~ STAR TREK I-IV gets the 4K treatment, finally ~
on September 12, 2021
Posted by: 93Vet
Verified Purchase:Yes
The original STAR TREK finally comes to 4K format. Although not the complete 6 movies for the original crew, this set has the first 4 in the series. I can see why they did it this way. Marketing and cost.
These movies were released from 1979 to 1986, marking STAR TREK IV to be 35 years old now. All four looking pretty good on the 4K format with improved sound in English 7.1 Dolby TrueHD.
I have an additional sound bar that the audio goes through instead of using just the TV speakers. You can hear so much more.
For picture quality, there is a difference I have noticed. If you play these back on an UHD TV with HDR, you will most likely see a difference although not groundbreaking. The most difference I saw was the The Motion Picture, particularly in the beginning scenes in space where craft are going to and around the Enterprise. I believe there was some touchup work done there for the 4K. I have the previous Blu-ray on that and it was noticeable for me.
THe movies looked really good for their age and am proud now to own this set. The packaging, well, it is okay. At least we have the discs separated in their own cases, 4K and Blu-ray versions.
Artwork is good, no artwork on the discs themselves.
Black for the 4K and standard Blue for the Blu-rays.
The 4K discs say on them that there are special features. There are NO SPECIAL FEATURES on the 4K discs. This is a misprint.
I do not count Audio Commentary as special features.
That is in the SETTINGS selection where you can pick whatever you see there for Audio.
ALL SPECIAL FEATURES for each movie are on the Blu-ray discs.
The cardboard outer shell is a bit flimsy much like that of the Indiana Jones set released earlier by Paramount.
The artwork is good, but that outer box will be tested over time for wear and tear.
All in all, a good to excellent set for the first 4 movies in the series. Hopefully, we get the other 2 sets to follow,
V, Vi, VII then VIII, IX, X. I am only assuming they will do it this way to keep the cost down for consumers, or they could do the last 6 at once.
Recommended if you really want the 4K upgrade, which is worth it to me.

~ THE THING (1982) finally on 4K disc ~
on September 12, 2021

Verified Purchase:Yes
Well, here we are. THE THING (1982) finally gets the full 4K package treatment. Now, this movie does look pretty incredible on the 4K TV with HDR. I have owned the previous Shout Factory edition and that had the 2017 4K scan on a Blu-ray disc.
This edition does look slightly better than that one on my 4K equipment.
I would highly recommend playing this back on a TV with HDR capability to get the maximum presentation.
Sound is incredible through the soundbar in front of the 4K TV.
Included in this set is the standard Universal Blu-ray that has been out for sometime. No artwork on it other than blue lettering, which is typical for Universal Blu-rays for the most part.
The actual 4K disc is the standard black with white lettering.
Fabulous to finally have it, if you don't have the other set from Shout, I would recommend getting this.
The Shout version has so many more features in that set.

A beautiful steelbook with artwork throughout. The movie is good, a continuation of the original one, where the family must now move on and find others to help in eliminating the enemy from existence.
The way has been found, now, executing that way on a mass scale is the key to survival.
It's a good sequel and the packaging is well done.

What an incredible set for this awesome series! I knew it was coming. Although, I am surprised that each one of the movies has not received it's own Steelbook 4K version. The very last one did, though as far as I know.
All packaging is outstanding and movies are housed in their own black 4K cases, with an additional Blu-ray version of each movie.
Digital copies are also of each movie.
The outer case is really good and sturdy, with artwork.
Highly recommended!!

~BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS gets the nice Steelbook~

Well, anyone that grew up in the '80s knew that after the huge successes of Star Wars and 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, got more Sci-Fi than they could handle. This meant TV shows as well as movies.
Roger Corman saw a way to do a SW like movie and make some money to boot. In my opinion, he was successful in doing that.
Bring in some known names from the decade and see how it all goes. John Saxon was brought in to play the mean bad guy,
Richard Thomas from The WALTON's TV show to be the main good guy trying to get mercenaries, George Peppard from TV's The A TEAM, and Sybil Danning, and icon of the era, model, etc.
Robert Vaughan rounds out the well knowns as a lone mercenary that joins the fight out of boredom.
The movie looks good and sounds good now. Fans of the movie should get this edition. The Blu-ray has artwork on it as well as the steelbook itself.
Nice edition!!
There are some special features, including a new interview with Actor Richard Thomas on the role of Shad in the movie and how he got it, etc.
The menu is really nice, moving background with music and easy selections.

