Dazzling, Vibrant And Awesome

Presenting again with another, hopefully not lengthy review before I forget what I've seen a couple of days ago. The Nightmare Before Christmas comes with 2 discs, 1 Blu-ray and 1 Disney Disc
Another film from the maker of "Coraline" Henry Selick. The film retains 1:66:1 AR with aa small pillarbox bars on the sides of the 16:9 frame. The picture is amazing, dazzling, and vivid, revealing even a small detail (if you watch closely). The puppets in this film looked stunning and the colors were flawless throughout the film. I thought my screen had problems but found out that the film itself has high color details. Not surprised with Disney's BD authoring process though!. Not to forget the transfer was good at the average of 31mbps.
I must admit this is a well-crafted stop motion animation although it was done years ago and I truly enjoyed the musical show. As usual, not gonna excessively write about sound as chosen Dolby True HD 7.1 and it sounded amazing for such an old animated film. The bass was good somehow. Precisely refined sound and good work was done over here. The Extras are another major highlight of the release. It has plenty of Extras to watch as I've skipped them for now.

Great Movie, Hasn't Aged Well

Harry Hamlin stars as Perseus, son of Zeus. Perseus must face many challenges along his road to destiny and to save the beautiful princess Andromeda from the vengeful goddess Thetis. Supporting Hamlin is a large cast of names including Burgess Meredith, Ursula Andress, Maggie Smith, and Laurence Olivier as Zeus. Harryhausen's special effects are the highlight of this entertaining fantasy.
This is not a simple image to review. Most of the special effects shots, of which there are quite a few, are noticeably aged with the creature being shot separately from the rest of the image. This is a standard trick, but quite noticeable on any outdoor action sequences. Indoor sequences fair much better than their open-air counterparts. I applaud warner for not attempting to reign in the disparate images, as we would not then have some of the amazing sequences that we do see.
While the special effects haven't aged particularly well, the story is a classic.

Funny, lighthearted and enjoyable movie

This movie was shot with Arri Alexa Mini & SXT cameras and finished at a 3.4k Digital Intermediate, so you will get a bit of an upscaled 4k image for this release. As per the norm with UHD releases, it was also given an HDR color grade for your viewing pleasure in both Dolby Vision and HDR10.
When it comes to the grain levels, there’s a light layer present — the only time you’ll see it consistently is in the Hall of Champions with the work of atmospherics. There are a few soft shots during a few night scenes, but nothing to poke at — even though this film was shot digitally I felt like there was a bit of a filmatic aspect to it, but maybe that was just me.
This is another case where the HDR plays a bigger factor than the upgrade in resolution with UHD. In Shazam! the HDR adds its touches of work in almost every frame — you will see heightened textures on rocks, walls, pillars, buildings, asphalt, etc. You will see this a bunch of times in high action scenes and every time lightning is in play, it looks amazing. On top of this, the black levels hold true to tone in various scenes in the car in Chapter 1, scenes that take place in the Hall of Champions, under the darkness of night, etc. Don’t get my wrong, it is a jump over the Blu-ray in all aspects, including resolution — it’s just that the HDR steals the show.
When it comes to those details, you will notice more on the UHD like the scale textures on Shazam’s suit, wool on gloves and other pieces of clothing, plus the sweeping shots of snowy Philadelphia look great too! You will get some up-close shots (something that UHD shines in) enhancing pores, wrinkles, blemishes, facial hair, cuts, and sweat — just not in abundance.
Something I was worried about with this disc is the question of: would the CGI hold up? The 7 deadly sins monsters are full-blown CGI so I was worried the added resolution and HDR would enhance the fact that they weren’t actually in the shot. Good news! Warner Bro’s did a great job on the rendering on this film, it’s not distracting at all. Chapter 7 reveal looks great and the up-close detail can be noticed when the opportunity arises.
One highlight that I noted was a scene that took place in Chapter 9, the scene where Shazam saves a group of citizens on the bus. It’s a very clear, high-quality scene that showcases the red suit against the bright white snow from multiple angles. The HDR shines pushing color, brightness, and detail all over the screen. Eye-candy.
I’ve read mixed reviews on this movie, but nothing too negative — it varies from very positive to right in the middle. I’m on the very positive side of things because the movie knew exactly what it wanted to achieve, and it did just that. The way I would compare this movie to those who haven’t seen it; it’s Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It isn’t at the level of Guardians, but it’s DC’s lighthearted, funny superhero movie — something to take away from the dark and serious nature of previous films. I hope we see more Zachary Levi as Shazam! for not only a sequel but with other DC heroes on screen.
With all that in mind you easily have my recommendation to pick this movie up, it’s a great addition to add to your UHD collection.

A fantastic end to a great series. The only warranted complaint is that the game is long, which it is. But why do people think that's a bad thing? You're getting more for your money. The story in Uncharted 4 is better than in previous installments, I got pretty invested in what was going on whereas in previous games the story was fairly dull and forgettable. The new stealth feature makes for some genuinely fun gameplay to break up the monotonous string of gunfights common to the series. I hate multiplayer and usually don't play it, but I think I will play the Uncharted 4 multiplayer because the gameplay is just that good! Overall it's a great game, and I recommend it.

Go back to the beginning in this reimagined version of Ratchet & Clank for the PlayStation 4. Its deepened origin story is revealed through over an hour of cinematic movie sequences, and the new planets, game play and boss battles keep the experience fresh. Protect the Solana Galaxy again with the robust arsenal of weapons in Ratchet & Clank.

Great game - tons of fun all around

This is a joy to play for any Ratchet & Clank fan from the initial runs on the PS2 and brings back that same fluid gameplay of the original few games. The game is a re-imagining of the first game so it treads similar grounds as that game in terms of the storyline but it still feels fresh as the gameplay upgrades definitely make it worth playing.
The storyline is funny and zany and it's clear that the game doesn't take itself too seriously which is great these days for gamers who are tired of the mature storylines that are so commonplace these days.
There are a huge variety of weapons and each has its uses. There is a leveling up system for both the characters and weapons which adds some grind ability to the game as well as a new game + type mode which allows you to keep your weapons and play at a harder difficulty.
The only downside is that the game is relatively short but the lower price still makes it a great deal because I had a ton of fun playing this game. It brought me back to the early days of gaming and showed me again why I loved games as a kid. It's a simple third-person shooter with great platforming and shooting mechanics that plays great and is a lot of fun throughout.

Great Release

It took a little longer but the wait was well worth it to finally get the Original film version of Hellboy to be issued on 4K-UHD disc. Not only did Sony provide the sought after theatrical cut of the film but we also get the Director's Cut of the film boosting this set along with a full range of extra's on the remastered Blu to boot. Welcome to the wonderful world of writer/director Guillermo Del Toro whose ultimate visionary style of whit for humor makes this film version the best. Ron Pearlman is perfectly cast as he gives this big beast a great touch of humor and compassion that takes you inside this fantasy world and keeps you on the hook to the final credits. Doug Jones as Abe, Selma Blair as Liz and John Hurt as Professor Broom all give fantastic performances that make this a fun entertaining film. Sony UHD looks perfect with a natural film grain and deep colors. The HDR pass really represents this film well with each catacomb of darkness looking good. The Atmos track is clean and clear, not a completely fully ranged track but solid nonetheless. Just some commentaries are found on the UHD for extras. The BD contains just the Director's Cut with a huge amount of extra's that makes this title a welcomed member to the UHD family and collectors alike.....
