Reference level 4k HDR

I have always been a fan of giant monster movies ever since I watched Godzilla 1985 with my dad as a little boy. While this film will not win any awards for acting, the movie itself was a great time. Huge battles, amazing soundtrack, just everything you want in a giant monster movie. I own in 3d and in 4k HDR, both of which are reference level discs. The bright neon lights in Chapter 10 look incredible in HDR as well.

From director Zack Snyder comes InchBatman V Superman Dawn Of Justice,Inch starring Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent in the characters' first big-screen pairing. Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.

I thought the movie was good. I think Man of Steel is DC's best movie to date and this was a close 2nd. Was better the second time around. Looks absolutely stunning in 4k HDR.

Good but not great

I helped a friend buy this who wanted a nice tv but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I have had many top of the line TVs over the years so my frame of reference may be a little different than most. I have owned a Sony 940d, A1E OLED, Z9D, 900E, and 930D...
This tv has very nice colors and good local dimming. The motion is ok, couldn't really find a setting that eliminated all of the stutter without adding interpolation artifacts but it wasn't awful...But I'm really sensitive to motion.
The smart tv platform is great. I wish Sony did Roku instead of Android TV. Although with the recent Android 8.0 update it's WAY better than in times past.
The biggest downside to this tv is the uniformity. Anytime there was a panning shot with even remotely uniform colors there were vertical bands all the way across the tv. This would be a deal breaker for me. But someone who has never owned a really nice tv before may never notice.

I was trying to use with a modded Nintendo Wii. Games would not load from this specific brand of USB drives. Others worked fine, but the old Wii's have an issue with Sandisk cruzer drives for some reason. Sure it would work fine with other applications...

You can believe the hype on this one

I have owned many 75 inch Sony tvs. 940d, 940e, 900e. The 940d was my first Sony and I fell in love instantly. Very good motion handling, very good local dimming, everything about it was awesome. But it had a single vertical band right in the center of the screen that I couldn't ignore. Upgraded to a 940e and it had an incredible picture but there was major trailing on any motion and I couldn't live with it so I sent it back and went with a 900e. Excellent motion and everything looked great. There was some pretty major blooming especially with HDR material but some bias lighting made it almost invisible. But I got a great deal on a z9d (the one I always wanted) and man, it blows them all away. The motion is not quite as smooth as on the 900e but WAY better than the 940e. No trailing at all. Just a little bit of smearing in certain scenes when you have something dark traveling across a light background. But it's not a huge deal by any stretch of the means and I am super sensitive to motion issues. The 75 in has a different panel than the 65 inch and the pixel response is faster. Local dimming is amazing. Even on a brightness level of 15 out of 50 I find my self squinting on some SDR content. HDR is incredible. With the current price drop, this is the 75 in to get. Especially if you like 3d, this set does awesome 3d, there is some flicker but it's not too bad.

Different panels
November 27, 2018
@JET83 This is hard to believe. I would like to see the source as I have owned a 940e and the reported pixel response time of the 65 z9d and 940e are very similar. The pixel response time on the 75 z9d has 0 trailing even with a dark object on a light background and the 940e exhibited TONS of trailing. These were not examples I had seen somewhere but tvs that i owned and had in my own home and was able to do lots of testing.

Different panels is not uncommon
November 28, 2018
@JET83
Differnt panels is not all that uncommon for different size screens even within the same models. Example- The Sony 850c had a VA panel on all screen sized except 75 which was an IPS panel
The Visio M series in 2016 had a 120hz panel for all screen sizes except the 55 which was a 60hz panel. I asked you for a source citing that Sony confirmed that they used the same panel between sizes and your response was all the YouTube reviews said the same thing. I have given you 2 motion test videos on YouTube which clearly show a difference and in the comments section you can see the one with the trailing is a 65 and they state the 75 has a faster panel, and in the video with almost no trailing you can see it is a 75 and in the comments section you can see that there are owners of the 65 that also confirm a little bit of trailing.
I would like to ask the folks at best buy who review these comments before you decide to post them to allow the discussion between @JET83 and myself as I believe this is an important discussion to read for perspective owners as clearly the panels are different between the 65 and 75 in variants of the Sony z9d.

