it's fun, with good story and developed characters. This steelbook package was also pretty cool, mostly for the interior art. If you like superhero movies but want something with a bit more of a comic book "look," definitely give this movie your time.

John Carpenter's Lesser Known Gem

I won't say much to give this movie away, but I do think the most chilling scenes come in the form of surveillance footage with a voiceover I now know to be the clip sampled in Marilyn Manson's cover of Gary Numan's "Down in the Park." Needless to say, I advise horror fans to nab this one up without hesitation. Scream Factory's steelbook is pretty nice too.

Nothing Scares Me

At almost 40 years of age, my viewing of The Exorcist is long overdue. There's no particular reason for that--I have long established my desensitization to the horror film genre. It was actually this steelbook package that persuaded me to take the plunge, coupled with the emerging Halloween season. So I finally watched it, and it is a quality horror film (up there with the likes of Rosemary's Baby), so I recommend it--not that you need me to.

Do you like retro 1980s movies? Do you like Stephen King's short stories? If yes, this film might be for you. In the grand tradition of Creepshow, Trilogy of Terror, and Tales from the Crypt, Cat's Eye tells three short narratives tied together by the adventures of a cat. I won't give much away, as I went into this one with no prior knowledge and enjoyed it quite a lot. At this price, I'd totally recommend it. In fact, if you see the steelbook in store, go ahead and treat yourself. You get the digital code that way too.

Good Stephen King Adaptation

I still haven't seen the remake, but I have read the novel and this film follows the narrative fairly well. There are imperfections that come with the territory of being a 1980s horror flick. Many of us actually embrace those flaws, which could explain the large fan base for genre films of the 1970s and 80s. This title was fairly priced, and the transfer was pretty good as I recall. Recommended.

Probably the best MCU movie