Friday the 13th part II gets the 40th Steelbook

Friday the 13th part II, gets the Steelbook Blu-ray for the 40th Anniversary and it doesn't disappoint. If you are a fan of this killer franchise, get this one. The artwork is pretty good for the most part.
This movie is the introduction of Jason Voorhees to the series.
This is the Deluxe Blu-ray version, the same as the one found in the previously released Paramount 8 movie set.
If you want a more detailed comprehensive set of the franchise, I may suggest you get the scream factory set of all the movies, and I mean all of them in the series.
I cannot wait for the 40th Anniversary edition of Friday the 13th, part III Steelbook, also. I have always loved the artwork on that and the movie.

Michael Keaton plays the creepy BEETLEJUICE spirit here to get under the skin of would be houseguests. It's a Halloween favorite every year for me, along with Hocus Pocus. Michael would go on to do the awesome BATMAN in 1989.
This Steelbook is fabulous throughout. The artwork is much better than that of the newer version that came out recently for the 4K release.
The blu-ray here is decent. I found a good deal on a 4K disc itself and added it to this Steelbook.
Recommended, especially if you are a Michael Keaton fan.
Watch this during October to get you in the mood for Halloween.

If you love Science Fiction movies about aliens coming to Earth and wreaking havoc on society, this one may be for you. I liked the idea, as it has not been done before to my knowledge in movies.
An alien force has come to Earth and made all humankind scared to even make a noise. You see, if you make loud noises of any kind, the creatures will find you as they hunt by sound.
A family must survive in their farm house surrounded by land and trees, with several creatures lurking about for their next target.
I thought the cast did a great job and I liked the movie.
Will definately see the sequel when it arrives on the 4K format.
Recommended, but not a movie for small children in my opinion.

It may seem a smaller movie, but it's really big
By jsoto279 from Illinois, USA
Obviously, everybody was waiting for Avengers: Infinity War, but, we were also curious to know what would happen after that. It was up to Ant-man and the Wasp to bring us back from those devastating events. It was also obvious that anything in comparison would seem diminished. But, if you give it a chance, you will see that this movie is as a larger than life adventure to awe and entertain everybody. The steelbook presentation is as big a collector's item as the movie. So it is highly recommended to get them both

I am a big Marvel fan as well since 2008's IRON MAN. In this particular movie, it was never "up to" ANT MAN and THE WASP to bring us back from the events of THANOS using the Gauntlet with the INFINITY STONES. That event actually took place at the very end of the movie when ANT MAN himself was in the Quantum Realm. Dr. Pym, his wife, and THE WASP were all on the rooftop when, bam!, SNAP of the Gauntlet took place in RAWANDA where THOR and many of the AVENGERS were, including BLACK PANTHER. It's going to be up to CAPTAIN MARVEL and the rest of the surviving AVENGERS to take on THANOS and devise a plan to go back in time.

Test your skills against the classics with this Arcade1Up Atari arcade cabinet. Its 12 titles let you explore hours of retro-style gaming, and the 17-inch full-color display, sounds and authentic controls amplify the experience. The original artwork and upright design of this Arcade1Up Atari arcade cabinet create a stunning focal point in game room displays.

