Experienced No Audio Problem

I had forgotten to preorder this steelbook and was relieved when my local BB had several copies on hand the day after its release. After reading several reviews expressing problems with the audio ("white noise" and "too much gain") I purchased a copy with trepidation and checked its playback upon arriving home. Using a Sony UPB-X700 player and through a Sony HT-A5000 smart soundbar, sub and rear speakers system, in conjunction with Sony's OLED "Acoustic Surface" (which are actuators affixed to the back of the panel), the Dolby DTS HD 7.1 audio track was crisp, clear and full - no noise whatsoever. Dialog was easily distinguishable at all times. On the Sony 77 XR A80L OLED, the picture quality is breathtaking. The transfer is exquisite especially given the fact that this was shot 30 years ago stop-motion on Eastman 5248 film stock. The blacks hold up to anything being done today with state of the art digital equipment. I'm am sorry to have read that others may have received bad copies but that should not deter anyone that is thinking of purchasing a copy.

One small glitch with Sony Speakers

These mounts provide for a clean speaker installation and are very easy to attach to drywall and adjust the speaker position (pitch and swivel). Unfortunately the screws provided with the Sinus mounts for attaching to speakers don't fit the Sony - SA-RS3S. The thread is much too large. We used 5M 10L screws and it fit perfectly. Extremely stable and attractive speaker mounts.

Worth Every Penny

Upon completion of the installation of a solar system which provides us with all our electricity needs+ and given the recent rate increases of natural gas, we decided to switch over to an electric range/oven from a conventional gas appliance. After researching the varied types and styles of cooking appliances, we decided on the Samsung 6.3 cu. ft. Slide-in Induction Range with Flex Duo oven. We have other Samsung appliances including a washer and a dryer and have been very happy with their products.
The Flex Duo oven has numerous features including the capability to use a removable partition for baking two different dishes with separate temperatures and different timers. The oven partition when in place activates the oven for dual programing and which can be stored in the bottommost compartment of the unit along with the air fry tray included. We have baked chicken breasts (upper portion) and baked cupcakes (lower portion) simultaneously. I have also baked meatballs using a grate and followed by using the broil feature to given them a slightly crispy brown all in under 25 min. The unit also includes a meat thermometer unfortunately it can only be used without the partition. This is a real plus as in the past we've had to use an Ivation wireless thermometer when baking turkeys, chickens, etc. and which can be a bit tricky setting up every time we use it. We haven't tried the internal meat thermometer as of yet. We did notice that when baking (conventional or confection), the vents at the rear of the cooktop didn't get very hot. The oven is so well designed that the heat expelled from the vents is minimal, one can place their hand on them without fear of getting burned. Also, the glass on the front doors of the oven don't get hot to the touch. After selecting bake, confection bake, confection roast, air fry, or dehydrate, one can set the timer to either shut off or keep temperature. Broil and keep warm settings only have temperature settings. One can also program 'Favorite' settings.
As to the cooktop. The induction heating elements are where this unit really shines. I have used electric stoves in the past that use coils and which pales in comparison to induction heating when it comes to temperature control and even heat distribution. The dials are multi-directional so that you can turn directly to the 9/boost position (high heat) or to the lowest heat (level 1). The cooktop displays which element is in use and which temperature setting has been selected. Using the 9/boost setting we reached rapid boiling of 1 quart of water uncovered within 3 min. 20 sec. I've made a large pot of pasta from cold water to finish in under 15 min. which is usually the time just to bring the water to boil. Once rapid boiling had been achieved I found it best to reduce the temperature setting to 8 (uncovered). I immediately noticed that the time to reach boil after adding the pasta was minimal and thereby no need to continually stir the pasta to keep it from sticking together. Some folks add oil to the water to prevent this from happening but that also affects the way sauce adheres to the pasta. The heating elements distribute heat more evenly than any gas burner that I've used which can be affected by AC or something as simple as the breeze from an open window (see photo of boiling spaghetti). The cooktop can be wiped clean at any time during the cooking process as it remains cool to the touch. Even the area of the heating elements can be wiped clean directly after use which is warm but won't burn one's hand. Spills or drops are easily wiped off as they don't get "cooked on" because of the induction process of heating cookware. Also, when the cooking utensil is removed from the heating element, the unit produces a 'bing' sound and then will shut off therefore it is impossible to leave the 'burner' on which I've done too many times to count. Note: Induction cooktops require cookware that have magnetic bottoms such as stainless steel or iron (no aluminum nor copper cookware can be used). We also use silicon mats designed specifically for induction stoves as they not only protect the cooktop but provide a non-slip surface ensuring that the pot or pan won't slide while stirring. We tested them to see if the silicon mats affected the cooking time due to heat reduction and found minimal difference if any.
Both the cooktop and oven are wifi capable. Although limited by not being able to start/stop the heating elements, we found that by using Alexa and the SmartThings app and skill, we get voice notification of when the oven has completed pre-heating and when the baking time has been reached. One can also select the oven mode and temperature remotely using SmartThings but you have to tap "Start" from the Samsung's touchscreen.
As we do a lot of cooking and baking, we highly recommend the Samsung Induction Range and the removable oven partition makes this an excellent addition to our kitchen. It is more expensive than the typical stove/oven but it is worth every penny. Note: The stainless steel backsplash (see photos) was purchased as an extra (not included with the range purchase).

