Written and directed by InchAlienInch scripter Dan O'Bannon, this ghoulish shocker serves up heaping helpings of gory terror and camp humor. A toxic gas re-animates a dead body which, once it's remains are burned, creates acid rain that turns a cemetery full of corpses into monstrous zombies with (in the first film to feature it) a taste for human brains. Thom Matthews, James Karen, Clu Gulager, and Linnea Quigley star. 91 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Three-disc set.

This is a movie I've always loved, though yes I think it's goofy/campy/silly. I don't even usually like zombie movies that much, but I have always liked this one. The 4K scan is excellent, the source elements appear to have been in good shape, and so the image quality is great. The DoblyVision does excellent work capturing the colors, overall the image is very filmic. Audio is very good, and includes a 2.0 mono mix.

The video/audio is excellent in this release, as might be expected. This was my second viewing (after a cinematic view), and I did not really love the movie either time. I did not entirely hate it either, it's fine for a dino-chase-fight movie, and like the first time I saw it, I thought the later half was better than the first half, where things seemed to drag. Though the second half gets a bit tiresome. Nonetheless entertaining if you like your dino-movies, so I do still find it entertaining enough for genre fans.

The movie gets a lot of flack for being silly, which it is in the beginning. I was almost ready to dismiss it after the first half hour. But it does pick up, though perhaps thanks to stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, who instill the characters with the proper substance. The story has more substance later in the film, and more interesting, though I can understand those who might dislike it. The video/audio is excellent.

It's been quite a while since I saw this, and revisiting the movie, it was quite a bit better than I remembered. The video is excellent, as is the audio, a very nice example of the 4K format. It was quite amusing to see Tom Cruise is a role where his character is a bit wimpy (i.e. the beginning, no spoiler if you've never seen the film, but his arc is believable, and the premise of the movie works much better than I remembered).
Baz Luhrmann's expectedly electric biopic of the King of Rock 'n' Roll offers an arresting central performance by Austin Butler, as the peaks and valleys of Elvis Presley's performing career are recounted through the deathbed reflections of ex-manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), the Southern Svengali who cannily trained the Tupelo youngster's charismatic gifts on the American public-and just as ruthlessly exploited them. Olivia DeJonge, Richard Roxburgh, Helen Thomson also star. 159 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

Watching this movie I realize I knew almost nothing about Elvis. Not that I think this movie might be strictly historically accurate, but it did give me a nice glimpse into Elvis the phenomenon through Elvis the person. The video/audio is excellent, very true to the cinematic presentation, audio is definitely well-balanced.

Cool movie, I had my doubts, but it was very much more balanced and on-point than I expected it might be. The video/audio is excellent here, very well done 4K scan with excellent HDR (great color capture and not overly bright), audio sounds great in my 5.1 system.

Problematic scan, but still an upgrade, great film

Excellent movie, I have not seen it in quite a while, and was pleased to rediscover it. The editing and balance is top-notch, there is a bonus disc with tons of deleted scenes. Very fascinating stuff, but you can easily see why the final product was the best edit, and top-notch editing. That all said, the video scan is a problem with this release. I compared with the previous HD version, and it may be an issue with the previous restoration, possibly a scan prepared for that previous release. There is some really great HDR color capture here. However the definition is a big problem, with excellent contrast in many places, but way too many places where waxy faces reveal some sort of over-processing. It's a strange effect of seeing some excellent definition and color, but some scenes where the faces (especially) seem unfocused of sorts, which has a weird effect when other details are clear and nicely presented. And THAT all said, this is worth the upgrade just for that better scan that you do get, and the vastly better color capture you get with the HDR scan.
Charming Yuletide laughs blend with fish-out-of-water antics in this hilarious holiday tale that stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a regular guy who was raised in the North Pole as one of Santa's helpers. Towering over everyone around him, Buddy finally realizes he may actually not be an elf and sets off on a fun-filled New York adventure to find his real family. Top-notch supporting cast includes Zooey Deschanel, James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner, Peter Dinklage, and Bob Newhart; directed by Jon Favreau. 95 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

I had not seen this movie, and took a chance to buy it. I really enjoyed the movie, though I don't always like Will Ferrell movies, I think he was very well suited to this particular movie. The 4K scan and HDR color capture is excellent, very filmic presentation, part of a group of Christmas movies from Warner, they seem to have done excellent work keeping an accurate scan of the film print for home video release.
Based on short stories by and narrated by Jean Shepherd, this hilarious and enjoyable holiday yarn chronicles a young boy's attempts at getting what he really wants for Christmas a Red Ryder BB gun. Widescreen; Soundtracks English DTS HD mono Master Audio, French Dolby Digital mono, Spanish Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles English (SDH), French, Spanish; audio commentary; featurettes. Two-disc set.

I had never seen this movie, in fact I was not really aware of this movie until maybe 10 years ago. It was a popular movie I never really expected would be good, but I did enjoy it, albeit the later half of the movie more than the first half (for some reason). The video is excellent, they probably did some amount of restoration, and the scan is excellent, VERY filmic, not a DolbyVision scan but the HDR is excellent, there are no wild fluctuations in the scenes that DV would really benefit, the regular HDR covers the film well. Audio is very good, clear and clean.
It's a comedic carol of calamities as only the Griswold family can deliver as Clark (Chevy Chase) has his heart set on hosting an old-fashioned family Christmas. But he may change his mind when faced with a house full of bickering relatives, malfunctioning decorations, and uncertainty over his Christmas bonus. And what holiday celebration would be complete without the boorish Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid)? Beverly D'Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, Julia Louis-Dreyfus also star. 97 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

I had never seen this movie, I was not sure I would like it. But it was very good, it's the same "vehicle" as the other Vacation movies but with the John Hughes touch, so not just totally crass. The video is top notch here, the restoration team did a great job with the scan both for definition and colors, which are not saturated and overly bright, but accurate and even. Audio is also excellent.
