Excellent and believable movie where prisoners are left to fend for themselves on Manhattan island. Snake Plisken (Kurt Russell) is sent (in exchange for a full pardon of crimes) to recuse the president whose plane crashed behind prison boundaries. During his mission he encounters all kinds of creeps, slime, punks and freaks. One of Kurt Russell's best roles and the movie has become a cult favorite. Supporting cast is also great including Brain and his squeeze, cabbie, and of course the Duke of NY.. Nobody messes with the Duke! Hey Plisken...I heard you were dead..Excellent movie with plenty of action and violence worthy of the R rating...

A guilty pleasure

This is one of my favorite movies. Yes, I know its low budget and rife with plot holes, but its above all fun to watch. What works best about this movie is that it takes pn the personality of the setting: sparse and immediate. There is no great reveal, and they don't bog things down by trying to explain where the car came from or what its doing. We know as much as the characters and that build the (admittedly minimal) suspense.

Not as good as EFNY but still fun

Back when Escape from LA was first released, a lot of people complained about the somewhat primitive CGI instead of the practical effects, just like they did with Romero's last zombie efforts. Criticizing this movie today for the same reason is, for example, like trying to bash Ray Harryhausen 's movies, the original Howling or even Terminator 2. Looking at all the gender, homeland security and body alteration issues covered by this movie, which are mostly the same the media covers today, I would say Carpenter is nothing short of a visionary and my conclusion is this: Escape From NY was as relevant back in 2001 as this one is these days, except that, arguably, Carpenter missed the mark for a couple of years (it's set on 2013).

The DCEU got it right

This lifelong comic book fan must admit, I was never a big fan of the original Captain Marvel, or Shazam, as he has become known; until recently, I have always been a diehard Marvel Comics guy, and I long considered that other Captain Marvel to be a corny character from a long gone era, one whom DC Comics kept trying to breathe life into repeatedly ever since they bought the rights to him in the early 70’s. To me, this square stiff couldn’t hold a candle to Spider-Man and the members of the Fantastic Four; at best it was a comic book for little kids. But times do change, today, I find myself buying more DC titles than Marvel, and the Rebirth version of Shazam managed to draw my interest, and as someone who tries never to miss a live action comic book movie, there was no way I was going not see the live action SHAZAM!

As a long time fan of the series, I've been waiting for this movie for a very long time. I'm pleasantly surprised by the film as it had great action scenes, beautiful CGI, stunning choreography and directing during the complex fight scenes and a cohesive story. I enjoyed following Alita's journey and seeing, on screen, a strong female protagonist. The cast was wonderful and I really enjoyed the ties back to the manga. Many moments and scenes from the comic made it into the film so that was a delight to see. Overall, I hope this franchise has a future and more films continue to come! This is the movie I waited over 20 years to see!

This story is captivating and frustrating. The characters especially Michael Keaton's role is all kinds of crazy. Makes you wonder who your neighbors are and whether or not being a property owner is worth it. A lot of twists and turns. Great thriller movie with strong actors. Melanie Griffith redeems herself later in the movie as I didn't find her very riviting, until later...wish she had that same kind of Tess McGill tenacity like in Working Girl, but she does come through in the end.

Jim Carrey delivers an outrageous performance in this fall-down, flat-out, irresistibly deranged movie (Rolling Stone). Rhode Island state trooper Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey) proves that nice guys finish first after marrying the prettiest gal in the land.