This Long Awaited 4K Criterion is Truly Timeless

The Criterion Collection of The Band's "The Last Waltz" is a new 4K restoration which was created from a scan of the 35 mm original camera negative under the supervision of Director Martin Scorsese. It is presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, 4K UHD with Dolby Vision. The 5.1 DTS-HD surround soundtrack was remixed from the original 24 track masters in 2001 under the supervision of musician/producer Robbie Robertson and the audio includes two stereo soundtracks as alternatives (the original 1978 mix in 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio and a uncompressed stereo mix from 2001). There are two commentary tracks featuring Scorsese, members of The Band, crew, and performers (including Dr. John, Ronnie Hawkins, and Mavis Staples), outtake and interviews. There is a fold-out essay by critic Amanda Petrusich.
Okay, now that I've got the technical stuff out of the way...
To those that have never seen "The Last Waltz" you've missed the most glorious concert/documentaries of the greatest musical groups to come out of North America in the 1960's... with a bunch of their friends joining in to celebrate their final performance. Having seen The Band play live several times in their original iteration, with Robbie Robertson, including at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, CA, on Jan 24, 1970, there has always been a soft spot in my heart for The Band and this their final performance. Along with the Winterland live performances intercut with interviews, are several 'set' pieces including "Up On Cripple Creek" accompanied by the Staple Singers and "Evangeline" with Emmylou Harris. It seems that with each passing year, the emotions seem to well-up in me a bit more watching the late Rick Danko's wistful take on "It Makes No Difference" a song that epitomizes the greatness of the music of The Band. Other moments to treasure are Richard Manuel, who sadly took his own life in 1986, telling of just how broke they all were in the early days that he would resort to shoplifting bologna so that they could eat and the virtuoso work of Garth Hudson in the unfortunately edited version of "The Genetic Method / Chest Fever." Then there's the priceless "Mannish Boy" sung by Muddy Waters, who was nearly cut from the night's lineup of guests until Levon Helm threatened to walk off. So many terrific performances from Van Morrison, Eric Clapton (who always makes it look so easy), Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Doctor John, Neil Young, Ringo Starr, Ron Wood, Ronnie Hawkins, etc. But I must admit I usually tend to the cat or make a cuppa when Neil Diamond takes to the stage.
I have recordings of "The Last Waltz" on every possible medium including LP, video and audio tape, laserdisc, CD, dvd, etc., and this Criterion Collection 4K blu-ray is the best by far.

Finally "Swing Shift Cinderella" and "King Size Canary" have been included in this third volume Tex Avery blu-ray collection. Clearly the first 2 min. of "Blitz Wolf" is from a dupe print. After that (at (1:52) the picture quality (focus and color) is the best that I've seen. Also, there's a bonus cartoon from Tex Avery's time at Warner Bros., "The Crackpot Quail" with the original 1941 raspberry sound effect that had been removed due to the Hays Code finding it objectionably gassy-like. To the dismay of Tex Avery, the sound effect was replaced with a 'whistle' after the cartoon's initial release.

4K Steelbook "Hacksaw Ridge"

The Lionsgate's 4K steelbook case of "Hacksaw Ridge" is well made with terrific artwork and includes a protective slipcover. The film quality is spectacular as is its Dolby Atmos sound. With an aspect ratio of 2.40:1, viewing on a large screen is a must. As with Lionsgate products the digital copy code is designate for either Apple TV (which includes Dolby Vision) or Vudu. Extras are "The Soul of War" a 1 hr 9 min "Making of..." documentary, "Veteran's Day Greeting" from the film's director, Mel Gibson (1 min 2 sec) and Deleted Scenes (4 min 26 sec).

Zack Snyder's Justice League Steelbook & Elephants

First off, this is a far superior version of the film than the Joss Whedon (uncredited) cut. The overall tone of the Snyder cut is much darker as is color and gamma corrections. To say that the film is slow is an understatement, but it works if one has four+ hours. Snyder takes his time with every shot, every scene and in developing the storyline which I can appreciate in this day of collision editing or speed cutting and lack of any character arc. Kudos to Snyder for his efforts in getting this film right.
Now, as to the elephants in the room. Elephant #1: I appreciate IMAX as an event theatre however I don't have one in my home. As to the claim that the height of the picture is increased with a 4x3 (1.33:1) aspect ratio when in comes to 'home video' that's simply codswallop. The loss of information on both sides of the frame is evident when comparing similar frames from the original 16x9 (1.85:1) aspect ratio and the Snyder version. Humans, as is with many animals, possess peripheral vision which means we see in 'widescreen' so that we don't get eaten by lions, tigers and bears, so with the advent of 16x9 televisions, us humans experience a more natural viewing of films. Having had seen the Snyder cut on HBO-Max I wouldn't have purchased this disc except for its availability in a steelbook being that steelbook collecting is my addiction.
Elephant #2: I understand for marketing purposes the inclusion of a 2K blu-ray copy along with the 4K discs however for hardcore fans of the film the including of "Justice is Gray" in 4K would have been all the more reason for a high priced purchase over having a 2K color version which I'll never watch. I thoroughly appreciate the black and white version of "Logan Noir" and the 'black and chrome' edition of "Mad Max: Fury Road."
The final elephant: It seems to be the trend with Best Buy, that the steelbook copy of a film is available for preorder only for several days and then it's relegated to the 'Coming Soon' bin during which time it can't be preordered and then it goes straight to 'Sold Out' making it a daily ritual, if not an hourly chore, to check for steelbook availability. The "Zack Snyder's Justice League" steelbook edition completely disappeared from the Best Buy site leaving me to wonder what I was going to receive with my preorder. Luckily I did receive a steelbook copy albeit several days later than advertised.

