Big fan of the show, and a big fan of Trent Reznor’s soundtrack work. The artwork and liner notes posit the album as a work that was released in this parallel Watchmen universe and it really creates an otherworldly experience. I had streamed the albums prior, but the albums and artwork take you into that world in a more immersive way.

Great Way to Hear this Album

I’ve had this on my Saved List for a while, and it seems to come and go in terms of availability. Once it sold out so I streamed it instead and it was a “meh” experience- I had a hunch this vinyl version would sound better. I finally got a copy and it is indeed very warm, wonderful low end, and very clear. Also comes with a very nice booklet looking back on the album. Worth it.

My daughter is a big ST fan, and as someone who grew up in the 80’s, this really hits the spot for both of us. Great collection of (mainly) new wave pop songs. Snippets of dialogue pop up throughout it, making it a fun mixtape of sorts. A fun way to revisit these tunes, and makes a good case for another generation to enjoy them as well.

I’ve been a longtime Death in Vegas fan, and while I preferred their psychedelic stuff with the guitars, I quite like the hypnotic, electric sounds that came out of their later years. DiV mastermind continues along that route here. A lot of ambient moments coupled with busier pieces. More of a chill out album than a set of bangers for the dance floor.
Also- great price for a 2LP set.

Atmos and Quality

I enjoy the Apple Music interface best, but I wanted to stream surround sound and Tidal is currently the only game in town. They have a pretty good selection of Dolby Atmos mixes, and they add more weekly, barring a few dry spells. I wish it was easier to find Atmos mixes on the app, but it can be done with a little work (and they do have a few playlists highlighting them). Tidal has also been helpful in making recommendations I have never heard of prior but have been thrilled to discover. Tidal is t my first choice, but they are worth adding if you want to dig deeper or enjoy surround sound.

The album itself is perfect psychedelic soul music from top to bottom, perhaps more soothing than stirring, but that’s simply my assessment and definitely not a complaint. Not my first choice for basic music streaming, but Tidal has a decent, and growing, selection of Atmos mixed music, and that’s been the main draw for me. Finding my away around the app can be cumbersome, but it has some good features. Best Buy seems to have a variety of deals with Tidal, depending on when you look. I think I am getting a better deal than an average, non BB customer. There may be even better deals available through them.
