Although it can be hokie in some aspects, ID is a great flick, especially if you're a sci fi junkie. Color looks great with 4k, as well as the added clarity. The best point of this 4k copy is that the extended edition is also mastered in 4k...not something you see often with 4k movies that have extended editions or a director's cut included. Also nice that it was on sale as part of a 2 movie for $20 sale at BB...saved over $14 on both. Would definitely recommend.

Good 4k version, but....

Great movie, so jumped at the chance to get the 4k copy. The 4k version looks crisp and clear, but really not much better than the HD streaming versions I've seen. There's a video on YouTube titled "Why older movies look better in 4k than newer ones." Good video that gives the technical reasons why. Major complaint about all versions of this movie I've seen is that the vocal tracks are recorded incredibly low. Overall, I would still recommend for your collection.

Classic movie in 4k!

Recently purchased a 4k system and have started upgrading my library. Pulled the trigger and it didn't disappoint. The upgraded clarity really stands out and the HDR really makes the color pop. The effects stand up well, although the plasma streams look minutely outdated. Not enough to distract from the overall viewing experience, though. I would highly recommend this title for anyone looking to upgrade.

Episodes like Turu the Terrible, The Robot Spy, and The Invisible Monster were engrained into my childhood. Upgraded my tv last August, a 65 inch LG sk8000pua with an X Box One X. Perfectly happy with this setup until suggested videos on YouTube started popping up concerning problems with the One X as a blu ray/4k player. Started watching and after many videos and related articles, this seemed to be a valid concern. Started research into a possible stand alone player and this one kept showing up. After many glowing reviews, mostly about performance and price, I made the purchase.
The most notable thing out of the box about this player is the size, smaller than most. That can be said of the remote as well. Comparably small next to my other remotes. No display on the front panel, but I can live with that. It as a plastic door that drops down as the disc tray ejects...seems a little flimsy. The amount of apps available is disappointing. Only useful ones are Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Where this player really shines is playing discs. As with all 4k devices, it takes awhile to get the settings down to your liking. Once I did with the tv and this player, the difference from the X Box was like night and day! Crisper picture, deeper and richer colors as well. It also upscaled content so it breathes life back into your old library.
One of the points to buying this player was being Dolby Vision compatible. I've noticed that while while watching content in Dolby Vision, the color and picture seemed slightly washed out. A friend of mine who works at a major online electronics retailer explained that today's tv's aren't fully capable to reproduce the DV signal. Believe me, that's just fine because HDR-10 works just as well, in my opinion.
Don't shy away from checking to see if this player is available on open box. I got mine for $120 and I consider that a steal.
I would highly recommend this player, especially if you are using a console for streaming or watching content on discs...you will not be disappointed!

Recently purchased a Sony 4k player and wanted to start upgrading my library. Shopped my local Best Buy and made this purchase. Like the title says, I wanted the 4k version, but I believe that will be released in August. The main reason for the purchase is that I didn't have a physical copy and it has very limited runs on streaming services...less now since Disney is moving all its content to its own streaming service.
No problems with the picture quality. The 4k player upscaled the picture and that's a big plus.
I would definitely recommend this product, but if you want the 4k version, just wait till August.

Game of Thrones is one of the greatest shows in television history (not counting Season 8) and the 4k release of Season 1 doesn't disappoint. Originally around the $50 mark at its release, I ordered it from Best Buy for $24.99...prompt 2 day delivery as well.
GoT 4k is one of the handful of releases that are Dolby Vision compatible. Recently purchased a Sony UGP-x700 to play Dolby Vision content. Set it up and watched a few episodes and I noticed the Dolby Vision seemed to make the picture slightly washed out, as compared to running it in HDR-10. A friend of mine that works for a major online electronic retailer explained that today's tv's aren't totally capable of matching what Dolby Vision puts out, saying DV can output X amount of nits of brightness and current tv's brightness levels fall short of being able to handle it. Great overall picture, but has some problems with motion being slightly choppy. Problem with blooming with Xbox One X I have connected. Overall, would recommend this for the cost, but if I had to do over, would probably choose the 9000 series which has full array backlighting.

BB says they're in stock but when you order, it gives you a pick up date which is in no way reliable. Mine was due to be picked up last Friday and it still says its delayed. Also the delay email came with a disclaimer...if it can't be fulfilled by December 30th, the order will be canceled.