Could be awesome with a couple improvements. But..
By Robert from MN
The trackball is very nice and the buttons are okay, but the spinner is pure garbage. It's a hollow plastic thing that you can literally FEEL mechanically bumping a switch to register rotation. If you're familiar with an actual arcade spinner, it's a hefty metal knob connected to a disc with holes, with optical sensors peeking through them. That ain't what you're getting here. Every "bump" or two moves you to the next segment in Tempest; the software is able to animate your thing "crawling", but the spinner device resolution is so poor that it just doesn't happen.
The video resolution is very poor (like, 800x600 or worse, by my visual estimation), which makes for a lot of visible jaggies on the "vector" games. The monitor is roughly 13.25x10.5 inches, so the vertical games have unused real estate on the sides. Tempest, strangely, seems letterboxed on all four sides.
Missile Command and Liberator play pretty well. Quantum is nearly unplayable because the trackball sensitivity is set too low, whereas Centipede and Millipede seem like the trackball sensitivity is set just a bit too HIGH.
Lunar Lander doesn't use either of the available analog controls for thrust, so that leaves you tapping a button to pulse-thrust, which isn't how the arcade machine worked.
Button placement is okay for everything except Gravitar and the two Asteroids games, just because the tractor beam / hyperspace button is "C", NEXT TO the rotation buttons, rather than below them where your thumb could reach.
Sound is pretty good; it's just a single speaker and the volume control is a 3-position switch though, so don't get your hopes up too much.
I haven't assembled the cabinet yet, but there's no way this could be a solid $400 value unless the spinner control was as solid and authentic as the trackball is, and the graphics were at least as good at simulating a vector display as a 15-year-old laptop running MAME can.

Originally made for cable television, this imaginative biopic chronicles the life of Marilyn Monroe (Mira Sorvino), including the years before she changed her name from Norma Jean Baker (Ashley Judd) and was transformed into the screen persona that made her a legendary sex symbol. The movie employs unconventional, dream-like storytelling techniques in which Marilyn and her former self, Norma Jean, frequently appear in scenes together, with Norma Jean often taunting Marilyn for not living up to her earlier aspirations. Many facets of Monroe's life are examined, including her childhood and adolescence when Norma Jean had to live with foster families because of her mother's psychological problems. In addition to referencing Monroe's work on such films as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), The Seven Year Itch (1955), and Some Like It Hot (1959), the movie explores her marriages to baseball great Joe DiMaggio (Peter Dobson) and famous playwright Arthur Miller (David Dukes), and her romances, including her purported relationship with U.S. President John F. Kennedy (Steven Culp). The film also offers a hard-hitting look at Monroe's struggle with drug- and alcohol-dependency.

I would NOT recommend this TO ANY MARILYN FAN at all. It is complete and utter garbage. If you REALLY want to see what Marilyn was like, look at the handful of ACTUAL DOCUMENTARIES that are out there with her voice attached in it in some fashion. THE LEGEND OF MARILYN MONROE, THE FINAL DAYS, THE MORTAL GODDESS.

This set features all three movies from the groundbreaking sci-fi franchise. In The Matrix, computer hacker Neo has his world turned upside down when he's forced to see the truth about his world; in The Matrix Reloaded, Neo, Trinity and Morpheus continue the fight to free mankind; and in The Matrix Revolutions, the ongoing war comes to a dramatic end.

Great Packaging for a Trilogy!
By KJT4B
Pros: I love it when they put a trilogy or anthology in steelbook packaging, especially a single case like this! As a collector this is huge, as space is a premium on my shelf. Digital copies included is also extremely beneficial for those moments I want to watch on the go or am just too lazy to go get the case and road the player. All in all a great purchase that would recommend.
Cons: This is a constant complaint of mine - typically folks who purchase textbooks are collectors and go out of their way to acquire textbook editions of movies; why can't they 1) make the movie info card cover easier to trim for saving inside the cover? Or 2) make it smaller in the first place so there's no trimming required? They should consciously anticipate their audience for steelbooks: collectors. Second, I was lucky to discover the trilogy coming out in steelbooks so that I waited to purchase this one; otherwise, if I remember right only 2 of the 3 were available as steelbooks at Best Buy... my solution would be for Best Buy to initiate a "Steelbooks Collectors Club" or something, where you could get on a special list and get head's up notifications of future steelbooks, with the option to remind us when something can be pre-ordered.

"No Theatrical Releases in Set"
April 1, 2020
There was NEVER a plan to include those in this set. They are NOT the ones George wanted in the first place after the fact he had the technology to do what he wanted.
If you are so bent on getting the mistake prone, optical effect laden gaffes in the IV, V, VI ones, go for it. Good luck finding a machine that will play them on.
VHS sets out from mid to late 1990s.
Laserdisc sets out from mid to late 1990s.
So rating the entire box a 1 STAR because you're upset it doesn't have those is a joke. You're obviously paying DISNEY more money in the long run for individuals. So, you are giving DISNEY MORE. lol

Not Perfect, but Still Great
By Shawn
This set doesn't include the original theatrical versions of the original trilogy, which is what fans have been truly waiting on, but this set is still the best available so far. 4K audio and video is outstanding for most of the films, with The Phantom Menace having the weakest looking video. The set looks nice and the booklet is also attractive, however sliding the discs in and out of the booklet requires some patience and care. Overall, this is a nice set that is a no brainer for collectors, but it's not quite the ultimate set that many have been looking for.

