The True History of Abraham Lincoln

Well, anyway, it would be kind of neat, in a terrifying sort of way, if it were the actual history. Truthfully, this movie is one of those ones that it is almost so bad that it ends up being good. Still I had a lot of fun watching this one.
There were many over the top moments, but it is this over exaggeration that makes this movie what it is. An enjoyable, utterly ridiculous ride of temporary awesome!
Of course, there are some parts that drag the film down a little and after the first viewing some of the wonder over the crazy wears off. Overall, all a good movie to watch if you like wild, uncontrolled and slightly insane stories.
(Also, the steelbook is beyond lovely.)

Take a Bite Out of This

Seeing 'Meg' was an achievement for me as I haven't seen a shark movie fro start to finish since Jaws traumatized me as a child. (Strangely, I still enjoy watching 'Shark Week' on Animal Planet.) I swear my heart was pounding all morning with nerves at just the thought that I was going to see it.
It turned out to be a very fun movie, thankfully. It probably helped that it felt more like a action/comedy, though I still did find myself jumping in my seat and barely containing expletives at points. While, I like to think I have gotten more brave in my old age, this movie just wasn't very scary. At all. (Which was good for me.)
Everything that made me jump was really just the suddeness of the megalodon appearing. You know it's coming, but you just don't know exactly when. There is also very little blood, which again is good for me.
There were a few laughs in here too. I felt like at some moments 'Meg' was a borderline parody movie of other shark films. Still, not much of the dialogue is quote worthy.
Overall, this movie was a good time for what it was. Not something I am going to revisit a lot, yet definitley something I may watch at least once every summer.

A More Timeless Tale than Any Disney Film

Do you enjoy stories about true love, high adventure, and revenge? Then the Princess Bride may just be for you. It is a timeless tale that will never grow stale.
I have seen this movie 30+ times at the point I am writing this and, despite it's lack of grandiose costumes or props, I don't foresee this movie ever leaving the top spot of my favorite films. It just has so much charm.

Get a Clue

When I think of the Scooby-Doo gang, Daphne and Velma aren't usually the first two that come to mind. In fact, even the characters of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer are thought of before them, so I can't say I was expecting much from this movie. In a sense, I was wrong.
In no way is this a fantastic movie, though it is leagues better than the early 2000s live-action of Scooby-Doo. There are a good number of scenes that play homage to the cartoons, especially closer to the end. However, the characters feel a little different. Daphne is less of a fashionista and Velma is more deadpan, yet I feel these slight changes really worked for this movie.
I was kind of hoping for cameos of the other characters from the main Scooby cast, but that dream never came true as far as I noticed. Hardcore fans of the cartoon mat not like this movie as, well it is a decent spin-off, it can come off as almost a parody.
Overall, way more enjoyable than other Scooby-Doo live-actions but not anything too exciting.

Friendly Monsters in the Classroom
on November 12, 2018

This movie reminded me of season 3 of Digimon. Nothing overly exciting or worth talking about. It was just created and now kind of floating in the void of easily forgotten media.
Essentially, a bunch of young kids come into possession of little monster creatures that they mainly use to battle one another, but unbeknownst to them there may be something larger linger in the shadows. The first thing I really want to touch on is that that while the designs of the monsters themselves are rather adorable, the CGI is atrocious. It kind of took me out of the movie with just how bad it was.
The story also felt quiet off. There was a major event that happened in the main characters life, but despite the attempts to make it relevant it sort of fell flat. Other character's included very obvious stereotypes including the bullies and love interest and all problems solved by the power of friendship. Well, mostly.
Honestly, it really is Digimon (Season 3!) with maybe a mix of Yu-Gi-Oh. Not something I would recommend, even if I didn't exactly hate it.

The Story of a Great Man and His Creation

As a child I hardly watched 'Mr. Roger's Neighborhood' and after viewing this documentary that is something I have come to regret. I never thought a documentary, especially one delving into a show I barely seen and the man behind it, would touch my heart as much as this one did. I saw this on more of a whim and I feel almost ashamed of that. This, to me, is certainly a must watch.

Marvel's potty-mouthed mercenary anti-hero is back in this laugh- and action-packed sequel. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) assembles a team of mutants called X-Force in order to stop cybernetic, time-traveling soldier Cable (Josh Brolin) from killing Russell Collins (Julian Dennison), a young mutant who will murder Cable's family in the future. What could possibly go wrong when Deadpool and Cable are forced to put their differences aside and work together? With Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin. 119 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks English DTS HD 7.1 Master Audio, DVS 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles English (SDH), Spanish, French; gag reel; photo gallery; deleted scenes; extended scenes; featurettes; audio commentary. Two-disc set.

Super Duper Film x 2

'Deadpool 2' was so hilarious I was curled up laughing to the point I was in pain through nearly the entire film.
Ryan Reynolds delivers again with a perfect performance of the 'Merc with a Mouth' Deadpool. He really pulled me in to the point I was so immersed that when the credits started rolling I could scarcely believe the movie was already over! The other characters (Cable, Domino, Weasel, Ect.) were all fantastic too.
I found this sequel to be a couple notches more enjoyable than the first one, personally. The story just seemed to flow a little bit better and the larger cast worked very well together opposed to Deadpool going solo for most of the film.
I roaring good time this movie was and perhaps my absolute favorite from the Marvel franchise, Sony or otherwise. Looking forward to watching it again and again.

Sometimes I Wish I Could Go Back in Time
on November 11, 2018

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from making horrible desicions - such as watching this movie. Okay, that was a little harsh. This is by no means the worst movie I have ever seen, but there is something to be said about it almost immediatley showing up on Netflix after the home media release.
I have never read the books, so I have absolutely no idea how the film compares to them, all I know is that the movie 'Wrinkle in Time' left much to be desired. Mainly in its' acting and disjointed storytelling. The visuals, well, they were gorgeous.
Honestly, the character Charles Wallace is one of the main reasons I found this film to be so lackluster. Not too mention certain things that happen way to easily for the characters. If this ever got a sequel I don't think I would bother to see it, nor did it give me any sort of desire to read the books.

Superhero Movies Have Never Been so Fun
on November 11, 2018

Holy Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, Batman! This was a surprisingly wonderful film, even though, as a fan of the show, I wasn't expecting too much from it.
Yes, if you have seen the show, this stays true to the humor of the series and if you are a fan of that than you will most likely like this movie. I will say it was a lot more heartfelt than I was expecting, which is what elevated it to be, in my opinion, better than the show itself.
If you are not a fan of the show or don't like toilet humor or just complete wackiness than I would recommend staying clear of this one.

One For All and All For Justice

Since this the Justice League has come out I have heard almost nothing outside of what a horrible movie it is. Recently I have gotten the chance to see it myself and I enjoyed it immensely. Still, I can see where others are coming from.
The CGI isn't the greatest, the characters are not what I am used to from the few comics I have read and other movies and shows I have seen in the DC realm and the overall story feels a bit on the generic side. However, even after all the negatives it was a good time. At least better than some of the Marvel movies from Sony.
The dialogue was definitely cheesy, which I kind of loved myself. I was especially fond of Barry Allen's one-liners even if the characterization of him felt like some sort of weird mix of Barry and Wally.
Batman also felt off, more of how I would expect him to act at the beginning of his career rather than the years of crime fightng he has behind him at the point of this film. I was still rather fond of his portrayal though. Also, Alfred is still a sass master so there is that.
In the end, I just adored how fun this movie was. It wasn't deep or revolutionary in the terms of superhero films, but it let me to have roughly 2 hours of mindless entertainment. I can see myself rewatching this movie sometime in the near future.
