Hard drive failed and needed another quickly. This drive did the trick. Replaced a WD drive that failed after about 1 year (reason for the 3 stars). Now...that's another issue. Drives should not fail that quickly. For the most part, they do last longer on most of my devices.

Finally...home network connectivity at its best!

We've used Netgear routers for a while now. After purchasing the Netgear R6300 to replace my WNDR4500 / N900, I wired the older router to the R6300 to create a extended/mesh network. While that worked well enough in my home, we still ran into issues. Once the Orbi offered the ability to create a wired backhaul, I took the plunge and bought the units. So far, I'm extremely happy with performance. Signal strength/coverage is far stronger with no dead zones (3,000 home with coverage reaching outside where I need it. I would have given 5 stars...but I have one issue that I've spent way too much time to resolve. My WD MyCloud2 NAS continues to map as \\WDMYCLOUD\XXX on Windows 10 PC's...so all referenced links work. However, on Windows 7 PC's, those links/mappings didn't carry through...amd appear as \192.168.#.### \XXX. I've NEVER had this problem before. And, I performed all steps to delete/clear/reset the network paths and it still will not pickup the name for the drive mapping. To me, this should be something that should have been addressed in their notes or user forums. I have yet to find that. Except for that, it was well worth the purchase!

Good replacement for an older product

Apple is Apple. No surprises here. The unit does exactly what was expected. I purchased for a family member who had an older model. I'd give it 5 stars. But, I'm personally not a fan of Apple products and the tight reins they have on what they let you do. Samsung, Android, Google and Microsoft products are far more flexible. But, again...that's my preference. As for the family member I bought this for, they love it!

Appreciate the comments from WD. However...

Ran diags...etc. Drive head/reader was flakey. To get the PC to recognize the drive an boot up, I had to tilt the PC tower itself (turn on it's side and back upright). Then, the drive worked fine. Couldn't even use it as a backup given instability. I learned that lesson from when this happen in the past with another WD drive. Reformatting it for backup use only proved to be a waste of time. I destroyed the drives before placing in the trash. If I had an inkling that WD would do something for me, I'd have sent them in even though they were out of warranty. Outside of decent pricing, I'm losing faith in the WD brand. I have 2 drives in a WDMyCloudEX2 NAS. I'm guessing it's going to be time to replace them soon...