Overall review of the "Skywalker Saga" 9 movie Set
By 93Vet
Having been a long time fan of the series, starting on the infamous date for all SW fans, 25 May 1977, I was eager to get this set and have all the movies in UHD 4K.
This set does NOT include the SW stories "Solo" and "Rogue One".
I will be getting "Rogue One" separately for the 4K as I have "Solo".
The box itself is decent, it has a leather like feel to it and opens up on the sides to reveal a middle "silver book" that contains all the discs and original artwork from each of the 9 movies.
The movie pages have the 4K and Blu-ray disc housed in their own respective sleeves on the upper right corner and are labeled as such when you remove them. Removing them is a sticking point, but as with anything disc, you have to handle with care. They are a bit tight as this is a new set and I think over time it will loosen a bit for each disc. The outer black case does not line up absolutely on the line, and that is a bit of a disappointment when it comes to the Death Star graphic on the front, but that is a minor thing to me. It's not handmade by Rolls Royce.
The 9 bonus discs are pretty good, but NOT all the material for each movie is in THIS set. There is new material, interviews, etc. for this set mixed with original material brought over from the 2011 9 disc set.
You can find more on the 3 bonus discs that came with that Blu-ray set. Keep those 3 discs if you have it.
Also, the 2004 Star Wars Trilogy "Bonus Material" DVD is exceptional with the vintage IV-VI trilogy content. Has ALL the trailers for those three movies and the EPIC documentary "Empire Of Dreams". That to me, is THE documentary for the original trilogy. This is NOT on this 2020 Box Set.
Some of the vintage trailers are on the bonus discs for IV-VI.
Episode IX does NOT have any deleted/extended scenes on the bonus disc. Why? I don't know. I do believe there is much footage that could have been added here. We get a "Skywalker Saga" documentary, rather it's a behind the scenes 2 hour video mostly about VII-IX with a little bit of footage from IV-VI added in here and there. No mention of Episodes I-III at all.
The plus here for me is the total package, although the disc sleeves may have been better, it doesn't appear they will scratch easily as the material behind it is slick. They are tight on the sides, but I believe over time it will loosen a bit. Handle with care as always. We get all the movies on UHD 4K with newer prints. The original trilogy (IV-VI) has never looked better.
No, it does NOT contain the 1977, 1980, 1983 theatrical releases with all mistakes and film defects inherent in those, even now in later format releases (VHS box sets/1995 THX Laserdisc sets).
You will never see those on a UHD 4K set.
George made it clear many years ago, that the movies that were originally seen on the screen in those years were not the complete vision he had at the time. He couldn't do alot of things he wanted because of the limits of technology at the time. So, he basically had to wait unitl the movie technology caught up.
Even if this set is not the most perfect one, I do like it, but it could have been better overall for content and the placement of discs in the sleeves. Artwork is well done and the artwork on the discs are well done, too. A solid 4 Stars.

You are not going to get the 1977 "version" on 4K or Blu-ray. In fact, this was released in 2004 on DVD, but the quality was atrocious for that format's ability.
The only way you are going to get the '77 version is either through one of the following formats:
The 2004 DVD (official release)
The 1995 THX VHS Trilogy Sets (official release)
The 1995 THX Laserdiscs (official release)
The "Despecialized" version on Manufactured on demand Blu-ray disc (unofficial release)
I do not work for Disney, but I have been a long time fan of the series from the very beginning. I went to the first showing in my City on May 25, 1977. I was 10.

New to 4K. This collection features the wonder of the entire Star Wars saga, capturing the moments from a young Anakin Skywalker's descent into the dark side to the rise of the Resistance and their struggle to restore peace in the galaxy. The story that electrified a generation comes to a striking conclusion.

