This game first released on 3DS, and though I never picked it up then, I remember really wanting it. Always have been a big fan of action rpgs, so I was eager to pick up when it got this touched up port for Switch...and it's fantastic. The game has aged pretty well, and looks great. Highly recommend, especially for fans of Nicalis.

Team up with CommanderVideo once again in Runner3 for Nintendo Switch. He's back with all-new adventures, including hero quests and vehicle sequences. This game might feel like a cell phone game by design, but it just is so much more. Those infinite running games on cell phone have never really held my interest for very long, but this game is just feels really fleshed out. It's just a really charming game. I think it's a bit expensive, however, and I'd just pick it up on a sale though.

It's okay, but look at the competition

The game is pretty fun, but nothing special. It's nowhere near as good as Mario Kart if we're being honest. It released last year I think, so maybe it found a home as a second kart racer for those who really love them, but now that both Team Sonic Racing AND CTR have both released it finds itself with just too much competition. I'd probably give this a 4 star on PS4 and XB1 where Mario Kart doesn't exist, but since this is the Switch version this is decidedly a fourth choice.

This is a really fun and polished platform fighter. I really enjoyed my time with it and honestly it's a game that everyone should play...except that Smash Bros exists. That's really the only reason I knocked a star off too. The game is great, but there's very little reason to buy this with Smash Bros on the market. Now, to be fair I'm rating this 4 stars because I'm reviewing the Switch version specifically, however, I'd give the PS4 or XB1 versions 5 star ratings since there's nothing as monstrous as Smash Bros on those platforms. Still a fantastic game, but if you have Smash Bros then there's really no need to pick this up unless you REALLY love platform fighters.

Solid, but there's just one tiny problem

So, as far as the game goes it's fantastic. Looks great, sounds great, plays great and is quite polished. The team mechanic is definitely unique and makes the game feel fresh.
But the problem is that Mario Kart exists...and is better in pretty much every way. I knocked off one star because I'm reviewing the Switch version though. On PS4 and XB1 where Mario Kart doesn't exist I'd give it a 5 stars probably. The team mechanic is just too niche to make this game a viable alternative to Mario Kart.
All that said, it's still a great game, but if you have Mario Kart you'll only want this if you REALLY love kart racers.

Compilations are often great because they let you play a bunch of great titles. The original Halo was a system seller and the second was a game that really made online gaming for consoles take off. The third was the end of an era and one of the best games of the year. The fourth wasn't quite on the same level, but it was still good and it's relatively newer. All four of these games in one pack. Oh, and did I mention the first three have gotten a huge facelift? Totally worth it and a must own for the system.

So happy this found it's way to Switch. I was eager to play it again when it came out on PS4, but I just didn't have the time. On Switch I can play it anywhere though and that has been surprisingly wonderful. The Zodiac Age version adds to character customization that wasn't in the original PS2 release and has been far more engaging than back then.
