Feel Good Film

Juno is a feel good Film That everyone should see. With a story like that there’s basically no way to hate it. Ellen Page is amazing in this. The direction from Jason Reitman was also very good. But it’s all of Diablo Cody’s screenplay that does it. Definitely see this one!

Very Good Horror/Drama

The Witch is not what many expect it to be. Some were looking for just all horror but it’s also a drama about what the family is going through. Great performances by everyone, chilling score by Mark Korven, beautiful cinematography by Jarin Blascke (which looks great in 4K!), and just a direction and screenplay from Robert Eggers. Highly recommend this!

A Perfect Documentary

As most people know, Won’t You Be My Neighbor is a documentary about Fred Rogers and his popular tv show Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. This has been a very popular movie when it came out and it has been releasing wider. Point’s theater got it so we had to go see it. This is by far my favorite documentary I have ever seen. The story was amazing and there were no boring moments. The people they interviewed were very good. I really liked the interviews because some questions were for the audience too. There was one interview they kept showing with Fred at a piano and incorporating different chord to life and I loved it! They also made some animations with it and they were cute and I really liked those. As all documentaries do, they talked about stuff most people didn’t know. They also showed the most important episodes and how kids need to know about current topics, like assassination. I liked how it was aimed for both children and adults. Most documentaries are aimed for adults because they know more, but it includes children too. It was for everyone, just like his show. The score in it was also very good and didn’t sound typical for a documentary. Overall this was an amazing movie that everyone needs to see.

It was 1969, and the lull at a once trendy hotel on the California/Nevada border ended with a rush of clientele including an aging priest (Jeff Bridges), a vacuum salesman (Jon Hamm), a drifter (Dakota Johnson), and a soul singer (Cynthia Erivo). However, agendas and identities aren't all what they seem... and between a hunt for hidden bank loot and cultists arriving at the door, no one should expect a good night's rest. Stylish contemporary noir co-stars Chris Hemsworth, Lewis Pullman, Cailee Spaeny.

Interesting Movie

Bad Times at the El Royale is directed by Drew Goddard, the man who wrote and directed the cult classic The Cabin in the Woods, and stars a whole bunch of famous people. Seven stranger, each with a secret, all happen to meet up at the El Royale, a hotel that is half in Nevada and half in California. Over the course of one night, secrets find their way out and everything turns to chaos. I wasn’t pumped for this when I saw the first trailer. It seemed like it was going to be kind of like the recent Murder on the Orient Express, which was ok but not great. I forgot about the trailer and watched it again a while back and I got a little bit excited the closer the release got. I liked this movie. I thought that it had a clever story and caught my attention. The performances were really good in this. The biggest standout for me was Lewis Pullman as Miles Miller and Jeff Bridges as Father Daniel Flynn. The others I really liked were Cynthia Erivo (Darlene Sweet), Dakota Johnson (Emily Springsteen), and Chris Hemsworth (Billy Lee). The story very interesting. From the first moments of the movie it grabbed the audiences attention, and also had some interesting editing that worked. As the story progresses everything starts to tie together and more secrets come out. The suspense in this movie was great. You didn’t know what was going to happen. The actors were fantastic as I mentioned before and added a bit more flare to the story. I really loved the relationship between Darlene and Father Flynn. Those were the most interesting parts. The directing and was good. You could see some of Goddard’s techniques from The Cabin in the Woods and shared some similarities. The cinematography was pretty good. The set decoration was really good, another possible Oscar nominee. Side note: there has been some really good set decoration of recent this year. I don’t know why but I love it. I liked the costumes. The fit the time period well (1969) and they had the personality of the character too. The score was good. I really liked the music in it and Cynthia did sing in it and I will say she has an amazing voice. There was one scene in particular that had some really interesting stuff happening and all we could hear was her singing. I loved it! As for flaws, it was a bit of a long movie. It was 2 hrs 20 min and some stuff could’ve been cut down a little. There’s stuff involving a sister which made sense for the plot but there was a little something that just felt a little bit off. It may just be because I didn’t like her as much. Towards the end a secret from Miles Miller comes out and it’s supposed to be like a big thing but then when you learn about it, it wasn’t that big of a bombshell. I feel like they could’ve changed that. Another thing happened involving a tape which kind of felt a little off just because I would forget about it and then it would got back to it. Also this really isn’t a flaw but some people were advertised a lot but barely in it so I felt a tiny but disappointed but it worked out. This is a clever movie that made barely any money on its first weekend (only 7 million with a 32 million budget). It seemed like a big movie but I guess people wanted to see Venom (not really good) and A Star is Born (very good) more. I would recommend it. Either see it in the theater or wait for it to come out on blu ray.

A Story Everyone Should See

Boy Erased is based on the true story about Jared Eamons (Lucas Hedges), son of a pastor (Russel Crowe) and a religious mother (Nicole Kidman), who comes out as gay. His parents then send him to a program to “correct his problem”. I’ve been waiting for this movie for quite some time because this seems to be the year where films can address these topics. Also it was just nominated for two Golden Globes and probably one more come Oscar season if Nicole gets the nomination for Best Supporting Actress rather than her lead in Destroyer. I loved this movie! It was so good! Beautiful direction and screenplay (he also wrote it with Garrard Conley, the real man who went through this. He changed the names in the film) by Joel Edgerton. It’s a story that really needs to be told. People need to know these “camps” existed and people went through this. It was heartbreaking, emotional, and beautiful. Lucas Hedges just made his best performance of his career, earning a Golden Globe nomination. It’s hard to say if he’ll get an Oscar nomination. Nicole Kidman did a very good job and deserves a nomination for her performance. Russel Crowe and Joel Edgerton did great with their roles too. The 1:55 minutes flew by so fast and I didn’t want it to end. There’s so much to be said about the film but I don’t want to spoil it. There’s one really powerful scene at the program that I just thought was beautiful how it was executed. I just wanted to throw my food at the screen because I got so flustered (it would’ve been fine because it was only us three there). Also this movie needs more of an audience because it’s so good. The cinematography was good. The score was amazing (much better than A Quiet Place which I don’t know how it was nominated for Best Original Score for the Golden Globes). The editing was good. It was just so good. I only had one problem with the movie. Towards the end something major and heartbreaking happened and I thought they would talk about it more. Instead they did a big time skip which I was really mad about. Other than that I think everyone should see this movie. You will most definitely not be disappointed!

Suspiria is such a good movie. It has a good mix of drama and horror to keep the movie interesting and shocking the whole way through. I wasn’t disappointed and I’m sure many won’t be either.

Incredibles 2 Review:
We’ve waited 14 years since the last Incredibles movie and now we finally have it. The movie was pretty good, not as good as the first but still pretty good. The voice acting was great as usual. I thought Michael Giachino’s score was even better in this one. The animation looked much better, which shouldn’t be a surprise since technology has improved a lot since the first one. The villain in this one is the Screen Slaver. I thought they were a cool idea and not a descent villain, but Syndrome was much better in my opinion. The motive were clear for the villain but they just didn’t seem to be that great. The reveal for the villain was super predictable. Literally everyone in the theater called it from the start. The movie overall was mostly predictable which I was expecting just a little bit more surprise and something new. Some new characters were introduced which I thought weren’t needed. They also didn’t have much depth. The movie was funny. Everybody was laughing and having a fun time. I think everybody who watches this movie will have a great time. It was enjoyable and reminded me of my childhood. There were some problems and it wasn’t as good as the first one. However it was still pretty good.