Excellent Compilation

I didn’t award FIVE stars because Lucas didn’t provide the original, theatrical releases. We get the kiddified Cantina shootout where Greedo fires first and Han fires best. No need for this: once Greedo pointed his blaster at Han, that’s an overt act of aggression and Han acts in self defense when he fires, even when he fires first as in the theatrical release.
For this price point, a lavish, illustrated hard bound book really would have set this piece off. But maybe they’re waiting to fleece us for an 8k version?
On a related note, I would love to see the Star Wars saga updated and re-released in theaters and Blu-Ray. For example, the death of the Death Star should no be so swift. A gigantic moon sized station shouldn’t vaporize but rather split up in big and small pieces. A Death Star meteor shower into Yavin’s moon and stormtrooper bodies and body parts would more convincingly demonstrated the destruction. The Super Star Destroyer, or should we say Stupor Star Destroyer, does nothing in the series. Change that!
But this is an excellent purchase and will entertain for a long time. Buy and slot in Rogue One 4k too.

Greedo fires first?
April 16, 2020
The Cantina scene on the 4K disc did not have Greedo firing first. There was an added scene with Greedo saying a word and then they literally shoot at each other at the same time, with Greedo missing and hitting the wall. This is a new scene added from Greedo. It did not exist in prior releases.

Retrogaming fans and pop-culture enthusiasts have been clamoring for it, and here it is courtesy of Arcade1Up: the Atari Legacy CENTIPEDE Edition home arcade machine, for the first time in a form factor shaped just like the original classic arcade cabinet!

There are misleading images of this unit's screen size when showing Centipede. The game is a vertical game as it should be. However, there are photos of it being squashed or horizontal. Which is it?

Evolving from its 1958 beginnings as an amusement game manufacturer, Midway produced some of the hottest arcade games of the 80s and 90s, that have since been adapted into film, television, and much more.Their monsters-wreaking-havoc title Rampage~was a giant early hit, and then leaps in live action digitizing technology led to Mortal Kombat~, recognized as one of the most important titles in video game history. With it~s over the top darkly humorous gameplay and finishing moves, Mortal Kombat~became an instant franchise with iconic characters and enduring catch phrases.

So, what's the actual date of release now? Arcade 1up had it in March and Best Buy says Dec. 31, 2021. lol There are many of us eagerly awaiting to get this unit when Arcade 1up SAYS and sends an email stating it is READY for Preorder.

Does this come with a deck protector as well? I know the most recent ones have had it, but this does not specify.

will this charge my apple tv remote?

Not sure, but I asked the Best Buy tech on duty and he sold me one similar to this one for my Galaxy 21 phone.
It works well. My advice to you would be to go in person if you can and tell them your question. They should point you to the correct item that will work for you.

Most steelbook editions contain the DVD as well. Do any of these contain the DVD's? And none of the special features are listed. I am particularly interested if the 4k/blu-ray have extra features that the DVD's do not. Thanks for your quick reply. Cathy

No, there is no standard DVD in this one or the newest release with different artwork.

The special features are on the Blu-ray disc itself.
Behind the scenes, gaffes/goof real, etc.
I believe it is the same special features released.

Is this the Director's Cut or Theaterical Cut?

It has BOTH on the 4K disc! So, kudos to Sony for that!

Will this item ever be available to order? I see you all still have thor 1 and 2 on steel book

Your best bet now, Dan, is to find one on Ebay or similar. It has been 5 years now, so it is most likely out of print.

Does this have a sip cover?

It did when it first came out on 4K. I don't think it can be found in the brick-and-mortar stores with one now in 2022, 5 years later.
You may have to go to ebay for one.

Does the movie come with the slipcover in 2022?

Not to my knowledge Ajay. You might have to find one on Ebay. I have seen less and less slipcovers for older movies.

The Terminator returns in this explosive action-adventure spectacle. Now he's one of the good guys, sent back in time to protect John Connor, the boy destined to lead the freedom fighters of the future. Sarah Connor, John's mother, a quintessential survivor has been institutionalized for her warning of the nuclear holocaust she knows is inevitable. Together, the threesome must find a way to stop the ultimate enemy-the T-1000, the most lethal Terminator ever created.

Does this come with a slipcover

Most of these did when they were first made. Now, I am not sure if you would get one with this purchase.
