The PC Version of the Franchise
on February 13, 2020

So as we are in an era of "empowerment to women" this was inevitable. Not quite as compelling as the previous 3 films for some reason but a fun caper movie at any rate. Anne Hathaway is stunning as usual, Sandra Bullock does a good job as Danny Ocean's sister and team leader. I suppose there'll be a 9 and a 10 along soon.

A childhood encounter with an alien-and a sighting of the mysterious Men in Black-has led Molly (Tessa Thompson) to spend the last two decades trying to find the elusive agency's headquarters. When she actually does, she's invited to join the team. As Agent M, she's paired with maverick veteran Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) on a mission involving extraterrestrial attacks and a possible mole inside the MIB. Liam Neeson, Emma Thomspon co-star in this fun-filled sequel/soft reboot.

Good Return to the Franchise

A new partnership and more international aspect of the familiar franchise. Hemsworth does comedy pretty well and the story and special FX are good. The revealed "bad guy" is fairly predictable and formulaic but this is a light, fun popcorn movie so who cares, right?

Interesting Look at a Historical Event

Interesting to see the full scope of Neil Armstrong's life and his dedication as well as life struggles. Also the director filmed many of the scenes to insure the audience can experience what it must have felt like to be in his shoes. The film depicts Armstrong as a real human with some of the flaws, which some people have apparently taken offense to. If you need Armstrong to somehow be "deified" then don't watch this film. If you want to see what is probably a more realistic portrayal, then do!

Hilarious Spoof

I admit I'm a huge Jim Jarmusch fan and get his sense of humor. And in this film it's quite deadpan (no pun intended). And who does deadpan better than Bill Murray? The zombies seem more alive and energetic than the very star studded cast assembled here. A lot of Jarmusch regulars like Tilda Swinton and Tom Waits are here. Though Jarmusch is spoofing the genre in general there are a few slight references to other films and (ahem) a certain popular TV show. The characters break through the 4th wall in a couple of scenes which is done well.

Nice Wrap Up
on February 10, 2020

So, if you've seen the first film we get to see the Losers all grown up and dealing with Pennywise 27 years later. The casting for the adult versions was well done. I was actually thinking of Jessica Chastain for part II, and there she is! James McAvoy was also a great choice. In some ways the first film was more gripping and intense for me, but the second gives us new scares and my only complaint would be that the entity "it", was all too easily dispatched in the end, considering it's enormous power. Nice cameo from King himself.

Classic Hoffman

Being a fan of Barry Levinson's films during the 80's, particularly "Diner", this is par for the director's course. Winner of best film, it also put autism on the map for many who were unaware. Great performances by Hoffman and a young Cruise. Entertaining story with a good mix of comedy and drama, something Levinson always does well.

Different version

Hard to get used to the new Hellboy after Ron Perlman's great portrayal and Guillermo del Toro's vision. A relaunch that looks like it's setting up a slightly darker world. Creator Mike Mignola was a producer and seems pleased with the newest vision, which follows his work more closely.

Not Quite...

Not quite up to par with the other two Annabelle films. Not as creepy or scary or perhaps the creepy doll scenario has run it's course? Not a bad film, just feels a bit "safe". This one involves the Warren's daughter, her babysitter and a friend that visits to let Annabelle loose to wreak the usual macabre havoc.

Fun Idea

An alternate timeline where no one ever heard of the Beatles? And a down on his luck musician that remembers and takes advantage of the most popular songs ever written? Yep, a fun concept. Latest film from Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Shallow Grave) A must see for Beatles fans.

This release features every episode from the third season of the drama set in a dystopian future society where fertile women are enslaved as 'handmaids'.

The story is now moving well beyond the original book and it's interesting to see where they are taking it. Some satisfying character developments and surprises.