John Carpenter's The Thing - 4K Steelbook

Although this edition doesn't include all the goodies (including the TV broadcast cut) that Scream's 3 disc Limited Edition Steelbook (from a 4K scan), nor Scream's 2K Collector's Edition (sans TV version), finally getting "The Thing" in 4K steelbook is well worth the money. No complaints with the picture quality, in fact the film has never looked better, and the DTS 5.1 audio is clean and crisp.
Extras include the Carpenter and Russell commentary, the documentary "John Carpenter's The Thing: Terror Takes Shape, outtakes and theatrical trailer, which are on previous releases, as well as a 4K digital copy.
I've been noticing that steelbooks are offered up as preorders for only a few days and then go to "Coming Soon" status only then to become "Unavailable." I got lucky and found a store that had one copy after it's initial release date and was able to snatch it up as I forgot to preorder a copy within the short window that it was offered.

Finally Wifi streaming. No antenna required.

We recently replaced an older SiriusXM Radio with the SiriusXM Tour Radio using the SiriusXM Portable Speaker Dock. Unlike the previous model, this model works with wifi streaming using our home network as well as an antenna which is why we upgraded. The graphic screen on the older radio is rather rudimentary while the Tour model includes original LP cover artwork in the display window. The only drawback with this newer model is the amount of time that is required to boot up and load programing which is a minor inconvenience given the overall improvements offered by the Tour Radio. I recommend this upgrade especially if one relies solely on the antenna.

Although I provided the sales receipt with my initial enquiry which required filling out a simple online form, I did have to provide an image of the open steelbook with disc as well as an image of the complete cover and Support Request Number which Warner Brothers customer service provided. I pre-ordered this by mail. Received it in a timely fashion product arrived in great shape with no damage. But when I opened it no insert or booklet with the digital code. So I returned it to my local BESTBUY located in Aberdeen, NC. The staff was helpful and friendly. It was exchanged for a replacement. So I opened the new replacement on the spot in front of the staff...NO DIGITAL CODE. Yes, we have a problem here. The store had one more in stock. The manager open the third Blu-ray...ONCE AGAIN NO DIGITAL CODE! Disappointed to say the least. I am willing to bet there are more Nightmare On Elm Street (SteelBook) out there with no digital codes inside.
I don't blame BESTBUY for the lack of a digital code that falls on the distributor of this particular product. However, BestBuy does need to address this some how. Just not getting what you paid for here. Maybe all who purchase this Blu-ray receive the code via email or something.
I included a picture in my review so there would be no misunderstanding as to which Blu-ray I am talking about.

How To Get The Digital Code

Best Buy has nothing to do with the product itself. Using the Warner Brothers link ( https://digitalsupport.warnerbros.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045851174-What-if-the-Digital-Code-insert-is-missing-or-blank- ) provided by amoebaswatter in an early posting (thanks mate), I was able to get the digital code which works with Apple TV, Movies Anywhere, Vudo, et al. Although I provided an image of the sales receipt with my initial enquiry which required filling out a simple online form, I did have to provide an image of the open steelbook with disc as well as an image of the complete cover and a Support Request Number which Warner Brothers customer service provided. The process was completed quite quickly.

Using the Warner Brothers link ( https://digitalsupport.warnerbros.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045851174-What-if-the-Digital-Code-insert-is-missing-or-blank- ) provided by amoebaswatter in an earlier posting (thanks mate) you can request a code. It worked for me and the process was completed within 24 hours.

I want to switch to induction but I use my large diameter pan the most and the entire bottom must heat. Does the largest circle on the induction model actually heat all across the bottom of a large pan (10" diameter bottom)?

My oven works, but the cook top does not heat up. Am I doing something incorrectly?
Pots and pans must have a magnetic property for the cooktop to function. Simple hold a magnet up to the bottom of the pot/pan to check the utensil's usability. Cast iron or stainless steel will work. Mind you, most pots have an aluminum layer for even heat distribution but will possibly work.

Does this stove come with a trim kit or do I purchase that separately?
Stainless steel trim pieces are not included with the range. We ordered the trim kit from Best Buy on April 18, 2023 and which was on backorder even directly through Samsung. We had an estimate of May 14 and are still waiting.