Input lag and pixel response are not the same
December 29, 2018
@JET83
You're confusing pixel response and input lag. 2 different things my man. Pixel response is how long it takes the pixels to transition from one color to another, not how long it takes to react to input...You are dead wrong on this. TVs have different panels for different sizes all the time. IT's well known that the 65 and 75 have different response times. Read the AVSforums. Look at the rtings review. The 65 has a similar response time as the 940e which also had widely reported motion issues. I'm not sure what else I can tell you other than you are wrong and the panels are indeed different. You may not notice anything but that doesn't mean the panels aren't different.

Different panels
January 2, 2019
You are a liar just like rtings. You said Sony confirmed the 2 had different panels. I asked you for proof and you gave nothing. You are a troll and trolling right now. Again, it is not uncommon for different size tvs to have different panels. Some of Vizios panels are 60hz and 120hz for the same model but different sizes. The Sony 850c used a VA panel for every screen size except the 75 which was IPS.
You don't own a 75 so by your own logic you would have no idea. There are too many examples out there of the 65 in having a slower pixel response than the 75. Did you even look at the 2 YouTube links in my prior comment? I do believe rtings has a hard on for OLEDs, but the numbers they use in their measurements are not made up and do line up with user experience.
We can put an end to this debate right now if you provide a source where Sony said the panels of the 2 sizes are the same. If you cannot produce that, you admit to lying and the discussion is over. Have a nice day.

I am a part of that forum dude...And all shark said is that there's no motion problems (for him) I never said the 65 was bad, just that the 75 has a different panel. Spend some more time reading through the forum. You'll find a few owners that have a 75 and 65 that will verify that. I have been on the forum for a long time. You still never posted where Sony verified that they use the same panels...Because they never did.

Hi there. I have the same exact sound bar and use a Sony x700 UHD player. After the Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos update, I get audio drop outs watching 4k blu rays on the Sony x700. Have you noticed any audio dropouts using this player when watching 4k HDR discs since the Atmos update?

Returned for LG C9
By Dewey
Had this tv for two weeks, excellent picture quality, excellent upscaling, ok operating system, HDMI 2.0, dim Dolby Vision: The main reason I returned this tv was because every time I turned the eARC on the tv would go into standby mode, black screen with Bravia logo, I found one other person on the AVS forum that had the same problem. I contacted Sony and they could not help, the geek squad came to the house and they could not solve, I even did a factory reset and that didn’t work. The only way I could watch tv without it going into standby was to turn eARC to off. I have an eARC compatible sound bar so I wanted this feature to work, for what I paid for this tv I expected everything to work, so I decided to exchange for the 77’ LG C9. Best Buy was excellent, this was a return/exchange/upgrade, they came and removed the the AG9 and set up the C9, I also purchased Tech Support for one year as well as the five year extended warranty. The C9 is an excellent tv, the picture quality and the upscaling aren’t as good as the Sony, but very close, in my opinion. The C9 also has HDMI 2.1 and the eARC works flawlessly with my sound bar, love the C9 operating system too. I think the Sony A9G is an excellent tv, I just happened to get a defective panel, I also think their Dolby Vision is dim, the C9 is brighter.

Is eARC necessary?
May 19, 2020
Is there a particular reason you "have" to use eARC? Do you have all of your devices plugged into the TV and just a single cable running to the sound bar? Does your sound bar allow for inputs to connect to it. The reason I ask is that because the ONLY advantage of eARC over standard ARC is that you can transmit lossless Dolby Atmos vs Lossy Dolby Atmos. Streaming services do not use lossless. So unless you have to have all your external devices plugged directly into the TV rather than into your soundbar you don't need eARC. Also, you have a sound bar. It's highly unlikely you'd be able to tell the difference between lossy and lossless Atmos with a soundbar. I have a soundbar as well - Nakamichi Shockwafe. Best Atmos sound bar you can buy. Can't tell much of a difference...

Why has Sony not abandoned X Wide Angle? The hit to contrast and blooming might be worth it if it massively improved viewing angles, but it barely improves them. Please abandon it. All I own are Sony tvs, but I haven't bought a new one in years.
