I found the life of Malcolm X interesting. I was surprised at his many transitions - his being open to changing his view that ironically factored into getting assassinated by those who did not appreciate so much this quality in Malcolm. I love history as it is often more incredible than fiction. However, I could not give this movie a higher rating due to it feeling too stretched back in time without really adding to my understanding of Malcolm X. It made it laborious to get to the Malcolm X who impacted America without giving me a better understanding, such as how zoot suits made this man.

Can love survive outside a vacuum

Nature loves diversity, but cultures don't seem to. Guilt trips, and worse, assault non-linear people - those who do not follow in someone else's footsteps. Pressures may help us follow a healthier path, but they can confuse us as to what path we really want to take for ourselves. America's ethnic, economic and age diverse culture offers individuals many opportunities, but there are also many challenges to those wanting to take advantage of the opportunities. "The Big Sick" did a good job giving a glimpse of one version of this conundrum and how difficult a non-linear path can be once one reveals their conundrum to others. For individuals, cultures or nations, their biggest strength can, under different circumstances, be their biggest weakness. Diversity in ourselves or in a nation, can be a delicate flower, wilted by closed minds, like bigotry, but can lead to great strength if allowed to blossom. The movie felt like a real experience of a person evolving and discovering the strength to be himself.

Murder, Maggie, or be killed

A cold blooded killer gets a second chance, to be...a colder blooded killer. Her training includes learning to murder with a touch of cultural class, which, somehow, gives Maggie a conscience - an interesting concept to be practiced in all our prisons. Should this now give her yet a third chance to live with no punishment? That question bothered my ethics and ultimately, bothered my enjoyment of the story, despite, or maybe because of good acting by Fonda.

Draining the swamp

I love history, but did not learn much about the Free State of Jones, other than it was mainly a group hiding out in a swam. It came across more as the Free State of Newton Knight, who just wanted to grow, pick and eat his own corn, with an interesting, yet for me, highly distracting, semi-modern side plot about interracial marriage.

A man has a melt down at the loss of his wife and essentially melts down his home and life, yet no one in the story seems to understand or sympathize. So, on the one hand, there is the disjointing of his house, and on the other, the disjointing of my sympathies for this movie as I tried to maintain sympathies for the "widowered"..

But, otherwise, a bit difficult to have sympathy for or interest in these greed mongers. In other words, a high carb meal leaving me quickly hungry for another, meatier movie to sink my teeth into.

My first copy glitched, v. disappointing in a 4K! Second glitched, but not so much and I gave up. Never much liked the TV version, but decided to try this version, liking Hulk's snippets as a "team" member. Took awhile to get a price I liked. Then found the movie itself "average", whatever that means. Neither the acting or story hooked me.
