For the 35th Anniversary of the 1985 original, Universal Home Video has assembled a terrific 4K UHD set of all three films in the "Back to the Future" series. The first remains one of the best commercial releases of the 1980s, while the 1989 second installment continues to be one of my least favorite sequels. The series redeems itself with the 1990 concluding chapter, which jettisons the frantic nature of the second film and returns to what made the original so great: character and plot. The new transfers look great, and there are enough extras to keep fans happy for hours on end.
This release brings together every entry into Peter Jackson's critically-acclaimed The Lord of the Rings trilogy, based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. Hobbit Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship embark on a dangerous quest to destroy the One Ring, and with it, its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron, in order to save Middle Earth forever. Included here are The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).

Well, what can one say about these films that hasn't been said before? They're modern-day classics, ones that are given a very nice upgrade to the 4K UHD format. While this set does include both the theatrical and extended editions of all three films in the "Lord of the Rings" saga, the copious amounts of supplemental material that has graced previous editions have not been included. That said, a super deluxe 4K UHD edition of all six "Middle Earth" films is set for a release next summer that will most likely carry over all of the previous extras (and apparently some new ones as well). If you just want the films, this is the way to go.

Neill Blomkamp's 2009 sleeper sci-fi hit still packs a punch even after eleven years. A smart mix of social commentary and adult science fiction, this film remains the standout in Blomkamp's career. Sony's UHD looks terrific, a big step up over the blu-ray release from '09. Recommended!

The original Blu-ray release of 2015's "Inside Out" was a terrific-looking presentation in its own right, but the new UHD edition manages to improve on it considerably. Colors are vibrant without being over-saturated, the detail on the picture is first rate and the sound is actually pretty good for a Disney UHD release. If you're a big fan of the film and are planning on picking up the title, go with Best Buy's steelbook presentation. As is the case with 98% of their 4K release, the artwork on the regular UHD edition is a Photoshop nightmare.
This set features the first four entries in the Daniel-Craig era of the 007 franchise, following British secret service superspy James Bond as he takes on a series of villains to save the world. Included here are Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre.

James Bond makes his debut in the UHD format with this new set containing the past four 007 adventures starring Daniel Craig. While the 4K transfers on "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace" are decent upgrades over their Blu-ray counterparts, the transfers for "Skyfall" and "Spectre" are the ones that really shine here.
The previously-released Blu-ray editions of each film is also included, which is a good thing since the UHD editions are virtually without any bonus material ('Casino Royale' and 'Skyfall' have audio commentaries, but that is it).
Speaking of bonus material, if you're a serious fan of the franchise and extras are important to you, you might want to track down a copy of Sony's 2-disc edition of "Casino Royale" as a good amount of the extras on that set are not included here. Just an FYI.
Overall, this is a solid upgrade for your UHD collection. And for $40, it was a no-brainer for me.

Released nearly 25 years ago, Martin Scorsese's "Casino" had the misfortune of living under the shadow of his previous mob flick "Goodfellas." Not surprising, given the fact that both had scripts written by Scorsese and Nicholas Pileggi, both were headlined by Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci and both were long, often violent films based on real-life events.
But where "Goodfellas" was a tight, engrossing crime epic that never slowed down, "Casino" is a film that flirts with greatness but in the end eventually comes up short. Don't get me wrong. It's a rock solid film. But at 179 minutes, it is one that features a lot of repetition in its second and third acts. What to drop? A few scenes of domestic strife between Ace Rothstein (DeNiro) and his drugged-out wife Ginger (played impressively by Sharon Stone) and perhaps some of Nicky Santoro's (Pesci) criminal activity could have been lost without losing any of the story's impact.
Universal Home Video has done a great job at bringing "Casino" to the UHD format. It's a major leap in picture quality over the older blu-ray release (which is included here). Black levels, picture detail and color are all handled perfectly here. The audio is fine as well, although I didn't notice any difference over the blu-ray during a brief comparison.

You have to hand it to the makers of the "John Wick" series: they give their fans exactly what they want and they find new and inventive ways to keep it interesting. While the plot is on the basic side -John is still on the run and still mowing down anyone who gets in his way of survival-, the film's pacing, beautifully choreographed action and solid performances from the entire cast make you forget about that aspect pretty quickly. If you enjoyed the first two "John Wick" flicks, you'll dig this.
The UHD looks and sounds terrific, and it's nice that Lionsgate has included the supplemental material on the UHD instead of forcing the viewer to switch discs to watch them. One major complaint about this release is how Lionsgate is handling the Digital Code for the film. You need to download an app in order to redeem it, which is ridiculous. Come on, Lionsgate. Keep it simple.

Disney's 4K UHD transfer of 2008's "Iron Man" is overall a pleasing effort, even if digital noise reduction takes away a certain amount of film grain and the release lacks the second disc of supplements found in Paramount's original 2008 Blu-ray release. If you still have the original 2-disc set, you might want to hold onto it if you're a fan of bonus material.
Overall, the UHD edition is a worthy upgrade. Colors are stronger on this release and despite the presence of noise reduction, there is a noticeable amount of improved detail. As for the film, it remains a fun kickoff for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Is the steelbook worth it? It is if you're like me and want the original poster art on the cover. It's far more appealing than the dreadful Photoshop monstrosities the regular editions are released in.

The 40th Anniversary Edition of Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 classic has everything you could possibly want at a ridiculously low price: three cuts of the film -including the new 181 minute "Final Cut"- available in both 4K Ultra HD and standard 1080p blu-ray and hours upon hours of bonus material old and new should keep fans immersed for quite some time.
The only possible downside is the packaging is a bit iffy. But taking into consideration the amount of product you get for the price it is selling for, it's easy to overlook the overall packaging. If you're a fan of the film, this purchase is a no-brainer.

I wasn't the biggest fan of "Toy Story 3" when it hit theaters. I thought it was good, but a bit of a step down from the previous two entries. Still, it was a film worthy of ownership and upgrading, which is what I did with the new UHD steelbook edition. The artwork is simple but nice and it's great that Disney included the extras found in the original blu-ray release. As for the Picture and Audio quality, both are excellent.
