Fun flick

A lot of the reviews here focus on technical details related to the various digital formats the film has been available in. A few of the other reviews focus on the politics of the movie as contrasted with the politics of the book. I want to start someplace different than either of those two approaches. To me, this movie is campy, cheesy, and over the top. Yet somehow it is still an engaging war story that grabs you and drags you along with the action. Heck, even the wooden acting by some of the main characters works as part of the campy fun. And the movie really is fun, so I'm happy to give it four stars.

Fabulous surprise ending

This is one of Ed Helms' best. The concept is very juvenile as you expect, however the execution is pretty advanced, mostly on Jeremy Renner's part. It keeps you laughing and falling more in love with each of these actors/actresses. Although I figured out the ending somewhere around the first meeting of Leslie Bibb, I still really enjoyed it. You will laugh and cry and enjoy your evening....so long as you already like the cast.

I love anything with Adam Sandler and Jennifer, they are wonderful together. This book is no different. Lauren is recently divorced, is dealing with a jerk of an ex. She has 2 sons. Jim is a widower, trying to raise 3 daughters on his own. They get set up on a blind date and it's horrible. They can't stand each other. They run into each other a few times since. It isn't until circumstances set them up in Africa on a vacation for blended families (of which the staff presume they are) that they really get to know each other. Lauren is kind and caring to his daughters and they adore her. Jim is the male figure her sons have been looking for. As they grow to respect each other as parents, they find they really do like each other.

Frank Oz's comedy about a needy psychiatric patient comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. The only extra feature is the original theatrical trailer. This release is sure to please fans of this film -- there is a small cult following around it -- but those that were immune to its charms during its theatrical release are not likely to be won over by this average DVD.

As a fan of the Original Invasion of the Body Snatchers & the 1978 ensemble cast remake of it, this one doesn't rank very high as a "Re-Make". While it isn't bad per se, it isn't that good either. It does have a few memorable moments. Such moments include Meg Tilly's character's chilling speech about where her family is going to go & Forrest Whittiker's frantic realization of what's happening.

At an urban VFW post, the old soldiers would hang out sharing war stories from days gone by. A 90 min scuzzball, genre gore-fest...and an absolute blast. It would make a great double-feature with Assault on Precinct 13. Especially since it's Carpenter-esque qualities are undeniable. Great cast, kill gags and practical effects.

Animation is great! Dreamworks did a great job. Even though its not in 4k, it looks amazing to watch on my 4k monitor. Color is vivid and sharp. The landscapes come alive, almost seem a little real. The caricatures are cute, silly and funny. From every facial expression to the tiny hairs and fur on the animals. They are seem to come alive. This is one of those movies I love and have watched many times. I think a good chance you will love it too!
